Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 0)

I am not in love with position 4. That poison. Position five allows Azuma to force three votes, which I also don't love. From the story, Ahriman & Caelia seem LEAST malign, although that is hard to say. But option 3 allows Ahriman 5 people to block, so not sure if that is a good thing so early in the game. Number two lets Azuma switch votes with someone, but that could easily backfire as I would think were that option in play, anyone pushing hard for a lynch would come under suspicion. Position one has both Caelia & Uzkaban able to survive a lynch, but not switch it.

So without thinking about it too much, I would rate them: 2,1,3,5,4. One, two & three are fairly fluid for me. But 4 and probably 5 are not choices I like.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 0)

OK, just from looking at the marquee roles, I was leaning position two, but these position 2 points are not so great:
War Monger - Warrior Clan
Position 1: Mind Control
Position 2: The Hunger
Position 3: ?
Position 4: ?
Position 5: Competition
THE HUNGER? No fucking way.
Highborn Assassin - Warrior Clan
Position 1: Seemer
Position 2: Parasite
Position 3: Power Steal
Position 4: Night Kill Survive
Position 5: Silence
Parasite? No fucking way.
Master of Ancient Arts - Brotherhood Clan
Position 1: Switches two targets
Position 2: Picks 5 people for a negative vote
Position 3: Turns into a Dragon
Position 4: Choose a player, if they are targeting someone they need to pick a new target
Position 5: Choose 3 other players to protect, they start the next day with three votes each
This is not that bad, but still, not that great. Although position 3, turns into a DRAGON!!!! Awesome, but also terrifying. Flames, ouch.
Brutal Executioner - Warrior Clan
He chooses a player, the kill goes through if they are the right clan.

Position 1: Kill a Sorcerer
Position 2: Kill a Guardian
Position 3: Kill a Brotherhood
Position 4: Kill a Warrior
Position 5: Kill a Children of Serenity
It doesn't matter what position here, lol. Also all respect to the hosts, this will be insane to coordinate. Insane, I tell ya.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 0)

If you look at all of the roles, there are horrible possibilities with all the positions. The one that looked best to me initially, position 2, includes the Hunger! (For those of you that have not played a Recruitment game, The Hunger is a horrible role that kills you in horrible ways for vague reasons. Having BEEN the Hunger and having been a victim of it, in two different games, I will say the Hunger sucks).

I think DH may be right. All options have positives and negatives, and that is how the hosts intended it.

Serenity, now that's interesting...
Serenity is the Game Moderator, not a role or game related. We are trying out having the game mods be anonymous for a game or two. Just wanted to let you know this, since it is not game related.

Linki~ the Hunger kills you for even alluding to its existence. It targets you with a requirement, and you must fulfill it without alluding, or even hinting in any way, to being targeted, or it kills you right on the spot. It is very perilous.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 0)

Thread lockdowns are something I don't really understand from a hosts perspective; why would you want to prevent people from posting? But then, i don't understand silencing either from a hosting standpoint so

I think we will get all options at some point. Knowing Black Rock the more we point out the ones we don't like, the more likely it is that tomorrow those will be the only options.

I think to some extent that Sorsha is right; we're boned regardless, lol. So going to stop overthinking and pick 3 (2 & 4 not my faves, might as well get a threadlock over with if we must) and try to see if we can get the numbers a bit closer. Or maybe we can try to form a hand giving the finger with the five options, or some other formation.

You know it. :slick:

Seriously though, since every Option has pros and cons, I returned to my thinking that we get a horrible Option done now, and despite how horrible thread locking is I just couldn't bring myself to vote for 2 or 3, so hence 4, which is sufficiently horrifying.
The thing I hate about 4, though, is that the poison is cumulative. Do we really want Ubzakan getting that on Day 1? I would prefer to get that one over with later rather than sooner if possible. From the host clarification post:
What is poison?

Once poisoned, a player will receive an additional, cumulative vote during each lynch thereafter.
I know I am overthinking again, but in all seriousness, that is the worst option based on that cumulative thing.

Can the Hosts really override the votes, if we bicker too much? Otherwise, the position switch ability I see would require that ability's position to be enabled first.
Sorry for lack of clarity. I meant that the host might cherry pick the night poll position options, not individual role options.

I am disappoint, the poll looks nothing like a hand giving the finger; if you squint a bit it looks like a hand that has suffered an unfortunate industrial accident.

I had totally forgotten about the Erlatz Eleven; didn't they have a reputation for partying? Was that the option they chose? I vaguely recall this. In any case, I am glad I chose to NOT be in with the in crowd, just in case.

In fact, she said that first.

SVS - help me with a bit of theorycrafting. (For anyone who asks, I asked SVS specifically because I know her brain works a lot differently to mine and so I think her perspective can be very helpful to me, but I'm interested in anyones view). If you were a baddie leader, what would your preferred approach be on day one - try and recruit someone you know is a major FEB and could be a big asset to the team, or try and recruit someone no-one would suspect?
That's a hard question.

I would either recruit someone who I would have fun with, OR i would recruit someone who has what i lack (which was my strategy when i used to hire my own assistants irl). Someone who was a better strategist (I am a good tactician, but a poor strategist) and perhaps better at the technical game, sussing out roles, etc. which is something I am the suck at. I have done both in the past. I don't think it matters if they are a FEB or not, tbh. That would not come into my considerations.

Does that answer your question?

Linki, ending someones game for something so trivial is ill done, imo. Especially when based on a nonsensical premise. "She said so". Well, she also said "not so". Make up your mind.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 1)

I tend to judge people as individuals not as reputations. My best game of all time was Rabbits SOT, I was a ... civvie. We had a large civ BTS group, and we worked pretty well together. That team has been my gold standard of what a team should be. Not so much for the individuals (although they all were awesome and people in the Mafia community that I <3 maybe a bit more than most) but for the way we worked together. I would want cohesion more than anything, really. Team players, no Prima Donnas.

What was your theory?

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 0) - Locked

@MP~ here is where she said about the three options:
Spoiler: show
Black Rock wrote:The Clans

Children of Serenity - They were the true believers in the lessons of Serenity, The clan is made of law makers, judges, those who will maintain order.

Guardians of the Lifeforce
- Peaceful, believers in nature, healers. They have little use for civilization. They seem cold to some because they shun progress.

Warriors of the Shadows
- Strong, honorable, vicious. They are often thought of as evil but they are interested in maintaining peace.

Sorcerers of the Elements
- Selfish, Chaotic, driven by power. They are talented in magic. Not truly evil though.

Brotherhood of the Inner Eye
- Interested in inner peace, they respect order. They will choose to influence people's choices

Each role will be assigned a clan, aspects of the roles are influenced by the clan they are from. These are not teams, just origins. There will be certain Clan dynamics throughout the game.

Starting Clan Dynamics

Children of Serenity - They are at peace with the Guardians and Brotherhood. They don't like the Warriors or the Sorcerers.

Guardians of the Lifeforce - They are at peace with the Children and Warriors. They don't like the Brotherhood or the Sorcerers.

Warriors of the Shadows - They are at peace with the Guardians and Brotherhood. They don't like the Children or the Sorcerers.

Sorcerers of the Elements - They are not at peace. They don't like any one.

Brotherhood of the Inner Eye - They are at peace with the Children and the Warriors. They don't like the Guardians or the Sorcerers.

EPIC CHALLENGES

Each role will have an Epic Challenge to complete. If they can, throughout the course of the game, complete this Challenge, they will have their role enhanced, gaining additional powers and/or win conditions. Epic Challenges are private and not to be shared in the thread or BTSC.

Rules

1. EPIC CHALLENGES will not be shared in any way (BTSC or thread) before completion. We will be monitoring all BTSC, violators will be mod-killed without prejudice. After completion you may ask the hosts if it is ok to share.

2. No illegal BTSC. This means communicating outside designated areas without permission. If you need to communicate outside designated areas then you may ask the hosts for permission. Violators will be mod-killed without prejudice.

3. No bullshit. This means this is a game. Treat as such. I love all my players and expect each and everyone to be treated with respect. No disrespectful behaviour will be tolerated. Don't be an ass.

4. If you are dead you may speak in dead red, you may not speak ontopic at all. If you are night killed you may not even say "GO CIVS"

5. All official PM's need to be sent to both hosts. We both need to know what is going on as we are working around our work schedules and our own business. If you don't follow this rule and your PM gets missed that's your fault.

6. If you guys can't get a long please direct things via PM to us or our neighbourhood mod. We got a good one and bullshit will be worked out behind closed doors.

7. No role outing. Honestly it says nothing about your alignment so shut up about it. Info dumping is a bit sticky. Don't assume it's an info dump, people lie. Don't say I'm such and such role and I know blah blah because I was on position *insert number here*... so there. I will slap you if you do.

8. No reproducing the host PMs in thread. This is an old rule, know it.

9. Have fun guys, it's important to my street cred.

Recruitments

As with the first three games there will be several ways to recruit. There is no obvious schedule to the players, only the schedule we have. Some recruitment's will be chosen players by the leaders. Some will be Public recruitment's in which we post a contest to win your recruitment judged by the applicable team.

Length of Days and Nights

Days are 48 hours, Day Zero is 24. All Night PM’s are due 23 hours after day ends, unless otherwise stated by us in the thread. Nights are still 24 hours long. LC is still doing the writing so…. we’ll try to stay on schedule…

Win Conditions

Civvie group 1 needs to defeat baddie group 1 and 2
Civvie group 2 needs to defeat baddie group 1 and 2
Baddie group 1 needs to defeat civvie group 1 and baddie group 2
Baddie group 2 needs to defeat civvie group 2 and baddie group 1

Recruitment

All players, except the Leaders, will start off the game as neutral. Recruitment will happen on a schedule designed to keep the game balanced. Some recruitment will happen privately and some will be public competitions. The winners of those competitions will be private. Usually by the end of the game every player alive has been recruited. All non-recruited players will survive to win. The baddie teams will have a limited amount of recruits at one time. The teams will not exceed a certain number. That number is private.

Positions

Each role will have a position. When you are on that position that will be your power. Day 0 we will vote for the first position. That power will be active for Day 1 and Night 1. Night 1 we will vote on a different position, that power will be active on Day 2 and Night 2 and so on. After the third position is chosen I will recycle the first position chosen and will continue like that. We should always have three positions to choose from. There are circumstances that could change that or force things.

Questions Answered

What are your participation guidelines?

If you are going to be gone, then let the thread and hosts know somehow. With that said, if a player misses 3 votes in a row or hasn’t posted in three day cycles they will be deemed a non-participant. Non-participants will then be replaced or mod-killed and take a Participation Score hit. Non-participators will not win.

What is a boon?

A boon is a piece of assistance for a player tailored to their specific needs and situation. It may be info, or a crucial protection, a subtraction of votes, or whatever.

So can I only be recruited to my own clan?

Most roles may be recruited to any team, regardless of their Clan. Ubzargan’s baddie team may end up stacked with Children of Serenity roles. During these chaotic times, people are choosing to follow strong leaders over tradition and clan loyalty.

Am I civvie when unrecruited? What is my alignment?

An unrecruited player can win by surviving until the end of the game. If you wish to play the game as a Civvie while unrecruited, then that is your prerogative.

What happens if the Leader of any clans die, does someone else take their place?

Someone that they have recruited will take their place as Leader.

If someone gets recruited, do they gain BTSC with the Leader?

Some Civvies get BTSC with the Leader, but it is a very limited number because too much Civvie BTSC would ruin the game. Baddies always get BTSC with their recruits.

Do my powers only begin once I'm recruited, or am I fully functional as of Night 1?

Your powers are active starting Day 1.

What is poison?

Once poisoned, a player will receive an additional, cumulative vote during each lynch thereafter.
The relevant bit:
Positions

Each role will have a position. When you are on that position that will be your power. Day 0 we will vote for the first position. That power will be active for Day 1 and Night 1. Night 1 we will vote on a different position, that power will be active on Day 2 and Night 2 and so on. Ah geez, nothing like coming into the thread in the morning and finding every other post begins with a quote from me. I realize I'm not the focus but still, not something I want to see
Golden wrote:I did not know SVS had previously been a recruiter but that played no factor in why I asked her. When testing theories, different ideas are better.
I was more successful in the first game (where I succeeded the first Lady Civvie than in the third, where I succeeded a baddie, I forget the role names, although I started out as the Hunger in that game :feb: )

And I get why you asked me, 100%. I was there, and you & I pretty much never think the same gamewise. I can say that for alot of people though, lol. I think Epi thinks you were trying to entrap me somewhat, ask me a leading question, then hoist me on my own petard; Lord knows (as does Epi) that it''s an easy thing to do sometimes. The only thing I found odd about the whole thing was the names you threw out there. I think your point was pretty clear without using examples.

But yeah, discussion works best when different perspectives are brought to the table. I think this is something that Epi does, he comes into the thread and throws a name down like a gauntlet for reasons of his own. Sometimes he is very right, sometimes not.

I'd like to know your precise stance on llama ASAP.
My precise stance on llama is pretty much the same as it always is. He can tell you, I am sure, but I don't recall the last time I voted for him when i was a civ. I think Llama plays Mafia for his own amusement, and I am not sure that even he believes that all of the silly, nitpicky reasons he suspects people are true. TBH, I am fairly sure that much of the time he does not. I visualize him saying some of the things he posts out loud, as he drinks his picture perfect scotch on the rocks, and giggling at us silly plebians.

I think that this makes Llama a hard read, but I also think that when he is civ, a bit more of an indignant tone creeps into his defenses (because Llama is always having to defend himself). When he's bad, he sounds a touch more ironic. His suspicions are somewhat more serious when he's bad as well. I have seen a tad more indignant here than irony; I do not think that at the time he said any of that Tiny Bubbles stuff that he was bad, and after him asking to be recruited by the baddies, I don't think he was recruited by the baddies, lol.

Is that specific enough? I am not sure I like to talk as much as you do, but I can go on when I try :D

I have just done a skim catch up, this is the furthest back I have gone. I will do more in depth after dinner.

I have been lucky in my BTS partners in the past, that's for sure. I would recruit any of those guys for both game related and personal reasons. Super competitive, smart, detail oriented and somewhat patient with me asking the same question for the 88th time, lol. Plus just fun guys to hang out with; I have never really had regualr BTS with aapje, but he has basically held my mostly stupid & uncomprehending hand throughout Aces D & D game patiently telling me week after week what my roll should be. I don't think I have ever won with Typh, and I only won with Tranq in Jurassic Park (where we used our lynch switch to save Nutella, a baddie on the other team, and got ALL of those guys lynched, lol, good times). But winning isn't everything.

I play Mafia to have fun playing hard. That said, if any of them are recruiting, they did not recruit me :pout:

@Golden, in the past, the recruit passed down. That's how I got it in the first game, the original recruited was NKed.

Got em! JJJ is obviously a baddie tracker

I do hope I am color coding everything appropriately. A question for anyone, on average how long does it take before players start putting in their votes? Is the fact that I voted first when I did unsettling to anybody? If so, then why?
Generally, until recently, we could not change votes, so holding votes till closer to the end was more common. We do both styles now, unchangeable votes, and votes that can be changed. We still tend, overall, though, not to vote early & change often. It is still kind of suspicious, but with the influx of people from other communities, like yours, that perception is changing a bit. You don't know Unfurl, and our community is a bit differnt in that not all of us are as concerned with "solving the game" or playing the same way as each other. I think Unfurl has been acting pretty much like herself~ but you don't know that, so meh.

Day one often turns into a last minute clusterfuck.

OMG, such a fun team :D I was about to get boned there, so  but we were close. I think we talked more about ASOIAF than the game ha ha.And all of those ridiculous chatrooms & Room 23.

People can poo-poo it if they like. I think you are a recruiter based on THAT right there alone.

But do you have reason to believe he is a BADDIE recruiter specifically? Becasue two of the four are benign at worst, good at best.

SVS, what do you make of Golden's recent behavior-- especially his NO U on Rob?
The part where he said he wanted Epi dead or God help him felt fairly sincere to me, Golden being a lay preacher and all. As I said initially, Goldens original line of questioning to me did not feel that odd, although I did not love him mentioning specific people as examples.

I think that sometimes when you are frustrated it is easy to turn on your persecutor, especially if YOU perceive their argument to be ridiculous. But I really disliked him bringing up specific people as examples of what baddies might find desirable in a recruit.

And yeah, it's the hair.

When I was Jelly King Earl, Supreme Lord of Purpleosity (I think that was my role...but maybe I was just an early recruit to the jelly team? My memory is fucked..) my entire game plan was about fun maximization. I recruited solely based on how funny people's posts were. I don't think my in-thread play differed much (I'm always kind of a sarcastic/goofy asshole)...but I think I was definitely more engaged in the thread than was typical for me at the time
I don't know Typh. You were on my team. Do you think I played differently? I try to play the same from game to game. I do remember that Epi called out what happened with my role (I died early and was rezzed into a secret role.) And for awhlle I was able to brush it off but as more and more civ recruits were rezzed, it was more and more difficult to defend against the truth of Epi's argument. Killing him didn't help anything even though you and Tranq both though it was the right thing to do at the time (if I am remembering correctly). Eventually, I became as close to an outed baddie as I've ever been. So yea, my play was prolly pretty different when I realized there was nothing I could do to hide anymore.

still on like page 16...

I called out Roxy and S~V~S too.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 1)

When the arguments in favor of lynching a specific person include picayune semantics like the use of but or because; or if they turn around fine points such as , did a person actually say something or was he just appearing to actually say something, sorry buckaroos, but I am not going there.

Unless Golden started out on someones short list, or is a recruiter himself, I don't see him applying for baddie positions in the various contests that the host is likely to have, based on prior experience with their games. I also think that, based on odds, he is as unlikley to have started out as a baddie recruiter as anyone else, 2 people out of 30ish? I know that if i was a baddie recruiter, I would not put Golden on an initial 3 person list because he has often said he strongly prefers being a civ, and I would not recruit someone who would be unhappy to be recruited, someone who would have preferred to be on another team. I know not everyone thinks like me, but I will assume that some do. So I think that the odds of Golden finishing the game as a civ or a neutral are somewhat higher than for most people. There are a lot of "ifs" in what I just said, and any of then could be wrong. The weakest link, imo, is the supposition that baddies would be less likley to recruit him. Perhaps if they were not as familiar with him as I am, or if they did not care about his preferences.

But for me, it is enough, and based on this I do not want to vote for Golden at this time.

Work calls even though we have an official flash flood warning where I live, so i am leaving a bit early. I hope not to see updates about DHs poop when I get back tonight :stare:

I'd sort of forgotten her altogether until I saw her vote for MP just now.
