Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 0]

Oooh, tough call. I love Ewoks on Endor, training on Dagobah, and Cloud City, if I didn't already like it for its tech and clouds, this:

But I'll go Tatooine. I'm drawn to it as the first real planet we see in the "first" film, if I recall correctly.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 1]

Blarg. Like what others have said, I feel like I'm drowning in too many ideas/things to keep up with in this game. I suppose, however, that it is nice that people are discussing more specific things than the usual Day 1 banter of "vote low posters, don't vote low posters," etc. (there has been that sort of talk, but not to the absurd extent I'm used to). But I ramble.

So, I'll discuss what stood out to me the most in this rather quick read (and by quick I mean hour-long speed read of about ten pages).

Although I understand where they're coming from, people jumping on Simon for his comment about wanting to find Boba Fett, an Indy, looked like disingenuous baddie hunting, like they're looking for something tenuous to grab on to from a low poster. This may be because I know Simon, but I'm always weirded out by people jumping on little things like that, perhaps to see who bites.

Simon wrote:I'm here. I see there are a lot of players who aren't talking like me. I think it would be good to find and lynch Boba Fett because he can kill any night. We need to make sure he doesn't survive. :srsnod:
I agree. Now how do you suppose we go about doing that?
This post bothered a little more, though. Are you actually agreeing with Simon's proposition, or just questioning it? If you are agreeing, it reeks of opportunism. Jumping on a bad idea from a new player so you can help him lead town in the wrong direction is pretty bad. Then again, it sounds too obvious of a thing for a mafia player to do.

Then in a next post, you are calling Simon scum. And now I'm confused. Do you agree or not agree with him?
I was wondering this same thing; however, I had this tabbed before I saw Zebra's response, which is satisfactory. I get good vibes from Zebra, despite the aggressive playstyle (which is normal for her :P ) MP, you have asked on at least two occasions about people's opinion of Zebra, and because of that, it appears as though you're pushing for something without jumping into it. Care to elaborate on your own feelings about her? (and apologies if I've missed your opinion if you've stated it)

Regarding Matt F, although, like Eloh, I'm reluctant to go after someone who has put in a lot of posting on Day 1 and put himself out there, I don't get good vibes from him. I won't even touch the Death Star madness. As others said, it did seem as though he were posting ISOs because Zebra posted them and he (Matt) wanted to appear more contributory. His exchanges with Golden don't make me feel better about him, as it looks like he's trying to pick at an obscure idea of his gameplay to point fingers at him (similar to what I said about suspecting little things like with Simon and wanting to catch Boba Fett - see what sticks?). Honestly, I'm starting to lose my eloquence because I've been posting this for almost an hour.

Eloquence lost. bcornett seems to be doing the same thing, picking at it with Golden (this time about "content," which there was plenty of in his posts, despite what bcornett says and flip-flops on). Keeping my eye here.

Okay I have seriously run out of steam and it's turning more into stream of consciousness than to my usual liking. I have spent far too much time here today, and I need to eat, and there's a billion linki posts (I may be exaggerating) that cry for reading but my hunger says no. I really did have a more well-worded explanation of my Matt F pings in my head, but I hope the above suffices. I'm going to vote that way and then make breakfast for dinner, because breakfast for dinner. Back perhaps later when my brain clears up.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 2]

Thank you all for making that catch up less painful - grading for three hours straight will turn one's brain into jelly, fast  Busy weekend for all of us, I suppose.

As usual, I am posting and reading around dinnertime, which means I'm fighting my hunger pangs and the deadline (and the added incentive not to be last to vote), so I'll try to make this quick.

That makes the third vote for Matt F that I am uncomfortable with. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm officially not voting for him. Most of the wagon is just too easy.
This is absurd. You had been posting consistently about Matt F. You made some really great points. Yet when others vote there you get "uncomfortable" with your own suspicion? Why when it was so consistent and on point? Instead you vote Bass who you, yourself said you wanted to wait for another response from him. Your meaningless vote after the whole day of iso's and suspicions felt like a big cop out.
Then after Matt's reveal you come out with tons of excuses and guns blazing against Golden bc he did not push Bass more - huh? Why does what Golden does or votes make so much of a difference with how you vote? Why is it Golden's fault Bass did not get lynched?

Of those only 2 have actually read the thread. There has been little to no activity from Dom (5), Roxy (7), Glorfindel (13), nijuukyugou (15), or Sorsha (22).

Already painting people as bad before the lynch is even over. :ponder: Sounds like someone wants the ball to roll at Matt voters vs the others. Why? You did not even know Matt''s alignment yet.

I think it could give us info, if not now later.

I am now caught up.

If people want to find me suspicious bc my random landed on Matt F so be it. Can't really defend against that suspicion - but maybe thats your point. :nicenod:
Consider me a bit pinged by Roxy's lack of substantive opinions about anyone, even after admitting she is caught up. Roxy can be pretty opinionated... and she's had hundreds of posts to read and form opinions off of. Why nothing?

She seems to throw some gunk here at zebra, but despite all of the questions, it seems to lack conviction... she doesn't even say she suspects her.

What does everyone else think?
While I don't feel like I have a really strong grip on Roxy's game (I feel like I play her games more often than actually playing with her), I agree that her responses were less opinionated than I'm used to, especially since she says she's been catching up and that part of her own defense of herself was that she was salty about Zebra accusing her of not reading carefully. I feel like she'd have something stronger to say than defending herself. My reservation is RL circumstances that may prevent said opinions about other players from coming through, but then again, if there was time to defend, there was time to play offense, too. I feel pinged, but not strongly enough to give her a vote today.

MP, I'mma be honest - something about your play is making me suspicious of you. You are asking lots of questions of the thread and giving advice like you want to appear you're doing it for the "good of the team/civs," but it looks disingenuous to me. Mac made a comment about your advice regarding the trust of zebra, and while I agree with said advice with trusting people, I also agree that you seem to be trying to draw negative attention to her oh-so-subtly. Perhaps it's just that I haven't played with you in a while. Perhaps I'm just following your advice to watch out for "trustworthy" players :P But perhaps it's also reminding me of a game where you were manipulatively bad (Roger Rabbit, maybe?). However, this is such a tenuous suspicion/ping and I need to gather more information. Consider yourself in the orange zone, if I were so inclined to make a rainbow list.

As for people I actually would vote today, I'm leaning towards either Enrique or Bass. Bass' play looks like what I've experienced as his baddie self - low number of posts, just enough to stay in, without much substance. He doesn't post much with any alignment, but I agree with others that his response to suspicions against him, which was simply laughing it off and calling himself busy, looked pretty terrible. It's not like his posting is so markedly low that he had to defend himself like that, so I thought that was weird as crap. His suspicion of Zebra looks contrived, especially since her suspicion is of low posters like him. As for Enrique, while I didn't understand the heat he was taking Day 1, today he looks flounder-y, especially after being called out for clipping the conversation between MP and Russ, which makes me think he's got something to hide. My argument and suspicion of Bass is stronger after writing that out, so I'll vote there. And now I can go cook before I pass out from hunger - hooray!

Rainbow list maybe? :D
Hell no :suspish:

There are far too many people for that, and that's not how the tentacled one rolls--err, swims? Splashes? I do, however, have my suspicions. I'll start with this:
Golden wrote:I'm here-ish, ninja.

I would like to get a sense of who you are most suspicious of, and particularly your view on the more popular suspects like zebra, bcornett, russti, glorfindel, enrique, bubbles...
As much as I feel I've read, I kinda can't believe it's still only Day 3, and what makes reading people more difficult is not having much of a vote record to go off of, seeing as we've lynched an indy and a civ. My reads, therefore, are almost exclusively tone-based, which is still a helpful marker in baddie-hunting, I suppose (although I much prefer the logic of vote analysis, as I found in BoB and Frisky Dingo).

Zebra, as far as gameplay goes, still looks pretty good to me. Not much of an opinion change since the last time I looked at her. I understand she's taking heat for Bass' flipping civ, but my gut and read still says "good."

Russ is disengaged as hell because he seems to be busy with traveling. His vote patterns and "tone" (if drive-by posting can be read for tone) are consistent with this. Neutral. Enrique discusses the possibility of his being indy, but then he makes a lot of other assumptions regarding the sand people that just...well, even if they did connect, why focus on him? I suppose Enrique has reason to do so, if he believes he's been poisoned, but for the civs as a whole, I believe MM made the point that we have 8 baddies to find, which seems a lot more pressing.

I have not liked Glorfindel's responses to what I believed to be a pretty good case on him from MM (I even tabbed it for response! Whee!), as well as others responding to and agreeing with the suspicions. I found them to be very dismissive instead of actually engaging in discussion, which I've found is usually a mafia tactic (although I said the same for Bass, and look what happened...:sigh:). Leaning baddie here.

Enrique's responses and discussion today with Zebra have me thinking he's civ, and frustrated at that (at least yesterday/last night/whenever their interactions occurred). My suspicion last phase, I admit, was tenuous, due to lack of focus and participation. I don't plan to vote that way.

Bubbles looks like Bubbles, and I straight up didn't even realize she was playing until this last read-through when she garnered some reactionary posts to her vote. Her participation is wayyyyy down, but there's no read from me for that (3 posts?). Is it Bubbles that actively proclaims hating being mafia? I can't remember. (That's a real question, by the way.) Anyway, there were two reactions I noticed more than anything: Zebra's and bcornett's. Zebra's reaction read to me like, "Hey, post more, you low poster!" while bcornett's reaction was to latch on to a "suspicion" of her as fast as possible:
bcornett24 wrote:
Bubbles wrote:voting zebra for voting bass, and because i don't think enrique is bad from his tone. and i don't want to miss another vote so that's why i'm posting now!
You have exactly three posts, come in drop a vote and leave...you deserve to be lynched. This is the type of behavior that contributes to town loses.

Based on your tone, you aren't going to be around again anytime soon. I don't like this.
I didn't like this jump, either. Regardless of participation level, a civ is a civ is a civ. Yes, low participation is not helpful to the civ cause, but it's a body in our corner. This looks opportunistic to the max. Golden, you already said it well in your response to him (also had that tabbed!), so I'll just say I agree with you, both on this point and on what his behavior's been like throughout the game.

So, at this point, I'm most likely to vote bcornett.

Whew! And I'm still alive and kickin'! I've spent far too much time here today, but I'll stick around for a bit more. Yay real time!

She will always give her genuine feelings. I don't consider them indicative of affiliation. She is a very consistent player regardless of affiliation. I find the only way to catch her is based on her reads and her scumhunting etc.
Roxy's tone consistently reads mafia to me, and it's why I have such trouble reading her, even after playing with her for years.

What do you think about her reads and scumhunting this game? They've failed to impress me so far.
I agree with this, MP - the only "strong" reaction/read she's had so far is of Zebra, and that seemed to only be due to Zebra going after Roxy's Matt F vote. She says she's busy, which I don't doubt, but she hasn't had any other reads/mafia hunting to go off of, aside from a quick reactionary suspicion of Dom.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 4]

Oh god, I lost track of time this weekend and it has been relaxing, although busy as crap, and I hope to god I'm not last to vote if this is the 'splodey planet (I completely forgot about that dynamic this afternoon - doh!). I read the last five pages but have failed to go back and really look at what I meant to before I made my "placeholder" post. Enrique's got a crapload of votes and supposedly a poisoning. Last I knew of him, he sounded genuine, but something seems to have turned several against him, which I'm going to imagine is for very good reason with this much against him. I'd like to take more time to read back and figure it out.

So, since that seems to be a done deal, I'll vote where my mind was last when I had time to really think and put my thoughts out in a logical fashion (AKA no work to worry about :P ) : Glorfindel was on my list after bcornett, so while I know this particular vote won't do anything as far as lynching, it'll at least force me to think about my vote later and defend if necessary and go back and read, if that makes any sense. It makes sense in my head, and that's all that counts for now.

I am still feeling like crap and am I legit trying to catch up/keep up (mostly today - yesterday was a stay-at-home-from-work-and-sleep day, and today probably should've been that, too), but my sick-brain, combined with work, is not allowing me to play and analyze at the level I wish to play at. My apologies. While I do get concerned, as others have mentioned in my short read, about bandwagons, and what appears to be a bandwagon on Simon, it does look pretty damning to break two ties that were both for Hutts. Eloh makes a good point about Simon playing on his own and maybe not voting the way he has if a team were coaching him, but someone else made a point that having BTSC doesn't necessarily mean there is coaching involved. Anyway, sorry Simon, but the voting evidence points in your direction, so my vote goes there today.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm about to eat something and find out if this feeling in my stomach is hunger or sick-nausea, and then curl back up into a ball on the couch. Don't stay tuned; it may not be pretty. I hope to be back at optimal capacity soon.

Errr, well, I did have some suspicion of Roxy in the first place for having what appeared to be less contribution, more...what's the word? Not having as strong, backed up opinions of players in the thread that I'm used to? More just arguing with other players. I feel bad since she's not had a good time playing this game, but she essentially baddie-outed herself, so I'll go ahead and vote there since, to be honest, that's easy for me today.

When you get the chance I'd like to hear your thoughts on MP, Space, and Dom please.
I'd like to go into more detail later on (gosh, I keep saying that and almost never producing, but I'm going to try), but I'll at least share my current gut thoughts from this last skim and what I intensely read last (which was ages ago, but better than nothing).

MP scares me, and he's scaring me more now because I'm leaning civ on him and he tricks me. I'm also wary of people who say they read me as civ, because in the last couple of games where the baddies kicked my civ butt, they've buddied up to me in this manner (I'm thinking Angry Birds in particular). However, MP wasn't playing any of those. I said I was feeling wary of him much earlier, and because I feel good about him now, I think I should definitely look at him more closely like I promised before, if that makes sense :P

Spacedaisy replaced Glorfindel, right? I got that from the last five pages or so reading, so it seems I need to look back and see what went on there. I know Glorfindel was after me for voting him a few cycles back, apparently because I came in "out of nowhere" and voted him, but I had suspicion of him on the previous day when I voted bcornett; I just didn't explain it eloquently, at all. I'd like to look back more closely and see if my opinion remains the same, but last I checked and felt, I thought he (and now she) was a baddie.

Dom is being odd in this game, but his lack of participation/focus (?) perhaps can be attributed at least partially to a rather intense A World Reborn game. Still, from what I've read and what MP pulled out for him, it doesn't read like the civ Dom I'm used to. Again, more intense study needed.

Okay, stopping now because my groceries have been sitting on the counter for over an hour, and placing my vote. I may actually be around tonight (with beer, yay!) for real-time playing :) also cookie baking because cookies :noble:

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 7]

Woo hoo, I have a little bit of time tonight (and I'm not sure how much time I'll have tomorrow, as I may be celebrating my dad's birthday then or Wednesday), so I figured I'd check in for commentary and a placeholder post.

The more I ponder it, the more I'm flip-flopping on how good I find the points being made about MP today to be. On the one hand, I've been having an (admittedly) unfounded suspicion of him because I feel good about him, so I'm drawn to anything that makes me see otherwise. I'm especially drawn to points about how he has made rainbow lists and has been able to catch up but not to make any strong cases (or cases at all). This, to me, makes me think he could be attempting to look like he's contributing without actually contributing much.

BUT I feel for the dude with the workload, and I'm in the same boat, except I'm not known for my high posting and making enormous cases (although I'm known to do so every once in the while  ). I want to contribute more, and I do my best to keep up, but it's often choosing between keeping up sufficiently and being able to vote consciously without making a case of your own, or reading in a half-assed manner and creating half-assed cases. And if I know him well, he would choose the former.

Now, the other point that makes me think is about Roxy's last comment about catching a baddie if we vote her. We (or at least I) took it at face value, but sig's point about our catching a baddie after the fact is intriguing. However, her tone and the unfortunate way she left doesn't make me think she was trying to help the game along, but to get herself out of it as quickly as possible without replacement. That's where I'm leaning on the matter, but I'm still interested in any further developments on this point from other people's read-throughs. If the last comment is to be taken as a helpful hint (seeing as she was the tracker), as it was pointed out by MP, it could be any number of people she marked as bad (which was a lot, and a lot without explanation). Soooo...

Again, I'm flip-flopping. It would seem from talking it out with myself that I'm still thinking MP is civ from gut feelings, but gahhhh he's tricked me so many times. But also, it seems perhaps...convenient that suspicion (and supposed bribery!) comes at the time when he said he'd be totally out of commission, and he's been saying it for days? So...again, gonna lean civ, but looking out for further development on this case.

This is one of those times I really wish I had more time to dedicate to checking vote records and comments of people hiding in the shadows, because we really have been going after people in the spotlight, with mixed success. I'll do my best, but I've already taken what time I had tonight to make this post and analyze my thoughts. If I have time tomorrow evening (if dinner is Wednesday instead), then I will do my best to do my own mini-investigations. Anyway, hope you enjoyed Blooper thought time.

And I just realized I made no suspicions. Dammit. I've used up all my time :faint: I'll try that again later. For the sake of at least saying something, even if I'm just repeating myself, I said I'd like to go back and look at Glorfindel/Daisy, so that will be first on my agenda should I find the time. There. Done. Leaving. Bye.

Linki - Just kidding - I gotta make this post Endor I'll never get to bed :P :drums:

...I'm going, I'm going.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 7]

Oh my god, there is so much to read and so much craziness, and on the day I'm going out for dinner when the poll ends...UGHHHH

I have to leave in 10 minutes. I just spent 20 minutes catching up with the last six pages that appeared after I posted last night, and tabbed what I wanted to comment on.

First, I must address this, because it bugs me when the facts aren't straight:
MacDougall wrote:It's also worth noting that there were a lot of no votes on day 1.

Floyd
Banana
Me
Mishi
Luke
Bubbles
Wilgy
Canucklehead
Savage
Niju
Sorsha

You might remember that I was burned with posting in Limericks for day 2. Epignosis made no doubt that it was for not voting, and yet I don't recall a single other player besides Metalmarsh posting a limerick on day 2. If anyone is interested it might be worth looking to see if any of these other players posted on day 2 at all. Being so disheartened by having to post in limericks to the point of not posting at all could be a scum tell if it comes from a player who was posting volumes either side of having to do so.
I have not missed a vote in this game, sir.
Canucklehead wrote:Obvious attempt to distance from Hutt team by team/self-targeting is obvious.
In regards to zebra's weirdness/curse. Epi doesn't usually allow self-targeting, but perhaps DH does? Are you saying she physically self-targeted, or is pretending to be cursed intermittently? Reading back on the rules, it doesn't say anything about self-targeting. Hosts, do you allow self-targeting in this game? Even though this "curse" looks shady, my vote won't go to zebra. Don't think she's bad.

I was able to read Daisy's posts, and meant to re-read Glorfindel's (I'm skimming them now). Daisy is hard to read because it's mostly her catching up and discussing subbing in (or the tone reads like that, I should say, and she always reads good to me. I don't play with her often). I felt suspicious of him because he kept saying things like he'd be suspicious of someone, but wouldn't vote them "on principle," which...makes no sense in mafia. Like you're trying to be two things at once. That was one the later issues. Also, calling me out for supposedly voting him without reason (which is wrong - I never vote without a reason, and I explained, although vaguely, why I thought he was suspicious on the bcornett vote day), then doing exactly that and voting me with no explanation, but a promise of one later on (the explanation being that I voted him with no reason :suspish: ) This is just...shady as hell.
Dom wrote:How many of you would classify baddie hunting MP as emotionally manipulative?
Striking out the correction Dom made later :P I would I would! I see the position you're in, MP, but you do look floundery, and very reminiscent of your performance in Roger Rabbit, and you do get more emotional when you're going down (but, as I recall, in either alignment). You have many a vote against you. I'm flip-flopping on you, whereas I haven't really flip-flopped on Glorfindel/Daisy. I'm sticking with my last post and considering you good.

I gotta go. I'm voting GlorDaisy. Buh bye.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 8]

I have procrastinated and skimmed the pages I've missed, and reading through the last three pages, I'm upset I haven't been here :pout: I want to sing Christmas carols!

I'm voting GlorfinDaisy again, because my opinion hasn't changed and I like to make things...interesting :shifty: (Also I want to watch Inside Out in peace because I've had it since Monday and it's now Friday and I don't feel like thoroughly reading ten pages. That's the god's truth and I'm sorry if that makes anyone salty).

I may be back with beer later. Yay weekend!

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 9]

Catching up (story of my life). I apologize for my disengaged/rather lazy playing lately, as I'm getting things finished and settled for the end of the year at work and prepping for the beginning of my break, which I kinda knew would happen if I played a game at this time of the year. This means, unfortunately, that I'll probably have the same level of involvement/engagement in the days to come, if not less. But I'll still hang in here as much as I can, and try to give advanced warning if I'll be absent.

Anyway, reading through quickly. I'll start by saying good job catching that slippery snake MP, and that I'm surprised to see who's up on the chopping block, but then again, I've missed a lot. Stand by.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 9]

Okay, I now know why zebra's being voted, and I suppose the reason there aren't more votes is because she doesn't kill tonight? I've never played a game like this before. I understand what people are doing (although I'm not caught up enough yet to see why Bullzeye is being suspected as Empire, so keep standing by), but...still? Voting for someone being speculated as a baddie versus voting an outed baddie? And Mac just said in linki that he wants Bullz to defend himself to get less votes than an outed baddie?

This game is weird AF. I'll continue reading now.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 9]

I'm sorry; I know there's more to read and I'm finishing early and I see the partial-logic behind leaving zebra, a confirmed Hutt, alone, and I get Mac's points about Bullzeye (it IS weird to first say lynch zebra, then not lynch zebra and look elsewhere, and flip-flop around like that), but...it's still no confirmed baddie. It's highly suspicious, but I'd rather have a baddie dead and less possibility of kills than vote on speculation and possibly kill a civ. Also I want to make more Christmas sweets, and truffles are next on the list :P

I can't not vote for a baddie. It's nonsense. When I was on the baddie team in Biblical, we tried this same ploy with a resurrected teammate, except we tried to spread fear about lynching her again (it was absolute BS, and we nearly pulled it off). This is too similar - not saying the case against Bullzeye is absolute BS, but, and I repeat myself, I want to get a baddie. So, voting zebra.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 10]

With my skim read-through, I'm surprised GlorfinDaisy has fewer votes. I've got many, many a thing to do tonight, and that includes making a trip to two stores before going to dinner at 7, so I'm gonna vote in that direction for reasons previously stated like three days ago. I don't think Daisy would have any problem bussing MP :P

Sorry that's such a short explanation, but I gotta go!

Also, my participation, however slim it has been, will be greatly, GREATLY reduced over the course of the next few days due to travel and visiting :) so a quiet Blooper will likely be a silent Blooper over that period. You have been notified.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 11]

Here I am, briefly! I skimmed what was said since I last posted, and...not much to read, thankfully and not so thankfully. I guess. I still think Glorfindaisy is bad, so voting there.

K going back underwater. Bloop bloop.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Night 12]

Damn! I'm usually good about voting, even when swamped, so my apologies for missing it like a dunce :( Would've either voted Bubbles (out of laziness from being busy) or Daisy again. Perhaps I'll be conscientious and use the extra Christmas time to catch up with the thread, since my family has a pretty low-key Christmas.

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!

I'm going to vote niju cuz eff it, one of the lurkers has to be bad.

Or vote Mac.
 That was a poor decision. I'm no lurker - just preoccupied. Here's me with some free time!

I don't want to vote Mac. I've had good feelings about him for the majority, if not the whole game. I don't want to vote Russ. I don't want to vote myself. I am willing to vote wherever is needed to keep those lynchings clear. How poisoned are you, Mac? I haven't been keeping up with the math.

Anyway, I'm traveling today and doing busy things, but I'll be able to check in via phone (and possibly computer) later on, so I'll hold my vote for now. Still leaning Daisy, but again, I'd like to actually help out/have my vote count more than it has the last couple of rounds.

Boo for lynching Mac! Boo for killing Russ  :fist:

Everyone looks bad, everyone claims the other is bad, and everyone claims they're good except Wilgy. I let myself be put in this position by procrastinating. Let's finish this and see what happens. Voting Matt.

Awesome game, hosts and players! This was a fabulous role for me at this time of year, and my teammates were extra awesome :D

It was fun coming up with items, and even more fun coming up with duds :feb: I'm curious as to who bought our lovely wares.
