Re: Death Note Mafia [DAY 0]

Playing catch up now.

I just wanted to point out that this post of boo's elequently states everything I've been thinking re L/Light vote vs Normal vote.

I'm in between the L/Light and Normal options. Currently leaning towards Normal because I think it would give us more information than the L/Light option would. Unless we could figure out a way to determine which people L and Light are picking. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I'll think over my decision for now.
If we went with the L/Light option, We would have more to work with in regards to voting patterns and lynches. Closer votes would yield more information, as Made said. If someone ends up lynched who shouldn't be, that would provide us insight. Likewise, if the lynch proceeds as expected, there is something to be said about that.
I get that we might have more to work with with voting patterns and lynches. But wouldn't it technically take longer to gather said info since only L and Light are the two who know which votes do and don't count? Or am I thinking about this the wrong way?
Initially, only L and Light know who are on their individual lists. But after the lynches, I'm certain it could be deduced who was on one list, no lists, or both lists. Maybe not specifically which players, but it would be possible to say "someone in this group" or something. For example, if Someone in second place is lynched, its likely that that person had boosted voters, or the first place guy had negated voters, or both. It's a bit of homework, but its not impossible.

One more thing before I go: Vanilla lynching affords us one significant disadvantage that i can see, and that is that in the event of lynch fuckery, we will have basically no idea how or why the lynch went tits up. The L/Light mechanic gives us a known quanitity, from which deductions can be made and conclusions drawn.
Except if roles have lynch manipulation included in their secrets, it would be unreasonable to undo all of that with the effects of a D0 poll making those powers worthless. It seems to me you're assuming stuff like the +5 vote would somehow be negated in the L/Light choice, but I don't see why you think that's the case since including lynch manipulation in roles only to allow it to become potentially irrelevant doesn't seem like something MP would do. So the known quantity wouldn't be the case at all, it would just be something else to mess up with understanding lynch results.

I also think you're putting way to much trust in one civvie. If L ends up trusting bad information, going after the wrong people, trusting the wrong people, etc, going with L/Light would let Light run every lynch however they want. The whole advantage civvies have over baddies is numbers, and while that's less true in this game than a typical one, it is still the case assuming the two teams of 7 need each other dead to win. Letting L have the kind of power that option would give them would essentially undo the numerical advantage and instead rely entirely upon their judgement, and especially in the early game, that would likely lead to the death of civvies if there are even small errors in judgement on L's part. Then, unlike a normal game where civvies botching early lynches is normal and can be recovered from, once a few are out of, Light can pretty much run lynches however they like, especially if they can sus out who L is (which, imo, would be easier than normally figuring out a persons role, since they'll have the most accurate idea of both lists) and then spin that to their advantage by not killing L until as many other civvies are dead as possible.

All that to say, I have more trust in the masses than I do letting lynches be decided 50/50 by a baddie and a civvie, with the baddie imo holding the information advantage, especially in the early game.

I think it really needs to come down to people putting themselves in the shoes of the two roles. If I were L and the option won, I wouldn't be pleased with the responsibility of having my judgement become so important to the point of other civvies judgement and choices becoming irrelevant at my whim (not just civvies ofc, but it would be mostly blind luck to get the right people on my list or not). On the other hand, as Light, I would be more than happy to have that kind of early game power, since I can effectively use it to keep myself from getting lynched as long as I can get through D1 and get proper reads on the minds of people, and I really don't care who gets lynched as long as it isn't one of 7 out of 27 roles.

Here's to seeing what happens in the next two pages!

Re: Death Note Mafia [DAY 0]

So, yea - reading the rest of the thread hasn't really changed my mind.

I agree with SVS's point about a less astute player being stuck with the list making. While I disagree that she is a less astute player (actually I imagined myself in that role and that should scare everyone as much as it did me. I'm the most nub player ever.)

I'm having a hard time seeing why the L/Light option provides *more* information in a game ripe with potential manips to begin with. Instinctively it feels like it's adding more potential confusion tbh.

I'm going with straight up lynch.

Also - YAY! for non-switchable votes! :D

It is now Day 1.

You have 48 hours to find and lynch Kira.
ok, at first I thought this said death note, not lynch note... not sure where that leaves the mobile death note theory, but what does everyone think this is?
1) I call Tricey Tricey. :D
2) You know Made, I didn't really put a lot of stock in it when I first read that post. But now that you bring it up, it does kinda look like someone was perhaps given info ("snatched the lynch vote from the player currently holding it.") - It also looks like maybe the lynch note may come back at some point. Definitely something to keep an eye out for though! Good job!

 :haha:

That said, yea. While the start of the day phase has been very talkative, it seems like DH is being DH, Llama is being Llama, Epi is being Epi. I am curious though Epi if beer was involved in your posting tonight. I this read felt like "drunk Epi that I would prolly get into another argument with if I were drinking too even if we actually agreed on things. :p"

I actually find myself agreeing with lots of what Boo has to say. His posts read like the sound voice of reason to me in lots of respects. Though his thought process is usually one I find agreeable so dunno that says much more than boo is being boo too.

Not sure what to make of Zomberella or Ricocheet yet. (I will find cutesy nicknames - give me time. We already have a zombies and a rico...) They are newish to the game and new to me. I don't want to pass judgment on them on D1 before I've had a chance to see them play. Welcome to the games and TS btw. I'm sorry I'm so late at getting the hello to you.

FZ - I know the back and forth was hard to push through for you, but you said the back and forth felt like it was distracting from baddie hunting. Do you think they are both civs or might one of them have a point? Who would you like to look at today? You've got a pretty sharp eye when you are in your civ game, I would love to hear your thoughts.

I did notice in a non-game discussions thread that you use the nickname Rico for a different player (Enrique), but since he's not playing here and most players so far have used the nickname (well, except some I'm making first contact with in this game, like DH, boo, and others who prefer not to nick me, like Epignosis), my friendly advice would be to use it as well. Ricochet is fine, otherwise, too. :)
Yea - Enrique has been Rico Suave to me for like years. Even on other sites when his name is no where near Enrique (like it was Eko on one) he was Rico Suave. Hedville forever man!

I'm currently entertaining Chettey and 'Brella. Feel free to agree or disagree.

I didn't know till someone else mentioned it that you were married. Welcome to the married people who mafia club. My hubby is Big Damn Hero but he really doesn't mafia much. He prefers to shoot things on the x-box more these days.

When you are not trying to defend against people suspecting you, what do you think about what's been said today? Do you find anyone suspicious yet? Why or why not?

How about Ricky? I like it and it's easy and not to closely associated with rico but still sounds like your name and isn't in any way associated with Shit. :)

Also - fwiw - the very reason I asked what your opnions were was because I felt that jumping on you for being "weird" when you are new is an easy out in the chest pumping and I like to hear what new people have to see. Sometimes they see things differently.

I'll echo SVS here -Bass is always pretty cold in the beginning of games and hopefully opens up.

DP's vote for low posters with only the :D smiley - was about PERFECT for a DP post. He is always one of the lowest posters. Like ever. OF course he voted that option. Of course he said it with as few words as possible. I actually really did LOL when I read his post and saw his vote.

Says nothing about DP's alignment like AT ALL. I have no idea at all what allignent he had, but flags would have been raised in my personal hed cannon if he voted any other way than the way he did.

A little more to East (and the same time more to the South) than that. Sorry for being mysterious about it. :P

I figured (the late night part, not the beers). So far you and SVS are the only players I notice staying up this late, in your case.
It's all good Ricky - you are not the only player that keeps their location on the vauge. I respect that actually. I'm in Arizona which means twice a year I float time zones.

SVS is up because she is on the east coast and it's currently like 8:28 am there. So she's waking up for the day and getting her coffee and starting her work day.

I tend to work nights. Which means, I'm up late even for my time (I typically get done beween 1-3 am my time) - which means it's not unusually for me to be 6 beers in at 5:30 am my time, 8:30 am SVSs time - and noon:30 your time.

When I posted early during the Day 0 poll is when I tend to be "coffee bea" - just waking up - etc.

Re: Death Note Mafia [DAY 1]

Finally caught up - reading through here's my thinking:

1) Tricey and Aces - I have a hard time see how tricey doesn't see his quote as misrepresenting what Aces was saying - cuz that's how it read to me as well. That said, he has been looking at other things besides just aces which gives me some decent feelings about him. Aces, while more vocal than he has been of late, does seem pretty lazor focused on tricey and just tricey - there's lots going on. I get being passionate and sure you are right, but wow! Not sure if I feel comfortable voting for either of them.

2) Interesting observations about teefies. I tend to always suspect him for stuff and I'm only right sometimes. I could see voting for him just for his Dr Wo slip up...

3) I have LITERALLY no idea why llama has 3 votes already. TH's isn't really explained, LC never explained why either and BR said she was voting someone else who appears to be no where near Llama on the poll. To top that off, llama's seemed pretty ok to me.

4) I could actually see myself voting FZ. Her focus on Snowman and Zombra seems odd given their neweness to a wonky full game. "Not baddie hunting" feels very pot and kettle from FZ as I've not really seen her do much but try to wiggle out of being caught saying odd things and the whole Zombra not baddie hunting thing.

Re: Death Note Mafia [DAY 2]

rusty - can you talk at all about why you haven't posted thus far in the game?

linki - boo - that's a good point. I know I saw tricey's quote of aces the same way aces saw it, but the fact that tricey kept looking other places for discussion besides aces was what swung me to *not* vote tricey. I did read aces's posts as genuine while they were happening as well.

S~V~S wrote:This is just like Waiting For Godot, except we're waiting for Epignosis, lol.

I came into today feeling pretty much the same about FZ as I did before. When she is a civ, regardless of the thread output, she is fearless, poking people and speaking her mind. Calling people out for all kinds of things. This game, not so much. When she finally does suspect someone strongly enought to commit to it (kinda) it is someone she suspects for basically the same reasons she herself is suspoect.

BUT the great Secret Eyeball Revelation plus Russti coming out of hiding has me wanting to see how Epi plays this.
She feels a bit over defensive at being looked at too. I've never heard her say that there was too much discussion going on before this game. Here or on her own site. She's usually the one trying to get people to talk more.

linki - I always feel like I'm late responding to everything. :sigh:

more linki -satisfied in what way TH? Epi's responses? Rusty's? The fact that beer is on the way to me and dinner is easy to make and starting to smell delicious? That it's almost the weekend?

I wish I could, but I don't really recall her being a baddie in a game we played together. I know I replaced her as a baddie in a game on K-site, but I'm not gonna lie, that game was so close to over, I did the baddie move of saying I was catching up but never really doing it.

FZ. wrote:At the risk of sounding even more not in the midst of things "like you expect FZ", what has been revealed, and what is everyone talking about when asking about Epi and the eye?

To conclude, because this is a long post:
1. She's using other's suspicions not giving anything of her own.
2. Her reasoning for going after me are the same as what she's accused me of doing, not to mention she keeps saying how I supposedly play, yet she's never seen me as a baddie.
3. She's asking a lot of questions but not saying anything conclusive apart from her "gut feeling" about me. It's like she seems right in the middle of things, but it feels not genuine
1) Yup. I do that a lot. Because I'm not the world's greatest case maker. I often spend the first few days of a new game reading and asking questions and pointing out what I agree with because it helps me find my footing and helps me to try to figure out who I trust. Excepting that game on K-site, where I was the info role, have you ever seen me be the sort of player that builds cases or agressively go after people.
2) I agreed with svs that your suspicion of zombra was odd because you were doing the same thing and she was a new player. Yup. I did that too. I am saying that I expect to see different things from you based on past behavior and I'm not seeing all those things. You were totes right that Tricey was looking other places. Yup I agreed with that. I did not agree with zombra and your suspicion of me kinda feels like a No U. I'm used to a different sort of FZ. I could be wrong, you could be civ in this game too - but your behavior here feels different from how it did at the beginning of the champions game when I was pretty positive by this time in the game you were civ.
3) Yup. I ask a lot of questions. I recall in the Champs game that it made you pretty sure I was civ. What changed your mind between here and there? How do I feel "less genuine" in this game?

Re: Death Note Mafia [DAY 2]

zeek posted when he was annouced - was that before or after the NP?

Linkie -lol - I was going to start today by saying LC fit that "people you expect to be more vocal but could be hiding in the wings for nefarious reasons." I went back and re-read his posts though and they do feel like they are trying to contribute while falling behind in the thread. IDK yet with him, but the thought has crossed my mind.

Re: Death Note Mafia [DAY 2]

@ LC - I totally get it. I actually agree with you that it will initially be hard to make cases on anyone as far as connections go because of the limited bts. I get it. That's why I went back and re-read you during my coffee time. Wanted to see if my "beer" thoughts panned out with my "coffee thoughts." Still keeping my eye on you though. :p You know how I feel about you. ;)

Re: Death Note Mafia [DAY 2]

So - ya'll make my head hurt and caused me to steal one more beer than I should have. :pout:

Keep this up and I'm stealing SVSs cookie stash. :p

Here's the thing I find troubling about Snowman. Even with 10 pages of catching up, he had to see in the first page or so that he was getting heat. He was here tonight - and the whole thread rejoiced to hear his input. You'd think that would make him go "Oh, I should prolly get up to speed if everyone's so anxious to hear what I have to say."

And he jokes around a bit more and leaves. Nothing more about not being quite caught up and will finish in the am - nothing addressing *anything* that's been said about him. Some jokes and he's out.

I know Donner was unconventional because so many people keep saying it was. But ya'll lynched people in the game right? I mean, it shouldn't be too hard for a guy in his second game to figure out that more than one person suspects his behavior and he should prolly come talk about it right?

To me, that coupled with everything else that's been said about him. Make me think my vote is likely going there tomorrow. I'm willing to sleep on it. Because I always prefer voting a late as I can anyway. But yea. Not lookin' so good Mr. Snowman.

Re: Death Note Mafia [DAY 2]

OMG! You guys! you are making my head hurty again and it was only just starting to feel better from yesterday.

So, snowman came back in and said something more substantial. I did get the feeling reading that he was struggling to keep up more than he didn't care.

So to answer your question TH -yea that does help. I was 3 beers in last night and this thread literally caused a mental breakdown. I'm glad I waited till the morning to make up my mind. I believe SVS has said I "get bitchy" or something of the sort when I'm a civ - I chalk that up to beer Bea. I try to balance beer Bea with coffee Bea.

Boo. Wow. That's a heck of a well written case.

llama troubles me because llama always troubles me. I often don't see what he sees and I have no idea when he's being stubborn and obsitnate (I say that lovingly llama) because if he's bad or if he's good. He always just reads that way and I seem to remember him being good more than bad. So yea. :( Troubling llama is troubling.

FZ - believe it or not - you bringing up a case against me - as well as your posts today - feel much more like the FZ I know and love. I've even agreed with you a couple times during my catch up. I do disagree with your assesment of SVS - I'm not seeing anything shadey from her at this moment. I'm willing to admit my heebiejeebies may have been preemptive. How bout we both keep an eye on each other and also everyone keeps an eye on LC because that cat is shifty. Not necessarily in a this game sense - but in an always sense. :p

I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out who to vote for you guys. There's been so much hair splitting that my split end's split ends have split ends. I'm starting to wish the DP option for Day 0 won. :p

Re: Death Note Mafia [DAY 2]

@ FZ - you're not the only one keeping an eye on teefies. ;) He's on my watch list too. Teefies, LC, Made - though his post does bring up a good point, he's still someone I keep forgetting is playing and that's really weird as Made is pretty unforgettable. BR not because I suspect her per say but because I'm still trying to figure out how to read her in general. Outside of saying she wouldn't mind seeing more discussion on Snowman has Zombra been back to offer any more insights in light of the new Snowman discussion?
