It doesn't matter when the game is scheduled, only when it is played. Otherwise it will require more stat tracking than I'd like. Plus, this adds an element of intrigue to the season.Draconus wrote:My Week 2 team will be the Washington Nationals.
@G-Man: So how do you handle games that are postponed? Cleveland's final game with Boston yesterday was postponed. Will I get credit for any runs by Cleveland when they have their make up game?

Re: WEEK 1: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Well, I was hoping for slow and steady after the A's first few games but they stumbled today. I have no idea who to go with for next week. The naive answer is to go with whoever scored big this week but baseball probably doesn't work that way. Or does it? Maybe I'll go with whoever has the most games against the Padres.

Re: WEEK 1: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Time for the mid-week report!
S~V~S is benefiting from holding her nose and picking the Yankees for this week. She's got the top spot by four runs. There's a four-way tie for second thanks to the Cubs and Blue Jays. Houston isn't letting MP07 down too much and the same can be said for Russ and the White Sox. Another four-way tie for 8th place and both the 2015 World Series teams (Mets and Royals) are off to s slow start compared to everyone else.
1. (19 runs) S~V~S- NEW YORK YANKEES
2. (15 runs) birdwithteeth11- TORONTO BLUE JAYS
2. (15 runs) Epignosis- TORONTO BLUE JAYS
2. (15 runs) Sloonei- CHICAGO CUBS
2. (15 runs) Spacedaisy- CHICAGO CUBS
6. (11 runs) MovingPictures07- HOUSTON ASTROS
7. (10 runs) Russtifinko- CHICAGO WHITE SOX*
8. (9 runs) Draconus- CLEVELAND INDIANS*
8. (9 runs) G-Man- OAKLAND A'S
8. (9 runs) JaggedJimmyJay- CINCINNATI REDS
8. (9 runs) Metalmarsh89- CINCINNATI REDS
12. (5 runs) Turnip Head- NEW YORK METS*
13. (4 runs) AllAlongTheBoardwork- KANSAS CITY ROYALS*
Now for your weekly reminder to send me your next picks! Week 2 starts on Sunday, so I need your Week 2 team selections by midnight (EST) on Saturday, April 9th. Inside the spoiler tag below is a chart that will show who we've all picked so far to help you as the season goes along.
Just an FYI- my daughter is getting baptized at church this Sunday, so I may not get the Week 1 final scores posted until Sunday night or Monday morning.

Re: WEEK 1: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
I'm kind of annoyed that I picked a West Coast team for this first week. I keep wanting to see how the A's are doing but they don't start playing until I'm all but in bed.

Actually, having a mid-week update will help me remember to send out a reminder notice for everyone to make their picks for the next week. It's a win-win.Metalmarsh89 wrote:Maybe a Thursday? Since most teams play 3-game series to start the week, Thursdays after those games have happened would split the week better.G-Man wrote:I'll probably do a mid-week update. I wasn't expecting a mid-week report, but I'll gladly take it.

Okay, I have no idea which teams are any good but I saw Moneyball was available On Demand last night while looking for a movie to watch, so I'm picking the Oakland A's for Week 1.

Re: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Good to know. Do teams tend to stay consistent from year to year like in football and hockey or are there a lot of radical ups and downs from year to year?

Re: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Is the pre-season really a good indicator of how they'll do early on in the season? I mean, does it make sense to go with a team that was strong in the pre-season for Week 1 or should I go for a team playing against teams that sucked in the pre-season during Week 1? I know nothing about this stuff.Metalmarsh89 wrote:I'm going to do the same thing. If there is a point in the season where they are likely to score a ton of runs, I think it will be the first week. Their offense has been clicking more than I expected this spring training.JaggedJimmyJay wrote:Cincinnati Reds week one please.
Just getting them out of the way.
Cincinnati Reds for me.
Also G-Man, I don't know if this is too much of a hassle. I would suggest you update the Week in the thread title similar to how mafia games are updated each day/night phase. But only do it if you think it will help you. I don't mean to tell you what to do. :P
Also, great idea MM! I will add the week # at the beginning of the thread title every Sunday. Thanks for the idea!

Don't worry Draconus. I don't know much about baseball, so you're in good company. All you have to do is pick one team each week. No repeats. I'll send PM's out each week to remind everyone to pick a team.Draconus wrote:What the heck. I have no idea what I'm doing, but MP convinced me.

Re: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
I don't really have a set number in mind. Right now we only have six people. It's not like we're doing head-to-head matchups but it would be cool to have a few more people in the hunt to give us a little more variety.MovingPictures07 wrote:How many more players would be optimal? Re: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
The first regular season games are Sunday, April 3rd, so I'll need to close sign-ups by March 31st and get everyone's Week 1 picks by midnight April 2nd. That gives us an extra two weeks to round up a few more people.MovingPictures07 wrote:How much time do we have to find three more folks, i.e., when are we starting?

Re: EZ Fantasy Baseball 2016
Giving this thread a bump in the hopes of attracting a few more participants. Tell your friends!
Also, for those of you who actually follow baseball, I have a question- How good of an indicator is the preseason? Is it a legit way to predict which teams look strong early on or is it like the NFL's preseason, where the starters hardly play much and it serves mostly as a glorified tryout for rookies and minor leaguers?
