Re: [DAY 0] - The Fellowship of the Ring Mafia (LoTR I)

Greetings old Friends (it seems like forever, Timmer and DFaraday...) and greetings to Ambray - I don’t believe that I’ve had the pleasure :bighug: I’m so thrilled that I got the opportunity to play this marvellously themed game!

Greetings, Master Sloonei! It is truly a pleasure for me to again be playing with you - I trust you will stick around a little longer this time so I may gain a lot more from the experience. In answer to your question, I’m not sure. Kyle doesn’t have the benefit of the experience of me here at The Syndicate that many of the rest of you have and granted, my approach to these games could hardly be described as ‘conventional’ so I figure that explains his early treatment of me this game. Yet the vote he placed on me (for the purpose of encouraging me to respond to him) remains despite me having done so. That and something about his tone is not giving me a good vibe.

Mac, on the other hand appears to have mellowed in my opinion. He seems a lot less brusque than I recall from past games and I genuinely appreciate his counsel and will of course, take it under advisement (as would anyone, given his experience in these games).

Re: [DAY 1] - The Fellowship of the Ring Mafia (LoTR I)

Very well. I’m putting an end to this nonsense once and for all. If no one could’ve guessed, THIS game means a great deal to me (perhaps more than any other that I’ve played here at the Syndicate) and I am not going to let those disingenuous amongst you use my reputation and meta against me here. Yes, I AM TOWN! You can take that to the bank or wherever else you damn well want to - I’m not going to blissfully be mislynched by the forces of #*^%ing Mordor! I’d said it before, and this game has proven it to me now - my continued presence in these games has become truly untenable. Accordingly, please don’t expect that I’ll be returning for The Two Towers (as much as that pains me). I’ll have more to say on this matter once this game is ended.

In the meantime, I’m not buying Nutella’s twisted logic for voting me so here... have one of your own!

I voted for you in an attempt to draw out your traditional "i am civ" post or lack there of. If you are purposefully steering yourself away that meta then that's fine. I respect that. Purposefully giving yourself such an obvious tell seems like a needless challenge.

The reason my vote is still on you is because the explanations I've received about you have all come from other players. You haven't answered or even acknowledged any of the questions regarding the change in your meta. Not even as much as a "I don't do that anymore" or "I'm not responding to that" or a "Sloonei is right"
If I had a second vote, it’d be on you Buddy!

I don't think I'm alone in saying that it's a treat to get to play with you, so I hope this sentiment is not permanent. I think we can all find a place where your personal convictions do not interfere with gameplay with more experience.

That said, tell me more about nutella. What parts of her logic seem twisted to you?
You are most kind, Master Sloonei and I wish that what you said were true (about finding a place where my personal convictions don’t interfere with gameplay, etc.) but I think we all know that place doesn’t exist and only ever could after a great deal of disappointment and frustration both on my part and that of the other members of any Town Team I ended up on between now and this side of eternity.

In this post, she accuses you (Master Sloonei) of sounding fake for doing precisely what you should do to drive the game forward and usually do (from my observation of your playstyle) - asking search questions. My thought process was
-> He hasn't stated that he's a civ! He's avoiding the topic, and knowing Glorfindel, that means he's bad!
-> He's asked directly, and responds "Are you serious?" He's soooo obviously bad
-> Oh, apparently he said previously that he would avoid the question either way in future games so as to not make his alignment unfairly obvious
-> Still, he could be taking advantage of that (i.e. drew a mafia card and is lucky he had this excuse ready) and his blatant refusal to answer the question gives me a bad feeling
-> Still again, he could be a civ legitimately standing behind his plan not to answer (after all, he is nothing if not a man of his word.)

And cycling back and forth between those last two steps. Still, I think it would have been prudent of him to point us in the direction of his previous avowal, since it was in a different game and only you made the connection, to ensure that we understood his motive for not answering the question, rather than just saying "are you serious?"
Again, the summation of all that Nutella has put in this post is WIFOM and semantics - the kind that I suspect a Mafia would employ to blow smoke around what they might consider an easy mis-lynch. I mightn’t feel so strongly at this point had I limited interaction with her since I’ve been on this site but she’s been round long enough to know the score.

What's wrong with posting for the sake of posting/for the sake of stimulating discussion? That's literally what D1 is all about. Gotta stir the pot. Gotta make takes while they're hot. And I recognize that Sloonei is doing what he usually does but I felt like he was doing it a little too much/asking questions that sounded forced or had already been more or less answered.
I’m confused by what it is you are asking here, my friend. Posting to stimulate discussion is indeed a worthy goal. ‘Stirring the pot’ is an entirely valid and necessary strategy in rooting out our Mafia foes. Yet this is the very basis upon which you suspect Master Sloonei - akin to criticising a detective for asking a felon too many questions? You believe his questions were forced? Can you provide an example? And still, you’ve avoided the point that I made in respect to your original post. Your Post #36 made specific reference to an ‘ingame partnership’ between Sloonei and Ambray. In the same post, you state that the probability is ‘pretty low’ but based on ‘the behaviour’ you considered your ‘bold accusation’ sufficient grounds to stimulate discussion.

Now let’s just make a comparison here. Master Sloonei is asking open, probing questions of other players. You are throwing tinfoil around with gay abandon. Who do you think comes off looking worse in that comparison?

Not a defense of Kyle's alignment. A defense of the thought process of one post he made. Coincidence that I agreed with him on you later.
I agree with Kyle’s original proposition here as well, my friend but your response didn’t stop there, did it? Your response to Mac was “why do you think Kyle is bad?” You only then used the reference to his ‘strategic thought’ to justify your defence. Your sheeping his vote on me, a coincidence? By my calculation, your vote on me was placed almost an hour after Kyle’s. In my book, that suggests a certain degree of premeditation and forethought.

Again, my actual thought process. Completely organic. And I always waffle. Not intentionally "blowing smoke," just trying to figure out where I stood. I don't want to mislynch you, and after gaining perspective from what Sloonei pointed out I reconsidered my stance because the evidence up until then caused me to believe you were most likely bad. So for you it's just totally normal and expected for Sloonei to quash lines of questioning on day one? To create an environment where a questioned player doesn't need to explain themselves because it's already being done for them?
Are you questioning me for providing an explanation of Glorfindel's behavior?
The fact that you explained his behavior once was fine, but even after that, you were giving Glorfindel opportunities to not have to explain himself, or his attempted change in meta. Why not let him speak for himself? Why was it important for you to be the one to do it?
I stood up for Glorfindel because I don't like to see people manipulating his meta to get an easy read on him. I feel like it's teetering on the edge of what is or isn't in the spirit of the game. He's stated that he doesn't want this to be something that follows him around in every game, and I think his behavior in this thread indicates his discomfort with it. I wanted us to move away from that particular line of inquiry. I don't wish to speak for him, but I also don't want to see him pursued in a way that I think is unfair or uncomfortable for him.
I don’t know what role you’ve drawn this game Master Sloonei but it there would be no better fit for you personally than Frodo Baggins - such a noble soul!

got any reads other than the ones you've already expressed? I don't think nutella is a good lynch today.
I appreciate and respect your opinion on the Nutella lynching but for my personal satisfaction, I’ll await her response to my last post to her. I’m far from convinced on the basis of her earlier response and want to see a better defense than what I got. As for everyone else, I don’t get Jack. This game SHOULD be EPIC! Why anyone would artificially restrict themselves to posting in emoticons under these circumstances is nothing short of a travesty.

Epi is proving to be something of a problem - in my view he seems uncommonly disengaged and seems to be contributing little other than stating that (to which, anyone else) would see as the bleeding obvious.

Ambray is (in my view) spectacularly unimpressive. A veritable handful of posts and a lame-arse vote on me. I think she really needs to step it up but I’m reluctant to make assumptions about her alignment based on her scant contribution at this stage.

LC seems fairly normal LC to me - a pretty Null read there.

DrWilgey - Need to see more and review.

Kyle - I honestly don’t know what it is about Kyle. I’m sure he’s a lovely guy and very smart but I have this overwhelming vibe that he’s hiding something. I don’t know why I find it so hard to trust him - it’s actually starting to maker me feel kinda bad...

Out of curiosity, my friend - what content of Nutella’s more recent posts (specifically) has led you to conclude that she is operating from a ‘civ mindset’? I have an open mind - please help me to see things from your perspective.

I can’t honestly ever recall a game on this site where I have found INH’s posts to be so incisive, so entertaining.

Why would I do that?
Because (in my view) if he’s the Mafia-leaningist player we have playing here, we’re in a LOT of trouble.

Above all the candidates in that mix he is without doubt (in my opinion) the most transparently Townie. He’s an asset to us - if you’re one of us?

Re: [DAY 2] - The Fellowship of the Ring Mafia (LoTR I)

My apologies for my recent absence, my friends! I should be good after this Day phase however. I was expecting like a dozen pages and have come back to about three. At this point, I think my vote will be going on either Nutella or Jack - even though we’re no longer posting in emoticons, the content is still far too light on for someone who is Town to be posting - I think it looks like he’s hiding something...

I feel it would be irresponsible of me to leave legacy reads in my position. I've only followed along loosely since the end of Day 1 and don't know what went down at all last night. INH and Glorfindel are town reads, but that's all I can state with any confidence.

please show me where I called Ambray suspicious? I didn't like her Glorf vote, but I accepted her reasoning. Meanwhile, you used it as an excuse to prop her up for an easy lynch, despite also targeting Glorf yourself.

@ Glorfindel, do you still have a negative read on Kyle? What do you think of my case against him?
Greetings, @INH. Yes, I’d describe my suspicion of Kyle to to be in the ‘mild’ category still. Your case against him was comprehensive without (in my opinion) being conclusive. I haven’t played much with Kyle to get to know his playstyle and (while he seems a straight up kinda guy) I just get bad vibes.

Other than Kyle, I’m a bit concerned about Chuckles. I was convinced that Master Sloonei was a good guy but I didn’t care for how he left - refusing to give any legacy reads for us to ponder. I’m having trouble comprehending how Town-Sloonei could do that? I’d have thought he’d WANT to give us the benefit of his not inconsiderable skill and knowledge?

As for Nutella not being Mafia, don’t even get me started...

juliets wrote: Sun Feb 11, 2018 2:46 pm Where is everyone? I need some people to talk to about what's going on in this game. I jus read speedchuck and most of Sloonei (there were a few of sloonei's posts that made my eyes glaze over so I'll have to revisit them later) and I didn't see anything I would consider a mafia tell in either. So, at this point, I have to consider the Mac kill more of a set-up. What do the rest of you think? I will read Glorfindel and Long Con next because they voted for speed and hopefully I can see where my thinking might be wrong.
Less than four hours to go before EoD and only one vote cast?

And yeah, I’m voting Chuckles again - I don’t trust the guy as far as I could throw him.

If you hadn't gotten a power role, I'd have made you the real Glorfindel.

Thanks so much for playing Glorfindel. It's been a pleasure to host for you, play you, get lynched by you, and make your acquaintance. I remember your first couple games playing here, and I really admire your resilience to come back and give mafia another go. I hope this isn't the end of our interactions together!
You’re a lovely fellow, Marmot. I wish you every happiness and success in everything you do. It may not be the end of our interactions - as it turns out, I’ve never hosted a game and would love to give it a try one day, sooo... Take care, my friend :hugs:
