My favorite professor from college kept ignoring me when I asked him if I could use him as a reference on my grad school applications. I took four classes with him in my time there. I did great in all of them and he seemed to enjoy having me as a student. I was distraught and also short one reference with one of my deadlines coming up in less than a month. In desperation I decided to shoot him one last email. Just as I was about to click "send" I remembered a thing he said once about emails intended for him regularly ending up in the wrong place because the school's faculty page had the wrong address listed for him. Sure enough, when I pulled up his personal directory page instead, an entirely different email address was listed there.

My roommate decided that 4 AM is an appropriate time to do laundry. The washing machine is loud and on the opposite side of my bedroom wall. I was sleeping soundly.

He just moved in with me a month ago because he couldn’t get along with his previous roommate. I wonder why. He moves out again when the semester ends in a week and a half. I am counting down the days.

Hey, my roommate makes smoothies too! His juicer contraption takes up an entire counter all to itself, and whenever he uses it he cleans it immediately and manages to soak the entire kitchen floor. Daily.

He's made me a more productive student though. Since he moved in I've been spending entire days with my nose buried in books at the library just to get out of the house. Like this afternoon. I've nearly finished one of my final papers a week early.

He also closes the bathroom doors even when no one's in there. He'll occasionally also leave the lights on because it's good to give the illusion that the bathroom is constantly in use, for some reason. Make sure you discuss the bathroom's open door policy.

All good questions, but cancelling the spotlessly clean meeting with the aeronautical engineer. After I goofed around and asked him who invented the airplane like DDL said (and he didn't answer correctly ftr), he asked me if I'm a skirts or jeans girl? Like wtf kind of question is that? I guess my assumption that he's a clean freak because he hides evidence of all the amazingly beautiful women he's murdered is correct. Cancelling that meeting. I still have one with a 3D animator who describes himself as a shy hermit and another with an accountant who says he's never home cos he's always training after work (table tennis and squash, he rotates). The latter sounds ideal, the former just sounds like he'll always be home.

Jeez, that dude scum slipped IRL.

The good news: the deck is 90% complete.

The bad news: it’s been 90% complete for three weeks.

Better than being 30% complete for 9 weeks.

I just spent the evening going over financial aid options for completing my payment of the rest of my time at grad school. I had not looked at the total bill for next semester yet. It is... significantly higher than I anticipated. I'm questioning whether it's worth it, but I'm also about 80% done with the actual work involved in completing the degree. I'll be making student loan payments for a long time.

Thanks. Now that 24 hours have passed I'm less freaked out by the number and my loan is submitted. Once I have my degree I'll have access to all the professional opportunities that I'd been restricted from before, and that makes the monthly installments I have to pay seem less daunting.

i haven't actually been to any of the big wing places since i moved out here. i need to immerse myself.

I will most likely hit up Duff's at some point. They're everywhere. I'm failing as a Buffalo resident so far.

In other news, I relaxed even more when I realized that my payments on this latest loan aren't going to be much bigger than the car loan that I finished paying off a couple years ago. If I could afford that along with my other bills while working a hair above minimum wage, I don't need to feel panicked about this thing.

of course i'll be paying this one off at least twice as long as the car loan, but that's whatever. and i'll also need a new car eventually. maybe they'll all be self-driving by then. i've got that to look forward to.
