I'm going to do the same thing. If there is a point in the season where they are likely to score a ton of runs, I think it will be the first week. Their offense has been clicking more than I expected this spring training.

Also G-Man, I don't know if this is too much of a hassle. I would suggest you update the Week in the thread title similar to how mafia games are updated each day/night phase. But only do it if you think it will help you. I don't mean to tell you what to do. :P

Is the pre-season really a good indicator of how they'll do early on in the season? I mean, does it make sense to go with a team that was strong in the pre-season for Week 1 or should I go for a team playing against teams that sucked in the pre-season during Week 1? I know nothing about this stuff.

Spring Training is historically a very poor indicator of how a team will fare during the regular season. At least, that's what I hear from the baseball people I know who I like and are smarter about these things than I am.

So what the hell do I know? :P

But Week 1 is all I care about, so Cincinnati Reds it is.

Maybe a Thursday? Since most teams play 3-game series to start the week, Thursdays after those games have happened would split the week better.

I feel you. The Reds will sometimes play at 9:30 AM, and while I can easily see the results the day of, it's difficult to watch or follow along live sometimes.

That Reds pick for Week 1 is looking better and better. But maybe I'll wait to get too excited until after this weekend series against the Pirates.

I'll probably submit my Week 2 pick this weekend, and give the teams a couple more games to show what they're made of this year. One team I definitely won't be picking though is the San Diego Padres.

MP texted me and said he wanted the Padres next week. :P

Not really. The Reds had a stellar Week 1, but they're having an incredibly rough Week 2.

This early in the season, gut is almost the best way to make a pick.

I'll take the Chicago Cubs for Week 3.

I think so too. I noticed that they play the lowly Braves, as well as the Yankees next week.

Also, one of my strategies for picking thus far has been to pick teams that play 7 games during the week rather than having Thursday off. Fortunately, Boston falls into this category this week.

And despite their poor pitching, it appears they've managed to put up a lot of runs too.

That's been my secret strategy so far too but I keep picking the wrong max-games teams. The Brewers did pretty well for me though. At this rate, I need everyone ahead of me to have two bad weeks in a row for me to catch up.

I just realized how much separation there is between the top 10 and the bottom 3. That's insane!

But yes, I imagine such a trend like this won't stay the same. This is baseball after all.

But I opted to go SF, because they play in Cincinnati and then host the Rockies next week. Two bad pitching teams, and SF tends to rake against the Reds.
