Re: Dr. Who Mafia! - Day 1

Sorry guys, I haven't just forgotten about this.

I fell asleep reading through the posts last night and ended up missing the first lynch.

Currently on page nine... ten more to go! I'll weigh in once I get through all that.

Re: Dr. Who Mafia! - Day 2

Hi, sorry for missing the first day and night, I actually just finished reading it through all and it probably took a few hours in total. :(

The hosts are great, and I'm really sorry I didn't start contributing sooner. The stories and nicknames they come up with are very creative!

Anyway, I don't really have much to say right now that others haven't said earlier. Right now MP and Enri and zeek all seem fairly innocent to me, although zeek's insistence on going to a specific planet did seem a bit strange. At least if the planet ends up killing all civs or something we can probably assume he was evil.

New to the game: is it possible that one of the baddies has the power to silence someone for a day/night? MP has been pretty quiet lately.

One thing I noticed on Enrique was that he and Dana seemed to be backing each other up a lot early on (Day 0?).

I know they know each other pretty well outside of mafia, so I just attributed it to that, but it might still be worth mentioning/looking into.

Otherwise Dana doesn't seem to have done anything very mafia-like, as far as I can tell.

You think zeek was overly confrontational? No, I'm actually taking Dana's side here. MP came out of nowhere guns blazing based on very little. Maybe he's onto something; it is weird that zeek would omit the Doctor's regeneration like that, but is it really to the baddies' benefit? He could've easily just not thought of that. It's still weird that MP would make such a huge spectacle out of it.

To be honest I don't think a baddie would've lashed out like that without knowing that he'd be put in the spotlight. I don't see MP as bad, just chill, dude :p

I do think it WOULD have been a weird thing to slip on, if it were a slip. It WAS suspicious when there wasn't the information that he could have known about "supatown". Now that the information has been brought here to the thread, I don't think there's anything too weird going on. It seems like he had accepted the explanation, and then when questioned, was explaining why he thought it was suspicious before. That doesn't mean he still thought it was suspicious at the time he said that.

Re: Dr. Who Mafia! - Day 2

FWIW, I believe Dom's claim regarding his night vote.

Y'all pressuring him too much for what could likely have been just a mistake. And even if it wasn't, he was in a position where it'd be difficult to slip up, it seems.

About zeek--earlier I said I thought he was innocent, and I'll stand by that, but just say that I'm gonna continue to remain skeptical of him until it's obvious why he was pushing so hard for that one specific planet. Saying that it will all be explained by night 2 sounds like it could just be a way to stall and remain free of accusations for at least one more day. If he really was a baddie, staying alive until the night would be the ideal goal.

I know, but sometimes people make dumb and/or risky moves (see Day 0 MP). You could have been trying to get a gauge on who would be easier or harder to recruit to your cause, whether there is a lot of proof for it or not. Maybe it's that WIFOM thing. It might be unlikely, but it's still possible. Just saying, I'll see how the planet situation plays out and rethink it. Again, I'm still assuming you're innocent, but I'm holding that opinion with a bit of skepticism.

Not to mention, The Master tends to be one of the "baddest" villains on the show, at least in my eyes.

Idk.

The things he is famous for are really only (1) leading the Battle at Canary Wharf, and (2) becoming the first and only Dalek-human hybrid, actually feeling emotion, and then being killed by his own men in what he considered mutiny. Also, the Doctor actually liked him after the transformation.

I feel like it's more likely that his power will have to do with the second option, especially considering the picture the hosts used was of him after the transformation.

Also worth noting that he's the black Dalek in one of my favorite Doctor Who clips. Someone already linked it before the game began, but here it is again.

So I suppose it could be something to do with that interaction, but again, leaning more towards the "feeling emotion and being betrayed" thing.

Okay, I really need to rewatch this show. I went through mostly all of it but I can barely remember any of the characters or storylines. I didn't even realize that all these daleks were specific ones with names and stories and everything.
Yeah, I didn't really pick up on much of it the first time either, but after I finished the show I re-watched them all, this time with my siblings, and was able to put some things together.

As for Made, it does seem like he's less involved than I would expect, but from a position where I've never played with him before I don't really want to make any official comments on him as far as play styles go.

Re: Dr. Who Mafia! - NIght 2

Not caught up yet, but I thought I'd be helpful and provide some summaries of the planets. Information taken straight from the wiki and a bit from my own head.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Colm:

Image
Clom wrote:Clom, also spelt Klom, was the twin planet (or sister planet) of Raxacoricofallapatorius.
Raxacoricofallapatorius is the home of those fat green farting aliens that everyone hates.

Clom was the home of that weird fat green alien from the episode where that one girl turns into a tile or whatever.

Also notworthy: It was one of the planets stolen by the Daleks (taken by the Daleks?? might tie into "if taken" in Dalek Sec's secrets) to be taken to the Medusa Cascade. They wanted to explode it (and the other planets) but were stopped by the Doctor.

http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Clom

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Darp:

Image
Darp wrote:Tryst used a CET to collect samples on his expedition to catalogue flora and fauna from many planets in the galaxy (including Zil, Vij, Darp, Lvan, Bros, Gidi, Ranx, and Eden)
Not much I can find on this, it doesn't even have a wiki page. Apparently some human xenozoologist visited it to take samples of its plant life. This guy went on to accuse Doctor 4 of smuggling, but was exposed and arrested.

http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Continuous ... Transmuter

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grolon:

Image
Grolon wrote:Grolon was a planet whose "baleful plains" were visited by Captain Cook.
That's all it says. Sounds innocent enough. ;)

Worth noting though: "Captain Cook was an intergalactic explorer who travelled with Mags, a werewolf." "Eventually, despite sending others to their deaths in the ring, Cook and Mags ended up as an act [in a circus] along with the Doctor, where Cook turned Mags into a werewolf and set her on the Doctor. He was killed by Mags but returned to life by the Gods of Ragnarok as their pawn to stop an important medallion getting into the Doctor's hands." "He never showed any remorse or guilt, claiming to follow the rules of the "survival of the fittest". He enjoyed tea-time and drinking tea. "

http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Grolon

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Karn:

Image
Karn wrote:Karn was once a colony planet of Gallifrey. It was later the home of the powerful Sisterhood of Karn and bolt-hole of the Time Lord criminal Morbius.
I haven't watched the original eposodes of the Sisterhood of Karn, but from what I understand from the WIki, they are an all-female group and were in posession of the Elixir of Life which would be used to extend their lives and could "be used to heal serious injuries, or even (at least in some circumstances) to bring the dead back to life. Time Lords occasionally used it when undergoing a difficult regeneration."

It is also, I believe, the place where Doctor 8 made his transformation into the War Doctor.

It was also a sanctuary for a "malevolent" Time Lord, Morbius, but I know absolutely nothing about that story, and it sounds somewhat complex, so if anyone wants to explain that, go ahead. It's mentioned on the wiki:

http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Karn

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perbea/Periboea(?):

Image

Can't find any planets named "Perbea," this is the closest I could find:
Periboea wrote:Periboea was a planet visited by Captain Cook, where he met someone who walked around when he was already dead.
It is mentioned in the same episode as Grolon. Pictured is Cook's warewolf, Mags, although I'm not sure if she was actually with him on Periboea.

http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Periboea

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commentary:

I've bolded parts that might be of interest.
It will be a miracle if I got all that formatting right and I didn't miss any crucial details. Again, anyone with more info feel free to add on, I don't want to be accused of redacting anything. :P

All of the planets are really pretty vague, with the exception maybe of Kolm. I'm tempted to suggest going there--maybe that Elixr can save a dead person or something--but it's possible that the hosts would expect us to choose the most recognizable planet and maybe make it bad or disappointing.

Idk, I think right now I'm leaning towards Periboea (assuming that's what the hosts meant by Perbia). Hopefully that dead man walking is a good thing and not a bad thing. If both Kolm and Periboea offer resurrection, I'd rather deal with some explorer/warewolf duo than with an evil Time Lord. Gonna leave my vote there unless someone can come up with a better reason to go somewhere else.

That would be "obnoxious", not suspicious. Not the same thing.

And Dana, you know when you said it stood out to you that no one defended Juliets? That there was no baddie save? THIS was what you were talking about. That kinda felt like a baddie save to me. A few baddies got in there and manipulated resentment towards Epi over Juliets & his attitude into a lynch.

Welcome Back Juliets & TH :)

Not sure about the poll options, and don't have time to do my due diligence this minute.
I'm sorry, just finished catching up. Looking at the events just before the lynch, lots of things happened since I first personally accused Epi of being suspicious. That being said, I will stand by my vote and refer to my original post on the subject of Epi as my reasoning. My vote and explanation tonight were both very rushed, and I wish I had had the time to read up on it beforehand. Maybe I would have voted for someone else, but that being said, even if I had voted differently, Epi would have still had the majority tonight.

As for the obnoxious vs. suspicious: I'm not really used to that playstyle yet, and to me, when I first looked over Epi's posts, it just seemed strange that an innocent player would act so hostile without any proof to back himself up.

On that note, I really shouldn't be up at a quarter to four in the morning. :offtobed:

If both Kolm and Periboea offer resurrection, I'd rather deal with some explorer/warewolf duo than with an evil Time Lord. Gonna leave my vote there unless someone can come up with a better reason to go somewhere else.
I'm also going to vote this option. I don't like the sound of helping the evil time lord at Karn (you say Kolm here but I see mentions of the time lords in your description of Karn), but possible resurrection sounds like good idea. Also this option has the hostesses name in it :)
Oh yeah, you're right--Karn has the evil timelord man, not Kolm. Misstyped, thanks for catching that.

One benefit of getting a new school-issued laptop: The ability to play mafia from math class without people getting angry at you for using a computer during math class!

Yeah, would you care to elaborate on that, MP?

There are two baddie teams, so surviving a night kill doesn't put anyone in the clear.

What does MP saying he had a feeling he would be targeted prove?
In my eyes that actually makes him a bit more suspicious.

Would like to see him give an explanation of that sentence.

Fair enough. Still seems a bit fishy to me that you just had this magical intuition that turned out to be correct. To be honest, I wouldn't have expected you to have been on the hit list last night, but I suppose you've been playing a lot longer than I have and can probably pick up on those things easier than I can.

As for the people who are targeting you, it's possible they're Cybermen looking for quick revenge, but it's also just as likely that most of them are just suspicious civs. There's no guarantee that you aren't part of the other baddie team.

Re: Dr. Who Mafia! - Day 3

Hey, noticed my name casually come up a few pages back. Looks like conversation has drifted away from me, but if anyone still has any questions for me, let me know and I'll try to address them next time I come online.

Regarding Dom: I find it interesting that it seems like he's managed to piss off a handful of people for different reasons. Is this his usual playstyle: dominating and accusatory? I voted Epig because of similar reasons, and it ended up badly, so I'd like to get the input of people who know him better before I make up my mind for this vote. I'm not entirely convinced by either Made's or Dom's arguments at this point, but Dom does seem more hostile. Don't know if that makes him more civvy or more baddy. Pretty sure Made has been pretty clear about his playstyle, but again, I'd like clarification on Dom.

Will probably look into some of the quieter players tomorrow too, as it seems a lot of you are doing. Admittedly, I don't think I have a lot to go off of for this vote. I'll see where discussion goes tomorrow.

Re: Dr. Who Mafia! - Day 3

So, is the only argument against Made the fact that he's playing a different game?

I feel like both Dom and Made are making very bad arguments, I said something similar earlier, and I'll say it again: I'm not convinced at all by either of them.

Regarding Snow Dog: Something he said earlier today pinged me, and his recent actions just throw me off even more. I think I'll drop my vote there since it's almost closing time. I'll go back and see if I can find exactly what it was, but I was in a rush when I first read it so I couldn't make a post.

Also:

Made: In fifty words or less, please tell me why I shouldn't vote for you.

Dom: In fifty words or less, please tell me why I should vote for Made.

Your guys' arguments are really long, and to me they just seem mostly pointless. I would appreciate a brief and direct explanation from both of you if you guys can do it nicely.

Also: FWIW, with 2 minutes left, I'm pretty convinced that both Hedge and Dana are innocent. Nobody has really heavily defended either of them, and they are both coming across as genuine to me. For a long time Hedge allegedly couldn't even defend herself.

Right now, I'm mostly unsure about Made. I feel like he wouldn't have all those votes if he wasn't really suspicious (or something evil was going on), but right now, I'm just not really seeing the suspicions around him.

So am I reading this wrong, or missing something, or...??

As far as I can tell, SDog and MP hadn't "chatted" at all on this thread at that point in the day.

Re: Dr. Who Mafia! - Day 3

Dom: I really am trying to understand your argument here, I'm not just playing dumb or something. (sorry if I seem dumb)

Admittedly, the first time I read those posts I was just skimming, trying to catch up, but even after reviewing them, the posts you linked just seem to be him admitting to a misunderstanding on his part. Unless there's something else I'm missing, I don't understand how that incriminates him.

He misread something twice? I don't get the big deal.

I also don't understand the significance of missed vs. misread. Aren't they pretty much synonyms in this context?

Thanks for clearing things up.

Ah, yes. The total votes including the +1s wouldn't be made public, would they?

Is that a legitimate plan then? Aim for a tie? Or is that too risky?
