Heresy! No, hey, this has started for real now? Accuations and stuff? I thought it was all role-picking in order, and I figured I'd get notified or something when it's my turn. Do I pick a role I want? Full disclosure: I haven't read anything and am posting blind right now.

DDL no, there's nothing to suspect about my posts, it's all just real. I refrained from admitting that I didn't know whether I was Civ or bad, because that's just to La Dee Da, but I could have said it honestly in my earlier post. I am not bad.

The Oxford Comma is essential to use, and it has been proven in a court of law for a substantial amount of money.gwilikers6 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 3:28 pm I think you’re misinterpreting that and JOH is simply not a proponent of the Oxford comma. Relating to mafia, I don’t think it tells us anything.
I was thinking the same thing. People like me, LOL. People like TonyStarkPrime, Dr. White, Kenway, Kites, Iron_Dwarf, and ColinIsCool.ColinIsCool wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 6:51 pm I don’t really feel like I can trust JJJ right now. That MacDougall line of interrogation seems like a whole lot of latching onto nothing just to make it appear as if there’s a semi-reasonable case. Although if I were mafia in this game I would probably take advantage of the set-up confusion some people are experiencing and just lay low for a little while so I dunno. What do you all think?

Hey, Pegasus sister! I assume we'll never vote for each other, right?nutella wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 9:28 pmI'm not usually a fan of GTH exercises. Recently I associate them with a game where Jay asked everyone to GTH read every player and he turned out to be scum. I'm sometimes okay with providing them depending on how it's asked, but I much prefer rainbows or more backed-up/nuanced readsDr. White wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 9:21 pmNever have. Sounds futile as the only benefit would be cross referencing those reads later when more alignment info is present. Seems much more of a scum ploy as I've previously explained, especially with the amount given.dunya wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 9:15 pmThe Syndicate has something weird here called Gun To Head reads (which I think are easy to fake, so I think the exercise is a waste of time when performed in a group usually). Are you familiar with those? Because MacDougall's defense was that those fast civ/sus reads were GTH reads which is basically a game where you make a fast, uninformed decision on how you feel about players by placing them in one of two categories: town or scum--without analyzing or backing up with reasons.Dr. White wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 9:10 pmThis is a bad reply. I clearly know how to play mafia, and you clearly are twisting what I said. You couldn't have possibly had gotten any solid info on that many people enough to make that many reads at the time you posted that in the thread. Gattling a ton of random reads doesn't really give us much except possible connections back to you for later game. If you were vacationing why choose this as your one contribution to the thread? Once again, seems to be you attempting to set up a presence in the thread with those "reads".MacDougall wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 8:57 pmSo in a game in which one is to determine who received a mafia role one should utilise no intuition whatsoever? This is the only game I have ever played where everyone knows everyone's roles from the get-go. I really think this will be a factor in the Mafia's kill choices. Like, killing info roles and such.
Why? How about getting our doctors thinking about that as well.

Well, explicitly planning the actions of Civs is not something we want to do of course... but I think it would be a great idea for the general populace of protection types to be generally protecting the information types.Kylemii wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 12:16 amhmmmmm well.......Long Con wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 11:52 pmThis is the only game I have ever played where everyone knows everyone's roles from the get-go. there's a few info roles, shaman is the only role that can reveal secrets, wyvern knight too. Either of those roles would probably be a threat to the mafia, assuming they aren't held by the mafia. Thieves, the monk, and the pegasi stand out as well.
However, we also have a jailkeeper, 3 bodyguards, and two doctors, 2 full time power redirectors, 3 part time bus drivers, at least two role blockers, and a jack of all trades that can do 3 of the previously mentioned things, as well as 2 of whatever the technical-mafia term for whatever my role does and all of those things have the ability to double target.
some of those things might not actually be in our control, cus mafiadrafts, but I think overall if everyone's smart with their night targets we can at the very least make it difficult for the mafia to kill who they want to.
Is that reasonable?
One of the best reasons to include a poll. The poll doesn't need to be a lynch poll, but a fun poll with an end time should be in place.

Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Day 1]
TSP is the Shaman: "Forbidden Knowledge - Each night, you may choose a role from role list and reveal any secrets or background powers associated with it. Using this on scum roles too often without using it on enough draft/promotion roles will result in negative consequences."
This would be a very odd baddie role, because why would a scum use this on a scummate?
Kyle is the Sage: "Each night, you may target another player and reverse their action. A nightkill will become a doctor, a guide will become a block, a track will become a reverse track, etc. This action can never result in the death of a townie."
I thought this was an odd baddie role, due to the last sentence, but then I realized that's a necessary balancing factor, because the doctors are all public.

Not.... reeeeally. Recruitment Mafia 4 was played here, and it is similar in that the game starts with only the 4 faction leaders having roles, and the rest of the players get recruited and powered up as the game progresses. As I recall, the Recruitment Mafia series was not unfamiliar with the idea of "playing the player" and guessing who certain players would be likely to recruit.dunya wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 11:59 am The "who would your mates be?" is not common, but since this is the first drafting type game we've played on here, I don't know how normal this exercise is and whether it's scum/town beneficial. If Epi wanted to lynch players that come up the most, hen his own name might just be near the top of that lynch list.

that's the point. It's extremely town-aligned and anti-scum. Something scum would want to have in their possession rather than townies having it.

It suits his early play in both MK and Fiddler (civilian and mafia respectively), so we'll see how it develops. He's a suspect so long as there is no reason to give him civilian credit.
Weak from Marmot. "Looks like a deflect". Not really. And Mac hadn't avoided the suspicions up to that point. It looks more like trying to get some other talk going.
Actually, in contrast to Mac "deflecting", this looks more like Marmot trying to hold the conversation on Mac... like, "let's keep drilling him for everything he does".
I don't think it needs to be so strictly connected. I read it as a conversational "although"... and upon reread, it does make sense even with stricter grammar. "I don't think I can trust this high poster (JJJ)... although if I were Mafia, I might lay low". You see? If so, why couldn't you see originally? In fact, you acted as though you analyzed it, and saw there was no possible connection, and called him out on it in an "I'm suspicious of this" way.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 6:58 pmWhat does this "although..." qualifier have to do with your prior assertion about distrusting me?ColinIsCool wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 6:51 pm I don’t really feel like I can trust JJJ right now. Although if I were mafia in this game I would probably take advantage of the set-up confusion some people are experiencing and just lay low for a little while so I dunno. What do you all think?

Oh, the first post is in the order of the draft, I see. So nutella drafted TSP. Gotcha.dunya wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 1:23 pmI didn't think it was fake either, until the post above. That smells of rotten, old cheese.
and then asking me if I drafted Tony again as though he doesn't know, as though he hasn't looked at the OP (which he quoted today and asked us if we'd all seen it). I don't know, something feels really wrong about those 2 posts of his and make me feel uneasy.

I see the civvie wheels turning in that post. Sincerity abounds in the tone and I feel that his opinions are naturally derived.
I think you're a civilian, and Colin's post looks like TMI.
"No, it's about his read stemming from things that don't exist or are otherwise qualified with nothing waffles."
"you acted as though you analyzed it, and saw there was no possible connection, and called him out on it"
Don't try to change history now.

Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Day 1]
It's an all right back-off I guess. There's no baddie rule that says you have to tunnel hard on a Civ until they're dead; backing off can look very good, and baddie Marmot might have considered that.Marmot wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 1:42 pmWhat do you think of the manner of Mac doing this. What use is it to state that someone is the mafia don as a topic of discussion?Long Con wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 12:56 pmWeak from Marmot.
My thinking was this: BaddieMac is taking heat, and so injected a bit of WIFOM into the thread with no pretense regarding sprityo. CivvieMac... may have done the same thing, but I don't see an obvious reason for the manner of doing so.
But I backed off when Mac explained himself. What do you think about that?

Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Day 1]
It confused me, then, that you referenced something Colin said that was separate from the quote I brought to you.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 1:50 pmThe clarification you provided is what I called a nothing waffle -- that JJJ is scummy because X, but gee he sure is posting a lot. The thing that doesn't exist was my purported claim of having said nobody would draft me because I'm too obvious (Colin has already acknowledged the error).
I was talking about "although" having not-too-difficult-to-get real meaning, contrasted to your claim that it didn't follow the previous point in any way. Then you bring up "stemming from things that don't exist", which I interpreted as talking about the point I brought up. As in, the "although" stemmed from nowhere.
I don't know about "nothing waffles". As I said when I first read Colin's post, I was having the same thoughts about where the baddies might be in the thread. Your "but gee" thing above really doesn't reflact his post well at all... you seem to be trying to make it look waffly in a dumb way. I don't trust that kind of propaganda, because it wasn't dumb, and it wasn't "but gee he posts a lot".
His point against you: " That MacDougall line of interrogation seems like a whole lot of latching onto nothing just to make it appear as if there’s a semi-reasonable case." That's a reasonable point, and one that I have stated some affinity for when I commented about the high pressure on Mac. This is a valid reason to suspect you.
Colin's other thought: baddies might lay low at this point. Also a good thought, and one I agree with. I don't read it as a counterpoint to diminish the suspicion of you (aka "waffley"), I read it as two separate thoughts that were connected by virtue of you being NOT a low poster.

Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Day 1]
A slump? That would be nice, that sounds finite. From my perspective, Mafia play on this site has gotten generally better (thanks in no small part to you, you obsessive jerk), and my own Mafia play has not improved. I don't feel like I can compete as effectively in today's Syndicate, because I just don't have the time or focus to do what you do. And THAT'S assuming that, with time and focus, I could be nearly as effective... something I am almost afraid to put to the test.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 1:51 pmYou disparaged your own play in Fiddler too. You may have had a few early mafia deaths in quick succession over the last few games, but they aren't indicative of your overall abilities as a player. We all have slumps. Nobody is buying that you suck.Long Con wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 1:41 pmIf I were an ideal player, I'd win more.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 1:27 pm Either LC isn't paying attention, which isn't ideal, or he is pretending not to pay attention, which isn't ideal. So you'd all better start buying that I suck. No more talk about some legendary Long Con skills that I displayed while we were all playing like Mafia preschoolers. That's not reality, and it's just frustratingly harmful to my game to be held to those standards. Consider me average, and then I can at least try to live up to your expectations.

Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Day 1]
Really only 4 hours between those two posts? Feels like it was forever. Like it was the next day or something. Huh. At that point, I didn't understand what it even meant; I had just read Jack's pregame post that said "Thread opened for role begging." Role begging? What is that even? I didn't know.Kylemii wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 2:20 pmI haven't dropped the line of thinking, I just haven't talked about it again since then. I feel like I suspect you early in a lot of games so I want to make sure I'm being realistic. I understand not paying attention in the beginning of stuff and not wanting to read every single day 0 post. I've seen that from you before, in Mortal Kombat where you were a civ. The fact that you're co-hosting a game with your wife rn is also obviously a factor in that.Long Con wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 12:56 pmI think Kyle dropped this line of thinking without a word after JJJ's post here. Why?JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 6:32 pmIt tells me nothing. I'd expect members of both factions to not be sure what's going on in the draft.Kylemii wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 6:30 pmwhat do you make specifically of his confusion on how drafting worksJaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 6:25 pmPretty much nothing. It suits his early play in both MK and Fiddler (civilian and mafia respectively), so we'll see how it develops. He's a suspect so long as there is no reason to give him civilian credit.
The thing that stuck out to me was this:First post, you come in asking a few reasonable questions for someone who hasn't read anything other than maybe the first couple posts of the thread. At this point you seem to understand that getting a role requires begging and someone else deciding for you. Then you leave for 4 hours.
I didn't know less about the draft mechanics, I knew the same amount: nothing. I kind of had it in my mind that when my turn comes around, I would catch up and be more informed about how it worked and then do the right thing... instead, I didn't do that, because I felt like maybe there was some time pressure involved, and I wanted to get my part done so the game couold proceed.4 hours later in your second post you seems to know less about the draft mechanics than you did at the start. You ask if you get to pick your own role, and imply thinking the role selection goes in a turn order, all of which contradicts what you understood in your first post. If the questions posed in the first post were real questions I don't know why you wouldn't have spent a little time looking for the answers yourself since they'd all be on the front page.Long Con wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2018 12:44 amHeresy! No, hey, this has started for real now? Accuations and stuff? I thought it was all role-picking in order, and I figured I'd get notified or something when it's my turn. Do I pick a role I want? Full disclosure: I haven't read anything and am posting blind right now.
It seems fake to me. It seems like posturing.
You say you don't know why I wouldn't have spent a little time looking for answers myself... but you do know why, you already partially said why. I'm hosting a game, I'm in another game, and I was following along with Mortal Kombat as well during those last few interesting days. Fire Emblem starting was like "oh damn, now I'm involved in another one? What am I doing??"
I promise you that there was nothing fake about any of it. Welcome to LC. Lower your expectations.

I was just about to post something along these lines. That would be beeeeautiful! Something a player could call on as an auto-post in the thread... OR a tally that hangs above the thread like a poll!
