Except if I worked an hour on a totally screwy spreadsheet and am missing something, please explain how positions 1 and 2 are have more amount of death than position 5. All positions allow the Executioner to attempt a kill, whilst position 3 and 4 enable Caelia and Ahriman to kill. Uzbekistan's poison is also on position 4, in case that thing is deadly or anything (is it?).

The Spinner can also gain immunite to Ubzy and Azura kills, but I'm not seeing them having any kill positions. Or do they?

I'm probably gonna ask a lot of questions in this game. :noble:

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 1)

I like JaggedJimmyJay's idea. I don't think it'll help with the Day 1 lynch, but i've enjoyed reading the responses.
My three recruits would be aapje, Typhoony and SVS. Regardless of alignment.

Poor unfurl. It always sucks to get the 1st vote on the 1st Day :p I agree with Golden and Roxy - I saw nothing un-unfurly (furly..?) in her interactions with MP.

I don't mind going with a low poster if there are no other solid leads.

Also, this post has been written using default-#E6E6E6. I encourage everyone to try it out :nicenod:

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 1)

Day 0 recruits usually are the only recruits leaders get to hand-pick, and only one of them gets recruited. There'd be no point in selecting 1 player you're familiar with, 1 you haven't played with before, and 1 you have an ongoing rivalry with, for example.

So to answer JaggedJimmyJay specifically: these are three players i've played before with, i know they have the skill and experience, and i know we usually have fun together. Although i wouldn't call aapje likable :p

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 1)

This is why we need a linkback function:
Image

I almost gave up on reading through the Golden-Epignosis posts. I'm glad it finally got to the point where Epignosis very clearly stated why he suspected Golden, and highlighted the quote. You should do that more often :p
That said, while i don't agree with the suspicion, Golden going with a "lynch me" attitude isn't helping anyone. Golden, you've mentioned doing this in King Arthur before. While you got yourself lynched, i don't remember it ended up being a smart move. I suggest you snap out of it :nicenod:

As for the LMS debate, i really disagree with Spacedaisy's post. Especially the first couple of Days you're going to find players with this sort of mindset, yet people keep getting lynched because of it (i think myself in RM1 or RM2, and as Typhoony pointed out Timmer in RM3). It's a fun way to play early in the game. I'm not voting for someone that's clearly enjoying and embracing a different setup.

Or that there are just factions not teams (Roxy comes to mind).

I'm not sure I want to vote for either of them, because I think that in a complex game, with the added idea of clans, it's not impossible to be confused. I do, however, think that it's possible that a baddie might want to perpetuate the confusion and get people to believe that there aren't baddies.
There could be, aye. Though generally i don't remember baddies in previous RM games laying the focus on there not being enough baddies/civvies yet. Players who were vocal about playing the unrecruited/neutral way usually always ended up being unrecruited. Maybe i should go look through the RM3 thread again.

I don't think the Brutal Executioner's kill would go through if the kill got deflected to someone who is not a Sorceror.

My first thought was 'Why would the Executioner kill someone who voted Position 1 on Day 0?' Those players would be less likely to be a Sorceror as that's the Position the Executioner could kill them on. Clearly that's not true :P but i wouldn't be surprised if some kind of deflection happened.

Even if she isn't recruited or recruiter of a nefarious nature, that is a dangerous mindset, and considering 28 of us are neutral, she may receive my vote purely for that unwillingness.
I don't see anything wrong with her having the attitude you described Day 1 in a Recruitment game. Especially her post here is one i agree with. I don't read her as having 0 intention in discussing anything (i think she has posted quite a bit since your interactions), i read it as wanting to play the game in her own way. I wouldn't dismiss Caelia's pardon entirely. Caelia knows Supreme Judge can interfere with their power. What if Caelia ended up with the most votes, then decided to pardon the lynch only to find out Supreme Judge had already ended the Day? Caelia would be dead and pissed :p

if the stats are correct that a 1-vote 11-player tie took place and a player gets lynched through randomization, then it must mean the player who got lynched survived the lynch, according to his position 1

ergo any of the following players (BWT, Canuck, Epignosis, Golden, MP, Russ, SVS, Tranq, Unfurl, Wilgy - I'm not, but feel free to throw me in as well; I would have super dead and super pissed if I would have been lynched or if the Day would have ended with me having two votes) can be:

Ubzargan the Ruthless - Immune to NK/Lynch
Jilted Lover - Can’t die as long as ? alive

If I missed anything, let me know, but so far I believe this to be the conclusion: our non-lynched player today is Uzbargan or the Jilted Lover. unfortunately we have 11 candidates for this spot

I had no idea what the voting situation was at the time the night ended early and I didn't figure out the difference in time zone, but just from a basic calculation it seemed early enough that there was no reason to assume BWT would flip. He only really led within the last hour or so.

So you're inclined to believe that the person who ended the day early was not aligned with Team Good Guys, or still among the neutral pile?

I think you could select a large number of posts from about the same area of the thread and find a "could have been..." description for them that suits your theory in a similar fashion. You're already reaching quite a bit -- not only to peg this role on me, but beyond that to assert it'd even warrant a vote if you were right.
I noticed something and brought it up, partly to see your reaction, partly because I thought it worthy of bringing up. Yours was the only vote within a time frame close to the vote end time that talked about people being sure to vote. It stood out to me. I pointed it out. It's what I do.

I do not the the person who ended day early is civ aligned, for sure. I think they may have been bad alligned--but they may be neutral. But their action does not feel neutral. So I feel it is worth discussing.

And I don't think I said I was going to vote for you, just that I suspected you and had/have an eye on you. Your reaction to that seems a bit over the top, tbh, and didn't make me feel better. But still just keeping an :eye: for the time being.
Supreme Judge is a Child of Serenity. Brutal Executioner kills a Child of Serenity tonight. This theory can be tested by asking Brutal Executioner to target JaggedJimmyJay.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 5)

I'm going to catch up backwards, starting from this page.

My thoughts on JJJ and DrWilgy v timmer:
JaggedJimmyJay wrote:
timmer wrote:How are people going to handle the unrecruited side of things? Last game, I rather infamously flamed out, and it all started when I admitted that I didn't give a crap who got lynched since I was neutral. There was more to it than that afterwards, but that was essentially the big issue.
Orange = Can anyone who played in Recruitment 3 recall this incident and report on its significance? I merely want to gauge how believable timmer's innocence was when posing this question -- asking for people's unrecruited strategies and wondering aloud how he might play his own.
The orange part is correct. Timmer 'flamed out' and got lynched early on as an unrecruited player. Here's the relevant post:

Quote from RM3:
Timmer » Wed Apr 16, 2014 1:21:28 am wrote:Look, I honestly didn't care about either case or who died, tbh. I still kind of don't .

We're (almost) all unrecruited, so why should I fight to take out a baddie? Why, honestly, do I care if the civs or the baddies gain an advantage? What if I baddiehunt for days snd then get recruited to the very team I was helping to decimate? I have absolutely no reason to care, yet. It's a weird game! Naturally this may lead to my demise, but if I'm out, I'm going out honest lol.
Note how this post from another game a year ago sounds almost exactly the same as the post he made here, the post that's being called out as bullshit:
DrWilgy wrote:JJJ pointed this out, but I would also like to address how bullshit this is.
timmer wrote:
Fifth, where I'm still at a conundrum is that (and take this with whatever grain of salt you want, I recommend Kosher personally) I still have no team and thus I'm not sure which kind of case to get behind, as any of them could affect my future employer. For instance, Canuckle makes a very good point about TinyBubbles. She seems like she's recruited and unsure of how to act. But what if that's true but Tiny's team will be my team?
Still being obsessed with teams is my trigger, hopping on the TinyBubbles boat so quickly without providing anything that hasn't been said already is also my trigger (especially since I'm pretty sure TinyBubbles is neutral).
This reads like timmer's neutral play to me. What's wrong with being obsessed with teams?
timmer wrote:Holy cap, host, you spent a lot of time on that. But you missed every key point about my game up to here. I stayed quite simply right from the start that I wasn't going to play like a civ until I have reason to, and I've followed through on that worth perfect consistency.

Yeah, I've jumped on bandwagons worth little to no thought, because I can't trek who is on a team flow the most part and thus if someone does it's cool with me, because I'm still neutral. Plain and simple, I remain unrecruited and no that's not a clever truth to hide the fact that I'm a team leader, I am still neutral.
Sounds consistent to me :p

So, it should be clear that I don't believe in theory 1. If theory 1 is true, then I was completely played a fool. It doesn't make sense to me for Ubooboo to kill Unfurl if Bubbles was a team mate before day 5, due to that implicating Bubbles even more so.

Theory 2 is what I propose actually happened. If you pay attention to the timing of the recruitment day 5 it makes sense. It would also explain why Bubbles didn't respond all day, she was just added to a team. Hence she appeared and spoke to us from beyond the grave the moment the day resolved. this would make sense if Bubbles didn't want to spew that she was recruited, so she chose silence over anything worse. This is reflective of her later more emotional posts, and how they were much more volatile... And her being recruited at 7:59 also explains why she would let me take the fall defending her, instead of her defending herself. I posted her defense 6 min before the day 5 recruitment (and that's not including the time it took to write it). I actively gave her no reason to respond... I'm sorry everyone I almost screwed everything up.
Ubzargan's Day 5 recruitment wasn't a public recruitment. If TinyBubbles got recruited after the switched lynch, either Ubzargan chose to recruit TinyBubbles (unlikely), or it happened by coincidence (possible). I think it's more likely she got recruited Day 0 or Day 1.

Here are Ubzargan's recruitments:

- handpicked by Ubzargan End of Day 0: http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... 16#p167416
- joined the Public Recruitment 2nd half of Day 1: http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... an#p168018 / http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... 10#p168510
- non-public recruitment 2nd half of Day 5: http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... an#p172957

Irrelevant to the discussion, but i also noted Azura's recruitments while going though BR's posts:
- handpicked by Azura End of Day 0: http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... 16#p167416
- non-public recruitment early Day 3: http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... ra#p170815
- joined the Public Recruitment Night 5: http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... 52#p172952 / http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... ra#p173714

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 6)

I've been trying to figure out the switch to unfurl.

- Ubzargan wanted to get rid of unfurl
- Ubzargan wanted to get rid of unfurl's role: the Technohacker

The Technohacker is not a very dangerous role. Except for maybe one position:
Position 4: Knows how many non-voters are evilly-aligned in the previous lynch

The only thing i can come up with is maybe Ubzargan knew unfurl's role, knew atleast 1 teammate would certainly miss the vote, anticipated Position 4 would be picked next as that was the only one that hadn't been used yet, and decided to switch the lynch to her for that reason. The players that missed the Bubbles-unfurl lynch-switch-vote are Bass2.0, reywaS, Roxy and TH.

I'm putting a vote on DrWilgy for now. A couple of things have been bothering me.

- Early in the game he had that odd hate/love relationship with unfurl. I wouldn't be surprised if that's why the lynch got switched to her. So he could make that "Will you help me avenge Unfurl?" post while also bringing up the "it makes no sense for Bubbles to kill unfurl" argument.

- His wanting to lynch Timmer who i think has been playing his typical neutral self.
- The post he made discussing Timmer here:
Tranq wrote:
DrWilgy wrote: Still being obsessed with teams is my trigger, hopping on the TinyBubbles boat so quickly without providing anything that hasn't been said already is also my trigger (especially since I'm pretty sure TinyBubbles is neutral).
This reads like timmer's neutral play to me. What's wrong with being obsessed with teams?
Again, what's wrong with being obsessed with teams? Well, a player already on a team wouldn't be obsessed with that anymore.

- The poison post 2 posts 4 posts above this one. More wifom :meany:

- Night 4, after Bubbles' switch:
DrWilgy wrote:Don't vote for position 1 or 3. We don't want to give lynch immunity tomorrow.
Night 5, after Bubbles' death: I'm pretty sure i saw him voting position 1 but i cannot confirm without the screencap. Why the change of heart? Ubzargan would want position 1 today, especially if he got heavily involved in the Bubbles stuff. If i misremembered, ignore this last point :p

Spacedaisy wrote:Ok, I don't know why no one is talking about this, but I will. Llama, the Bubbles lynch flip makes you look incredibly bad. You came out of the gate on Bubbles for something ridiculous. And yet when it came down to her lynch you didn't vote for her. Not only did you not vote for her but you made two separate posts talking about how Uzbarg would have no reason not to use his power, one time saying that we learn zero information from the switch. The last time you said anything negative about Bubbles was in Night 4 and all it said was everything bubbles said read insincere to you. That is it. So you go from being after her hard at the start and then you barely say anything about her lynch? Then after her flip you come out yelling about how you knew it and you were right, etc. taking credit for a lynch you played absolutely no part in at all. Your only explanation about why you didn't vote for her was to say you didn't think your vote would matter so you put your vote somewhere else. And if that was why you were doing it, why wouldn't you say that in your vote. Why wouldn't you express your approval of the lynch train that was forming? Instead you tried to convince people who were waffling to vote for DH instead. I think you are Uz and you recruited Bubbles. I think today's dog and pony show about looking for Bubbles teammates is your way to hopefully direct attention anywhere but you.
To be clear, do you suspect Llama of being Uz and having recruited Bubbles Day0/Day1, or do you believe Bubbles joined Llama's team after Night 4? The former doesn't make sense to me and the latter seems unlikely as i've mentioned before.

aapje's post here stands out to me:

So if you are telling the truth about not sending in your PM that night that would mean Synonym is lying. :eye:
It's also a funny post as on Day 7 he states he suspects Ricochet based on his rezz.
aapje, if both of them claim to tell the truth, which one would you trust? :p

If we're going to focus on Ubz tomorrow (which I think we should) we don't want a lynch switch or a protect from him (plus mild consequences, whatever that entails). I think poison is, while not ideal, manageable.
Position 2 has Ubzulu's lynch switch. Last time Position 5 got picked, the Druidic Elder switched the lynch to DharmaHelper. Are you assuming Druidic Elder is on team Ubzulu?

Voting Position 4.

Spacedaisy wrote:Bwt replaced boomslang. I believe boomslang was bad. He was already under suspicion from players, then Night 9s came along and Ahriman attempted to kill 2 people, DH and boomslang. Both failed. It has generally been agreed upon that DH would be a freaking weird choice of kill for Ahriman, all things considered. I had looked over the list to see if there was a reason that Ahriman might have ended up with two kills showing up in one night. The only thing I could see was that Boomslang (because I am operating under the belief that Ahriman wouldn't have targeted DH) might be either the jilted lover or the warden. We know now that Gman was the jilted lover in his previous incarnation,so we can scratch that. So if he was the warden, and the power was used by him, targeting DH seems like a decidedly baddie move. Then the only sense I can make of Roxy's weirdness over the restarted night was that she was trying to obfuscate the truth about what occurred in order to provide some cover for boom/bwt. I really think this would be the best choice for a lynch today.

The highlights of the game were the TinyBubbles and DrWilgy lynches. That plan worked out great :p

-- What was your epic challenge?
Epic Challenge: If 3 players do not complete their challenge then you may choose 3 players to challenge instead of 1. If 3 players successfully lynch the other player then you may recruit one of them in a private shared win condition.
-- Who did you mind control on D/N1 and what was the result?
Position 1: Chooses two people who have to make a case and vote for each other. If they don’t complete the case they both gain three votes and are role blocked the following night.
Mind control on BWT and unfurl. -> both complete the challenge but don't get each other lynched

-- Who did you place in competition on D/N2 and what was the result?
Position 5: Thread goal/competition (make people turn on each other to win) ie. players choose someone to try and lynch, who ever gets the most votes on their target wins.
Tranq targets SVS and aapje for a competition. Fails because of the protection. I'll let aapje explain this blunder :p

-- What was your position 3 and did you do anything with it D3?
Position 3: Send False Information
Night ended before i could use this power.

-- Who did you hunger on D/N4, if anyone?
Hunger Scotty. He has to get JJJ dead within 2 full periods -> Not sure if this power went through or not, but JJJ got NK'd within 2 full periods
-- What was your position 4 and did you anything with it D/N5?
Position 4: Illusionist (create false result in host post)
I made TinyBubbles appear as a member of Team Ubzurgan :D

-- Who did you place in competition on D/N6 and what was the result?
Canucklehead vs Roxy -> Canuck votes DrWilgy who gets lynched - Roxy misses the vote and fails the challenge.
Not sure if she won a prize or not.

-- Did you do anything with position 3 on D7?
No
-- Who did you mind control on D/N8 and what was the result?
Canuck and BWT -> Canuck votes BWT and gets him lynched - BWT selfvotes and fails the challenge
-- Did you do anything with position 4 on D/N9?
Night 9 i added the part about Abriham failing to kill DharmaHelper
-- Who did you hunger on D/N10, if anyone?
Hunger nutelLA to lynch Scotty. Scotty got NK'd same night :/
-- How did you survive the D10 lynch?
MM used his Night 9 Position 4 power to protect our team Night9/Day10.

Night 11 i used Competition on aapje and MM. MM picked Canuck. aapje picked nutelLA who got lynched. aapje won 5 extra votes
