Chapter 1

This morning an old friend telephoned asking to meet with me for lunch in Manhattan. I hadn’t seen him in years and didn’t even know he was in town.

“It would be great to catch up,” I said.

“Catching up is all I seem to be doing these days,” he said and laughed. I laughed too, but I hadn’t any idea what he meant.

“Then you must be an old pro,” I said. We made arrangements to meet this afternoon, and after I changed, I got in my coupe and drove through the Valley of Ashes. I was prevented from passing through by a number of people, mostly policemen and press blocking the road.

It was a ghastly scene all right. Not only was the body hanging from the advertisement, but someone had removed the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg and replaced his glasses after the abstraction. I had to turn away.

When I did I overheard a policeman announce to no one in particular that this awful crime was committed by more than one person. What evidence brought him to this conclusion I cannot say. All I wanted to do was drive back to West Egg. I thought to telephone my friend and cancel our lunch, but of course he was already at the restaurant no doubt waiting for me. I left a message explaining what had happened, asking for forgiveness, and that suggested that we could reschedule when I had regained my appetite.

It is now Day 1. You have 48 hours to find those responsible for this abstraction.

Alright! Maybe I won't be lynched ot killed so soon this time. I haven't had much luck in games lately.

No Day 0. Diving right in. From the few who have posted so far, we should vote for boomslang. He seems like a suck-up -teacher's pet, if you will. :nicenod:

Elohcin instinctively avoided clever shrewd men and now I saw that this was because she felt safer on a plane where any divergence from a code would be thought impossible. She was incurably dishonest.

Eloh made a reasonable accusation too early on D1. She should be lynched.

Good point. We don't have many days. So why would I waste them postponing the lynch of a guy that I can't read? A guy who is purposefully lacking good contribution, and obscuring his alignment behind the veil of gimmicks?

I'd hate to waste more than one day on that.

You know, I've never actually had a martini! Thanks bloops <3

So I just had a metagame-y idea: Since info dumping and claiming are allowed, if we all use a "password" derived from our role name and posted them in thread early, a false role claim from mafia would be immediately be apparent.

Thoughts?

I hate the idea because the strategy seems cheap, and I don't think Mafia will have to worry about a small claim space. As we get to the late game, tactics like this become more important, but I always hate trying to break the game day 1.
That said, I won't fault anyone for doing it and I'll probably participate myself.

Ideas like this are the reason that claims are often discouraged. Mafia can make good fakeclaims if they know what they are doing, especially in a game without public roles. Plus, massclaims just make the game suck.

So this wouldn't be that useful, it would be unfun, and it would be a substitute for actual scumhunting. kthx but nothx

There was a slow pleasant movement in the air, scarcely a wind, promising a cool lovely day.
Before someone dies tonight...

Let's strike a little early. Wilgy, why are you town?

So I just had a metagame-y idea: Since info dumping and claiming are allowed, if we all use a "password" derived from our role name and posted them in thread early, a false role claim from mafia would be immediately be apparent.

Thoughts?

He probably gave fake claims.
Don't make me lynch you.

This would help baddies.
Assuming they have fake claims.

speedchuck wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2017 10:34 am Good point. We don't have many days. So why would I waste them postponing the lynch of a guy that I can't read? A guy who is purposefully lacking good contribution, and obscuring his alignment behind the veil of gimmicks?

I'd hate to waste more than one day on that.
