Re: Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

Oh jeez, I didn't realize last night we were just diving right into Day 1. I am currently in a foreign land (i'll give you three guesses where that is based on my first post), but I'm flying home tonight, so I probably won't be too engaged with this game at least until then. I apologize for this, fellow mafia players.

What you doing there?
My girlfriend is a real authentic Canadian lady, and I'm visiting her for her birthday this week. She has been trying to drag me up there for a long time despite my very silly fear of heights. Yesterday that finally happened. I've had time to get caught up on everything this morning because, as an authentic lady, she spends over an hour getting herself ready in the morning.

The Luffy Dragon has been all over the place in agreeing with every plan or strategy that's been proposed in the thread. This has caught my eye. I'll put my first vote on Dragon D. Luffy until he explains why he's so easy to convince.

What are your own thoughts on the subject? And also, what are your thoughts on the game beyond what to do or not do about traitors?

The traitor thing could theoretically work if everyone votes for everyone in the first day but how would that even be noticed by the moderators? Would we need to post our votes in the thread for this to kick in?

The effect of this would eventually level the playing field of both families if it works out, but still a traitor in the family could be an advantage or a disadvantage that could turn the tide.

Logistics of setting and executing this up is improbable, so I think it won't work.

With the numbers between the families I think we should first focus on scumhunting.

I'll summarize:

Assumption: Don doesn't want to change votes often because that increases the probability of voting for the traitor.
I don't think this assumption holds any water, especially this early in the game. Given that he or she knows who their crew is and no one else, no matter if he or she sticks to one vote or hops back and forth several times, with no other considerations at this time, he or she is just as likely as not to choose a traitor.

I don't have a ton of considerations at this point. In my experience, the people who garner the most conversation early in the games either do so unwittingly (not really the case here) or are confident enough not to worry if the lynch votes pile up. Hmm.
Are you saying the Don(s) know their own team members? Or the traitor(s)? Because I don't think either is true, unless I missed something.

On top of that, there was no elaboration to his vote at all, and he hadn't even posted in the thread until I called him out on her vote. I feel like everything he has said since has been an excuse.

@agle I don't think the don knows who the capo/crew are. Just the consigliere. From what I gather it's all done via PM's to the family's host.
There has been too much focus on the don/traitor thing. That's a minor concern at best. I see no problem with ika's behavior as you described it.

No, I'm just saying that strategically there is no reason for the Don to either be restrained or wild with pre-official votes since it has no statistical significance at this point in the game. Luffy was suggesting that the Don would want to be more restrained in voting to avoid accidentally voting for the traitor and that everyone else should structure their unofficial votes accordingly, but I don't think that's really a valid concern.
So what did you mean by "he or she knows who their crew is and no one else"?

I agree with the rest of what you're saying. I think a player's voting habits will be determined by the player themselves, and not their role.

At day 1 I think we should be addressing even the minor concerns. I'm aware that in the long run the traitors are going to be triggered regardless, but even so, I think we should be trying to delay that risk for the safety of the dons.
I've got no problem with it being addressed, but I think the proposals being made in the thread were over-reactions to a very minor point and there is no need to continue discussing it beyond what has been said. So I should stop saying things about it now.

ika, for reasons I have previously stated.

Wilgy has also caught my eye for his abnormal posts. Someone called him out on it before, but the 'oink's he is shoving into his posts are just really...weird. My initial thoughts were that he is one of the capo/crew and his mission is to present himself as scum in his posts, but I need to dwell on that further. At this point it is a leaning town read, but I am also really confused by him.
Wilgy will never not be confusing, this is normal. It doesn't say anything about his alignment, so I'm in the same boat as you.

In other news, I think it's transcendent that we are having the Voting a Non-Participant discussion again, and on my first day back!. Historically, I am very fond of this tactic (that is, in the absence of anything meatier -we've certainly had meat in the room on day 1, so to speak).
This post just caught my eye. I acknowledge that Mongoose has expressed some pretty legitimate reasons to not be active thus far, but when a player goes out of their way to express both of the thoughts expressed in the bottom paragraph, and then doesn't provide the thread with any meat herself, I can't help but see it as a player who is potentially trying to fluff up their own posts by spouting pro-town sentiments without actually contributing anything to the townie cause. Or the family cause. or whatever.
Putting my vote on Mongoose and then passing out.

Reactoins, reads, what they say. I mean theres like endless reasons to ask it in general. To undertsand ym you first need to knwo i need a person i can talk to and trust. silver is the only person here i knwo and i can read acurately. So if shes scum i push her hard to get her lynched. The reads I'm most interested in here are mongoose, SVS, and myself. Epi has said Mongoose doesnwhat she's done so far in every game, so I guess other familiar players might also express that. But I've seen nothing remotely definitive from SVS. And then me because I'm always interested in myself. That guy's really something.

I've got no problem with a player sharing town reads, as I always say that town reads are just as important as scum reads in this game, but for a player to come out with that many town reads before any scum reads certainly is unusual.

Didn't understand this, so went and checked the roles. I figure what you mean is that the don only knows who the consigliere is. It looks like the consigliere has btsc with the don, but neither know who the capo/crew are. Perhaps the don is able to invent a mission to figure it out, though?
This would be my guess. Wow this was a lot of talking for a no day zero day one.

I hadn't bothered reading much of the thread. I've just sat down to do my first read through now. I am getting quite a few non-null reads. Unless something happens to change my mind, I won't be voting for LC, DDL, sloonei, mongoose, epi, SVS or silverwolf. I don't really have much in the way of pings yet, but I'll see where I'm at when I'm caught up.

I will do my best. Usually Day Ones are quiet without a Day Zero since we never developed things like RVS since we had unchangeable votes until more recently.

I am just responding to the last few posts (one of which conveniently mentioned me) and plan to read back. Anything you specifically wish me to comment on, or is this a generalization? Although looking at the avatars, for the most part, with a few notable exceptions, *most* of the talking seems to be non-natives, so why did you single me out for an opinion?

Linki,and why is that, Wilgy?
oh, sorry I wasn't looking for anythint specifically from you. I was trying to get Golden to explain his read on you. But I look forward to hearing any thoughts you have about anything.

He could be building those reads along the whole phase. Not that unlikely.

But the way he presented them remind me a lot of when I'm trying to look like I have reads when I'm just making shit up.
Yes, I need to see how his reads develop before I can make a judgment.

But also I got more of "look like I have reads when I'm just making shit up" vibe from a couple of Diiny's larger posts. What do you think of him? I apologize if you've already shared your thoughts and I simply missed it.

I dunno. He is very pro-active, chasing players around and forcing answers from them. His reads have mostly been people who were suspected by others before though, so he could be sheeping. Also some votes seemed forced. But some players just have an aggressive style, so that could mean nothing.
This is my biggest concern as well. I didn't feel like he brought anything new to the table in any of his big posts. I'm not ready to put a vote on him yet, and I've played enough games with diiny to know what he's capable of as a townie, but it's something I'm keeping an eye on. I've seen him start off like this and then turn it into a genuine supertown effort a few days later.

I am going to drop a vote on Gleam for now, he made a lot of assumptions based on incorrect role reads, then backtracked them, and if you cancel all that out, he made a lot of posts comparative to others at this early stage, but did not say much.
I am also considering putting a vote on Gleam for similar reasons.
I was also pinged by Diiny, specifically where he says Goldens post content =/= what research led him to expect. Research? What kind of research? Has he done this research on other people, or just Golden? To me this kind of comment reads as "research = told by BTSC partner". But we have civ BTS in this game, and I don't want to drop a third vote on the guy for a weak ping. Those who know him, is this kind of research something Diiny typically does?
Diiny wrote:Reading back, I'll also extend that question to Golden, who posted a lot about the setup/plan but not much about players which research shows is a tad out of character.
I think by "research" Diiny just means "past experience". He's played with Golden a number of times, both here and on RYM, so he seems to just be noting something that he's marked as a change in Golden's character. I can't say I know exactly what he means though, I don't remember Golden ever being opposed to discussing the setup and mechanics of a game.

Fair deal, and I understand the thought process behind this strategy.

If I forced you to name a suspect from the pool of active players, who would you choose?

Define active. I'm not suspicious of anyone specifically, but if I had to pick 2 people, it would be Tranq' and agleaminranks for her backtracking she exhibited earlier.
Active (adj.): Used to describe every player who you would not consider a low-poster.

Re: Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

@ SVS: RYM games aren't vanilla by any means, but so far in my experience on the Syndicate you guys tend to be a bit more creative than we do with roles and things. Plus most of our games have closed setups, so no one knows what's in the game, and speculation can be dangerous at that point. But we still do talk about those things fairly often. Like I said, I'm not entirely sure what Diiny was referring to there.

This looks somewhat sheepish to me.

Why does typing mistakes and then apologising for it indicate baddie alignment? Chain I would like you to explain too. I see nothing scummy in LC´s behavior so far.
I think chain is referring to his own typing error here, not Long Con's.
But yes, I would also like to know what he sees in Long Con.

I get good vibes from you all. SVS willingness to try Wilgy's plan in particular felt civvish SVS to me, I don't know Mongoose or Silverwolf at all so with the pair of them it is all tone. You, I like the effort you are putting in despite being in Canada, it reminds me of civ Sloonei. Although I've been fooled into defending you hard before (Watchmen :sigh: )
I am back in America now, unfortunately. I am willing to take everyone else's word for it when they say Mongoose's behavior is ordinary so far, but I don't think "ordinary" means the same as townie/civ. I'd like to put my vote elsewhere but I'm struggling to come up with a better option.
