Re: Mortal Kombat Mafia [Day 0]
good opening question because it could lead to information that might favour our poll choices today. seemed obvious.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 1:35 am Kyle is town because "let's go" is the thing he said when his confidence surged post-mafioso lynch as a civilian.
Sloonei is town because he's already trying to facilitate true to form.
Quin is mafia because he called Kyle's question "good" without clarifying why he cared about the question or why it moved him.

This is what happened in The Office 2 years back.Kylemii wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 2:23 am I'd agree that the visit realm options would probably effect the roles from their associated realms.
I think Jay's explanation makes sense. Especially if there's historical precedence for it. When I think of Epi's hosting philosophy I think of the word "balance", and secret reveals are less likely to effect the balance of the game then like.... bonus votes or extra protections or whatever else. Plus with this many secrets it makes sense that there might be a mechanic to reveal them over the course of the game.

this is the sort of thing i initially thought the polls could lead to - advantages to certain roles. i feel like that's less likely now.Kylemii wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 2:32 am there was this pokemon mafia game on hedville a million years ago where the day 0 poll was to decide which city gym to go to first, the different gym choices all corresponded to certain advantages that would be given to certain roles, but it ended up being super obvious which players were which role because of which option they chose, and i think like 3 difference civilians ended up getting civ credit out of it because they fought super hard for their corresponding gym choice.
that's exactly the kind of thing i can't see Epi doing

I don't think so. If I were to look for reasons to read you it might be easier to look at what you say instead of how you say it. You met your standards as a facilitator in that game as well as you have in any town game here. I don't see that being something that would shift depending on your alignment.Sloonei wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 5:08 pmThat we were bad together is exactly why I'm asking you about the hydra experience. I've given three reads. Kyle, Sloonei, and Elohcin. All of which have clear origins if you don't need me to spell everything out to the letter.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 9:06 pm I'll put my continued concerns about Quin into words:
He has made a lot of posts in quick succession. Typically this is something I would like. It's great to facilitate content and to generate a real life bonafide Mafia game thread. However, in Quin's posts I see a lot of reads thrown into a heap with few or no legible origins -- they seem to merely exist for the sake of existence. This contrasts the facilitation provided by other early contributors (Sloonei, speedchuck, and MacDougall to name a few) which features reads drawn from visible thread content. Their reads might not be well-informed, understandably on Day 0, but I still know where they came from. Quin's reads? I generally don't know. I'm not sure he does either.
"Gut."
I question the sincerity of this facilitation effort and wonder if it's meant for appearances.
I don't know why you're comparing my reads to others as though that factor alone is indicative of alignment.
It's Day 0 and you're already tunneling.

Our conversation started with him giving me a town read. I then dragged us into a discussion of my recent mafia meta (Quin and I were recently a mafia hydra-pairing together on MU) and, after some initial hesitation, he identified some possible signs to differentiate between my town and scum play. I wanted to get a feel for whether or not these thoughts were something he was factoring into his read of me here (this did not seem to be the case), and instead his reason for town reading me was expressed in three letters: gut. I don't object to Quin gut reading me. But I don't like the sequence of events leading up to the declaration of this gut read and his answers to my questions did not seem to reflect an earnest progression of thoughts.

He wasn't doing that. He was setting a baseline for what he expects from a civilian and deciding I'm bad for not meeting that baseline. It wasn't about the supposed illegitimacy of my hunting.
