Re: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
If it's not too late, I'm in! I've done fantasy football for awhile now, but never dipped into baseball or basketball like I've wanted to.

Re: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Might as well start out Week 1 strong.
I'm taking the Blue Jays.

Re: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Well technically, we don't have to use every team. There's only 27 weeks and 30 teams total, so you could go the entire season without using 3 of the teams.
I figure I might as well start with the #1 offense in baseball from last year and hope it hasn't changed much. :P

Re: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Spring Training is historically a very poor indicator of how a team will fare during the regular season. At least, that's what I hear from the baseball people I know who I like and are smarter about these things than I am.G-Man wrote:Is the pre-season really a good indicator of how they'll do early on in the season? I mean, does it make sense to go with a team that was strong in the pre-season for Week 1 or should I go for a team playing against teams that sucked in the pre-season during Week 1? I know nothing about this stuff.Metalmarsh89 wrote:I'm going to do the same thing. If there is a point in the season where they are likely to score a ton of runs, I think it will be the first week. Their offense has been clicking more than I expected this spring training.JaggedJimmyJay wrote:Cincinnati Reds week one please.
Just getting them out of the way.
Cincinnati Reds for me.
Also G-Man, I don't know if this is too much of a hassle. I would suggest you update the Week in the thread title similar to how mafia games are updated each day/night phase. But only do it if you think it will help you. I don't mean to tell you what to do. :P
So what the hell do I know? :P

Re: WEEK 1: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
How frequently are you going to update this? Will you ever do it in the middle of the week, or will you wait until the end of each week to post any changes in the standings?

Exactly. Anytime the Reds have a West Coast trip, I'm sometimes up until 1:30 watching baseball. It just sucks the next day at work is all.Sloonei wrote:Oh yeah, sometimes the Sox play at 10, so I... Uh, I stay up til 1 watching baseball

I second this motion. A score of zero seems like a suitable punishment.Metalmarsh89 wrote:S~V~S is on steroids. She shouldn't get any credit for Week 1.

Re: WEEK 1: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
1) ERA is not a very good statistic in examining pitcher quality. Sabermetrics' stats like FIP and xFIP are generally a better indicator.G-Man wrote:Alright you baseball people- is it even worth looking at stats yet in helping me pick? Is ERA a even useful this early in the season? I've made two missteps now and I'd like to avoid a three-peat.
2) For this season as a whole, it's probably too early to be looking at most statistics as reliable. Just not a large enough sample size yet. Once we get through June, that usually starts to solidify a bit better.

Re: WEEK 1: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Also, I think I'm just going to start picking teams that play the Reds every week. The Cubs series made me realize just how bad this team could potentially be this year.
The Braves need to win a few games at some point though. We need to start getting competitive for the #1 pick for next year at some point!

Oh absolutely. They're destroying everyone and everything in their path so far. It's like some kind of Scorched Earth policy for baseball.Metalmarsh89 wrote:The Cubs are also an incredibly talented team. :Pbirdwithteeth11 wrote:Also, I think I'm just going to start picking teams that play the Reds every week. Re: WEEK 1: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
If you really want to dig deep into the numbers side of baseball, I tend to read Fangraphs on an almost daily basis this time of year. Fair warning: there is quite a bit of math involved, and it may take some time to learn about some of the main statistics they track, but we have an entire baseball season and several months to get through all of that. :P

Re: WEEK 1: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
If there was any doubt that the Reds were decent whatsoever, I give you tonight.
Watching the disparity between us and the Cubs so far (and I know it's only 1 month so extremely small sample size) just shows how many more years we have to go in our rebuild. And how long the Cubs are going to be this good.

I'm going to be checking this when I'm in a sportsbook in Vegas on Friday. May be using it to help make some futures bets in baseball on some Over/Unders.MovingPictures07 wrote:Anyone seen this MLB predictions generator by 538? Pretty neat.
I would very quickly take the under for the Reds to get to 70 wins, for starters. For about $50.

TONIGHT IS ALL YOUR FAULT! ALLLLLLLL YOURRRRRR FAULLLLLLT!!! :PMovingPictures07 wrote:I'll take the Cleveland Indians for week 7.
I just did the math. At this point, if our bullpen doesn't give up any more runs after that 3-run homer, their overall ERA will go down!
*Sobs into a lasagna*
Edit: Literally gave up another 2-run homer as I was typing this. Man, 2020 can't come soon enough for the Reds.

Re: WEEK 6: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Yep. This team honestly might not win 60 games. It's THAT bad.MovingPictures07 wrote:Yeah... what a terrible season thus far.
Also, we are currently down 3-1 to the Dodgers. If we lose tonight, it's the third series in a row we'll have been swept. I just looked and the franchise record for the longest losing streak for the Reds is 19 games.
If we lose tonight, I'm rooting for it to happen now. We're going to be laughably awful this year and next year for sure, so might as well root for something!
