I've been nostalgic off and on for them. :) I'm vicariously happy you loved them. :D
They were MARVELOUS. I think I am going to be obsessed with them.

The most hilarious part is that I don't typically like PB in things, but love these.
Mongoose, IMO they weren't the best example of Buckeyes out there. I felt like they came out kind of dry, not creamy enough. And my blind sister did the chocolate, so it looked fairly messy, lol. But we had fun making them and they came out ok, even if they weren't as fantastic as I was hoping.

Bea, they are actually really simple to make, just kind of time consuming.

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

It's that time of year again!

The holidays are around the corner, and I thought the Holiday Goodie exchange should be revived! I'm going to quote SVS's orginal post to outline what it is. Remember that you would have to be willing to share your address, so if you sign up you need to be ok with giving me your address and I will ONLY be sharing it with the person who gets your name. That way you won't know in advance who you are getting your Holiday Goodie from until you receive it. :)
S~V~S wrote:Years back, on the Lostpedia forums, we had a Christmas Candy Exchange. We drew names from the people that signed up, and sent them some local flavor for the holidays. The year I did it, I got a box full of English chocolate from a young lady in the UK, and I sent her a box of Montana Huckleberry Candies & Cowboy Chocolates. Then, after the holidays, we went back to the thread and showed off our loot :noble:

I am gauging interest in a concept like that for this group. If we have enough interest it might be fun :) And it does not have to be candy; it can be any locally made food (that travels well, of course) that you think your person may like. For instance, i have an awesome loose leaf tea shop near my house, with a helpful proprietress, and I know a few people might like a gift like that. Or perhaps you have an amazing home town hot sauce, or local wildflower honey, or an amazing coffee roaster, or whatever else.

If I get enough interest in this, we can get this going with a target mailing date around the US Thanksgiving, which is November 27 this year.

This would, of course, involve revealing your address and real name to someone else (only the person you are exchanging with; names will be picked via the ever popular Random.org :D) So make sure you are comfortable before signing up for this.

We could kind of agree on a $$ limit so no one feels pressured. I was thinking $10-$20 US (not sure how that translates)
So anyone interested, please PM me directly. Helps keep it a surprise who you might get a gift from. Who's in?

Clearly we are starting this a little later than the first round, as such I'll give you all until end of November to sign up with me. I'll get the names and addresses out to everyone on Dec 1 and then it's up to you to mail it in time for Christmas.

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

To be clear, just because it's a goodie exchange doesn't mean it has to be food, if you aren't comfortable with a food type item that's ok. You can send whatever you feel comfortable with, the idea being it is unique to you or your area. Just stay within the limit. If you want to fix something yourself, you can. If you want to purchase some candies or goodies, you can. If you have another gift idea that stays within the limit, that's cool too. :)

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

Ok, I have the list in hand, I'm going to send it out now to everyone! :)

So the 2016 Holiday exchange is officially closed to new participants. Sorry to any late comers.

Please, please make sure you send the person you get a gift. Nothing stinks more than not getting a gift.

Who has your name is a surprise, part of the fun this year. So don't tell anyone in thread if you've got their name.

As such, when you get your gift make sure to come into the thread, share who sent you something and what you got! That way they will know your gift reached you, and we can all be envious of the goodies you got. ;)

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

Alright, all the names and addresses are out! I am so excited! :omg:

Someone asked if we are imposing a rule that gifts can't be opened until Christmas. What do you all think? Should we all wait until Christmas Day to open them, or open as they come in? My only concern is some of them might be baked goodies or such, and in that case it would be better to receive them as fresh as possible. Thoughts?

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

That thing is really pretty but now I want to know what it's meaning is, lol. So bea or Blooper, clue me in?

Oh and I don't know if Alex told you (MM and Blooper) but the one jelly is the Buccee's brand. Buccee's is this weird Texas thing, it's a gas station on steroids. They sell all kinds of stuff, including specialty foods and candies and so forth. They have very clean, nice restrooms and a TON of gas pumps. And for some reason everyone here LOVES Buccee's. Just as Lorab. It was weird to me, I mean they buy Buccee's T-shirts and walk around in them and stuff, it's bizarre. But, we thought it would be fun to get some specialty stuff from there for a nice Texas/San Antonio touch. So the jellies are purchased there, one is their brand the other is another local brand. :)

And I'm really glad you guys enjoyed my cookie dough balls and mint chocolate cookies. :) I enjoyed making them for you all!

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

Ok so the chamoy and the tajin seasoning I sent so you could make yourself mangonadas. I couldn't just send you a mangonada because they are a blended iced drink. Here is a link to the recipe. If you so desire you can make it boozy with some tequila. ;)

The michelada mix goes in a beer, for authenticity you could try to use it in a Mexican beer, but I don't think it's required. Not sure if you all are beer drinkers, but if not feel free to pass it along to someone who is. I'm not so I've never had one myself but micheladas are huge here in San Antonio. And I love mangonadas, something I had never had before I moved here, but again a big thing here. Nearly every Mexican joint or even shaved ice places will serve mangonadas.

Hope you enjoy it!

So Glorfindel sent me these amazing gifts! We haven't yet used the sauces, I am going to have to look into how to use them. The other item was one of the most thoughtful and unexpected gifts of all this year. Glorf has played in our Syndicate sim, The Tempest. Since he joined we have gotten to become very good friends, so he knows my love of The Next Generation. And I know he has a pretty intense dislike of Picard so the fact that he got me this lovely crystal collectible is doubly meaningful. It was a touching gift from a very thoughtful person. I was floored when I opened it. Thank you so much Glorf!

P.S. I was intrigued by the fact Australians spell chili with two L's!

As for the ornament, for anyone who can't read the inscription under the image of Captain Picard, it says, "Dream big and make it so" - a play on Jean-Luc's iconic line from the Star Trek Next Generation series. I am beyond thrilled that you were happy with it, my friend and I hope that (through our friend, the indomitable Captain Picard) I may be able to inspire you just a little in those times that you may feel down or discouraged and need reminding of all the wonderful things that await you in your life.

Good morning Syndicate! I’m here because I see we haven’t yet organized our yearly gift exchange. It usually gets started earlier but I think with a year like 2020, we could really do with something that helps us feel a little more connected! So if you are interested in participating, please send me a pm with your mailing address and make sure you let me know if you have any allergies as well! We will only be doing sign ups for ten days in order to allow enough time to shop and ship. Happy Holidays Syndicate!
