Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Two

@ SVS

Your mission this morning, should you choose to accept it is to send Kat and Hot Dog on a sortie at 5:49am EST. If you choose to continue our original checkerboard pattern, go with sector B2.

You also have many other sector options. Take a look at the grid below, you may choose a random sector that tickles or fancy, or start a diagonal off one of the other blue sectors.

A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6
B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 B6
C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 C6
D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 D6
E1 E2 E3 E4 E5 E6
F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Two

Replying as I catch up...

@ LoRab, Re Final 5 - I'd love for others who watch the show to chime in with their thoughts too on this. My stance on the Final 5 is this: In the show (I'll try to avoid spoilers as best I can) there were some humans who were high ranking, well trusted members of the human race. Some had worked together for decades, and were basically family, after being through so much together. Some of these beloved humans later find out they were Cylons. IIRC, none of them betrayed the human race or cause. (That one I'll have to review, but I'm pretty sure that is true.) They each had a decision to make, though. Fight with the bad Cylons, or fight with their human comrades. They chose to fight with their human comrades.

So my guess is that those humans who will become the Final 5 in this game (which I'm guessing may be an event triggered by something that happens in thread?) will also have a choice. They may be able to decide to join the bad Cylons, or stick with the humans.

I want to read more on the wiki when I have time, just to remind me of some of the nuances. As Rico said, as the show progressed it became extremely nuanced, and became much harder to label everyone bad or good. Though some of the Cylons remained evil throughout. At one point, there was heated disagreement between the Cylons themselves as to what direction to take, as well.

The only way I would have done either of those things would be if I were convinced that neither Metalmarsh nor anyone else was there to do it on time... and I would have done the next scheduled square.

So, Metalmarsh went off the schedule and voted for E3 without notice. Indiglo, Scotty, Ricochet, sig, I am interested to know what you think of that, since the four of you lost your cool a little when I went off the expected plan.

Thank you early bird S~V~S for hitting up that 5:49am timeslot so awesomely. Who is up for 11:49, in exactly two and a half hours?
How I feel about Marmot's square choice should be patently obvious, after I told him "BOSS SORTIE SENDING MARMOT". It was awesome, and I loved his reasoning for choosing that sector. He was scheduled to cover a sortie, and he covered it perfectly.

Indi, can you clarify, when you read this, if MM's E3 check was part of a pattern established earlier or random do-what-I-want tier?
It was Marmot choosing a random square, iirc. By that time, we had discussed so many options, and no one wanted to only stick with the straight checkerboarding, for fear that was a manipulation. So my thinking was we'd come to a consensus on another pattern - like diagonals, for example. Marmot stuck to the original checkerboard pattern, just did a rando sector on it.

It didn't feel like dicking around to me, so I'm cool with it. Did it bother you? Do you think it would be better for us to stick to a definite pattern? (Such as diagonals along the checkerboard?)

Could that be the final 5? Or would it make sense for there to be 2 cylon mafia groupings?
I don't know if a two-team mafia is possible in this game, based on show context, but I'm leaning on doubting that. The Final Five in the show split into four cylons that continued to help the human race and 1 Cylon that embraced being a Cylon against humans. That's hardly probable material for a second mafia team, to bloom out of nowhere, at least imo.
I appreciate this Final 5 talk. 4:1 ratio is pretty good.

The comparison of your reaction to my action compared to MM: you value WHO is doing it more than when or where.
I value not dicking around. :|

I value the teamwork we have created with our schedule. It allows us to see who is going to do what, and then analyze how they handle their volunteer assignment.

Also, you went rogue, and went totally OFF the checkerboard pattern. Marmot stayed on the checkerboard pattern.

It feels to me at this point you are doing this to provoke a reaction out of me. So this will likely be my final reply on the matter. If you, as you have now said, don't plan on dicking up our schedule again, it's a moot point anyway - which is why I haven't been harping on it. But you sure have. If you do dick up the schedule again, I will personally view it as a hostile act against the human race and will react accordingly.

Well done SVS! And yes, good point. This was Drumbeats original, checkerboard pattern. And I think folks are also missing the fact that eventually ALL sectors will be searched, this was just a way to fan out and cover as much ground as possible quickly and efficiently. (Though I'm still open to other ideas.)

Are the people who hated Drums checkerboard plan due to fear of manipulation still feeling that way now? (This may already be answered in the thread, so apologies if it is, I'll get there.)

As of this point in time I believe Epi to be a town friendly cylon. I'm having difficulty with suspicions though. Nobody is standing out. I'm going to read nutella to see if I can buy JJJ's case. Besides JJJ with nutella has anyone else got a strong feeling about anyone? (OA I saw your suspicion of LC and someone else - I'm going into your posts to refresh myself on the "why" of your suspicions.)
I'm leaving my current suspicion in my pocket until much closer to the vote. Want to gather more evidence before I present my case.
That's odd.

1. If you present at least a little bit of your case now, perhaps others will agree and you can help convince town to lynch whomever you think is scum.

2. That's a bit unfair to your suss, yes? Not giving them any time for rebuttal?

As of who I'm looking at, I dunno. I admit I've been knee deep thinking about the mechanics of this game, and I was ready to pull the trigger on Ika today before he was destroyed over night.

Rico, Indi, Long Con (I keep referring to these three, but if anyone else knows the lore of the show, speak up and I'll include you in these little questions as well) - Do you think it's possible that Boomer's role power could include appearing as Athena upon death? I want want want to believe Epi is Athena and civ, but I know in the show, both Boomer and Athena pretended to be the other at different points, so I'm not ruling this out as a possibility.

Ugh, the brain gets wrapped in circles, doesn't it? I think, just going by lore, I'd have to say yes, that's possible. I'm not sure I think it's probable in this particular game. But Golden is recreating the show so perfectly, possible is possible, though not probable to my mind. (If that makes sense.)

Matt wrote:For those of you who don't believe there can be a mafia consisting solely of humans...

I can. Don't know who the other members would be, but I can see Zarek and Felix headlining a human Mafia group, for sure.

If we're strictly following lore from the show, I'm rethinking my stance on a cylon/mafia mix team. Why? Because Number One, John, hates all humans, all of 'em.

Rico, Long Con, indiglo - Theories on other humans who could possibly be on a Zarek/Felix mafia?

indiglo - If I've missed it, sorry, but can you give a short list of susses and/or players you're feeling good about?

Linki - Yeah LC, I agree. I know I was the lone voice against your idea, but once you pointed out that the saved person wouldn't be announced, then I thought "well then why wouldn't Dee do that then?"

AND even if ika was human, that does not clear him from being mafia IMO. There are 29 players in this game, well enough for two separate mafia teams.

Short list of people I feel good about atm (in no particular order, and I haven't pulled up the player list, just going off the top of my head) - SW, Matt, SVS, Drums, Rico, Epi...

A few people I'm not sure on, and/or concerned about, or however you want to word it (but I don't necessarily think they're bad, I'm just more concerned about these people, if that makes sense) in no particular order - nutella, SD, JJJ

I'm just spit balling here too, so once I'm caught up, I can sit down and look at the player list and do this again. I'm pretty sure I've left at least 1 name off each list due to memory. :goofp:

Human mafia - wouldn't surprise me to find that Baltar has "different win cons" than other humans, if you will. Perhaps as someone else said, like an indy or such. I'll think more on this, but off the top of my head, I'd agree that I wouldn't expect there to be many. Zarek and Felix seem most likely, but again I'm happy to go down the role list and do a double check.

I do not think it's Battleship. I think the rez ship is in one sector alone. I think this because... these are sectors of space!! Like, big. Imagine a ship that's the size of our solar system - that's the kind of thing I would imagine taking up four squares. It's insane! The ship is a large ship that resides in a super-exponentially larger sector of space.

And yes, this is a game and these quasi-'laws of reality' don't have to apply. If Golden wanted it to be a Battleship game, then it's cool despite grinding at my sense of scale and reality.
This...actually makes sense. :ponder:

Makes me wonder if the checkerboard pattern starting from A1 was thunked up by a cylon that knows the ship isn't located in the underlined pattern, thus giving them more time to be invincible...

indiglo wrote:I believe Epi mentioned the possibility of JJJ casting a vote to save Rico... I'm not sure how I feel about that. But I definitely felt like JJJ was holding his vote to see where others voted. Which, many times, points to mafia.
Yes, I was holding my vote to see where others voted. I only get to vote once in this game, and I waited until it was time. In games with changeable votes, it's quite common for me to place late votes in the exact same manner -- except it will be a moved vote instead of my first vote. When I am unable to coordinate vote movement, that means I have to judge the tally based upon exactly how it stands and then make the one call I think is best under the circumstances. That's what I did.
Details - off the top of my head, you missed SD's explanation of her randomized vote, for example. (I can do an ISO if you want any further detailes.) The lack of carefulness is just so different from your P50 performance. Remember, that was my first introduction to you, and you were beyond impressive. You saw everything, caught every detail, then pressed to understand the context and nuances of the situation when said detail happened. Then, I see you read a post and not even absorb an important, basic detail and comment on it. Do you see why that might catch my eye?

I have also read your further post about that not being a fair comparison (your P50 performance). So I would ask players who know you more, and have played with you more - are we seeing a typical JJJ civ-performance here in your opinions?

Re "holding your vote" - in all fairness, I play non-changeable votes the same way. For some reason it didn't sit right when you did it, and I think it's because you don't look like P50 here.

It's like going to a ball game, falling in love with the cheerful, yet goofy mascot, and then seeing him after the game in the parking lot... with the head of his costume off, out there by his car smoking, drinking, spitting and cursing. Ya know? :haha: That cracks me up, and it's not really that extreme, I just want to explain where I'm coming from here. Does that make sense?

I had another thought about the Rezz Ships. What if they aren't actually anywhere. From time to time, phases may need to change in length for personal reasons. In cases where this happens, I will make the admirals revised jumping ability for that phase clear.

@ Scotty - yes, there are multiple Rezz Ships and a Rezz Hub in the lore. Due to the fact that I'm eating (some of the best pupusas my friend has ever made, I am so not even kidding, omg), and some general laziness, I'll share this link about the Resurrection Hub, rather than attempting to explain it in my own words. :noble:

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Two

I don't see why we shouldn't send them there. I'm happy to do F5 in approximately 2.5 hours.

@ Scotty - Oh, yeah, as for a fleet to help us find the Rezz Ships. On the show, there was a pretty big fleet of vipers and pilots. Originally, for example, Lee Adama and Starbuck were 2 of the hot shots on the squadron. Kat and Hot Dog came in much later towards the end of the series. So I think only having Kat and Hot Dog do sorties is just a game mechanic, in order to not make it sooooo easy for us to find them, and for us to also have to run a pretty high risk if/when we do find the ships.

This post actually reminded me of something I've been thinking about lately. For people that know the lore, what other things were important in the fight against the cylons that were evil in the show? The game seems to respond to what we say, so maybe if we keep saying these important ships/weapons/whathaveyou we can trigger more events like this to help us moving forward.

@ Matt, Rico, LC, Anybody else who knows lore
I have been thinking about this too.

For example, during the Cylon Civil War, the rebelling (pro-human) group of Cylons actually managed to help destroy the Rezz Hub. After that, no more Cylons could get rezzed. (OOOOOOH that'd be a good one to trigger.)

There is something relating to the Final 5 I've considered mentioning - regarding how they were triggered in the show. I'm wondering if I should mention it, to see if it gets triggered, or not. Does that make sense? Any thoughts?

Something else, and I want to hear more input on it. Look at our checkerboard for our sorties:

A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6
B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 B6
C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 C6
D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 D6
E1 E2 E3 E4 E5 E6
F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6

Had we stuck to our original checkerboard pattern, B2 would have been called on our 4th sortie. But, after LC intervened, we only got around to it on our 6th sortie. Not only did he change the sector called, he also got us off the checkerboard pattern idea by insinuating it was manipulative. It clearly was not, and the suggestion delayed the destruction of the Rezz Ship by 2 sorties, or 12 hours. Any thoughts on that? Does it still seem like good-natured mischief?

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Two

This is good discussion. I agree, sorties are scheduled for almost all day tomorrow, so shouldn't be much of a worry. We can now focus more on the lynch. I will attempt to make my last post for each evening or day the sortie schedule, so that the next sortie person (or any other player, really) can be aware of what's coming up next, and get a sub if necessary. That way it won't dominate any discussion.

I will continue stewing the names and reasons you have both mentioned so far. The only suck thing is that I won't be available a ton during the day tomorrow, but my addictive mafia nature will probably allow me to stay caught up anyway. I will double check the poll close time - I may have to vote a bit early as I may not be around at poll close. But by early I mean like 7 or 7:30 pm EST, not 10 in the morning.

I'm so super torn on JJJ. Sleeping on something like that sometimes helps me. If he's bad we need to be rid of him, but if he's good he could be a help, even if he seems to be functioning at 75% power. (No offense, of course.)

(Also, yes, the poll closes at 9:30 my time tomorrow. I may be home from my volunteer stuff by then, but I won't risk it. I'll vote before I leave, by 7 or 7:30 EST.)

Also, mega linki!!

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Two

OA - thank you for your input. I always value "old school" players input. (No offense intended, I mean that as a compliment.) I am still trying to suss LC at this point myself, and I find I don't disagree with much of what you said. The whole jumping in thing of his is still a bit of a sticking point with me too. The timing of it is strange, especially since we hit a Rezz Ship. And also his defense of the action has seemed flip floppy. And really hoping others will also chime in with input. I guess I am flippy floppy on him for the moment too, just like I am with JJJ.

I do so much want to be inspired. (Read that in a southern belle's accent, since that's the way I said it.)

I am absorbing what has been said, and will continue to try to do so the best of my ability before vote time. I am going to log off for the night now, and hope that sleeping on it will prove helpful.

In my next post, I'll post the upcoming sortie schedule.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Two

I look forward to reading LC's further response to JJJ's post. As of now, I think that's probably where my vote would go.

And if anyone else has thoughts on the LC matter, I'd want to hear them. The more info and input the better, it would seem.

Also,

@ SD - I don't see myself as "directing" or "in charge of" the sorties at all. Since I'm not handing out any assignments, or telling anyone what to do. I'm just trying to keep an organized list of who is willing to do it at which time, and what sector they've called, along with the results of said sector. I guess I just took it on because I was here when it started, and there were so many of us talking about what we should do, and how we should do it... my brain goes straight to lists, graphs and schedules. If anyone would prefer I not do it, or do it differently, I would be down for that.

G-Man, I am also nervous of nutella, and of course, LC.

Is there anything specific on Metalmarsh that gives you pause?

As for sorties - at this point, knowing Rezz Ships are 1x1, I agree that each volunteer could simply reason it out in their own head which sector they'd like to hit. It would be nice if each one would explain their reasoning for hitting that sector, but other than that, I don't think we need to overthink it at this point, unless and until we find out more details about movement, etc. of Rezz Ships. If this is agreeable to everyone, which it seems to be.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Two

The idea of a recruiting Cavil frightens me to no end. However, I would think, if we're going to think about that, maybe we should think about a recruiting D'Anna. Or a D'Anna who wants to get rid of certain other Cylons (like what happened the show). She kind of led another group of Cylons who disagreed with Cavil, no? Or maybe I'm remembering that wrong. I'll look into it further.

I hope that's not a thing, but maybe it is. Maybe it would be triggered by something... I have no idea. I just hope that's not a thing.
