[SIGN-UPS] Pirate Mafia

#1

Post by Sloonei »

Ahoy Mateys! My name's Cap'n Sloonbeard, and if any of you salty lads wishes to join my crew, I welcome ye aboard here! She's a fine ship, who can hold up 15 of you lot, but we'll set sail in any weather!

I'll be borrowing MP's role matrix for this game. For reference, here it is:
Spoiler: show

Days/Nights will be 48/24 hour cycles.

I'll be acting as a pirate the whole time and I encourage you to too. Other than that this'll be a clean, straightforward mafia game.

Please re-vote, Quin. I accidentally goofed up the poll for a quick tweak and it deleted yours. I'll be Sloonei's shoulder parrot assistant host. :pirate:

Heists are more simplified. It's limited to just three power roles. What we used to do (and still do in Jobs) is basically what other Mafia community call role madness because every role is a power role. Since this is using Alex's matrix, it will work a lot like Seinfeld did. It's what's called closed set up. No one will be able to tell exactly what power roles (aside from your own if you have one anyway) are in the game so role claiming and fake role claiming, info dumping and false info dumping are all fair game. Otherwise it's mostly the same. 48/24 cycles. Votes will likely be changeable, though maybe Sloonei should confirm that.

Also another thing that is not working in this thread is quick reply. The box doesn't even appear. Not sure if that helps.

Our speed games are also role madness.

I think the technical definition is something like this:

- Generic game: Most roles are generic (have no abilities). I. e. Heists.
- Role mandess: most roles have at least one ability. E. e. Full games and speed games.

Also there is the flavor/vanilla definition.

- Flavor game: any game with a theme. I. e. Seinfield
- Vanilla: any game without a theme. I e... hard to find an example since 99% games in the Syndicate are themed. But Greater Idea is one that counts.

People tend to mistake vanilla and generic a lot tho. But I think this is the best definition.

Of course you don't understand it, I made a typo. It should say "vanilla is any game that is not themed". I wrote "game" instead of "themed".

Vanilla is any game that lacks a theme. Roles are just named after what they do: cop, doctor, vigilante. While in a themed game you have Luke Skywalker the cop, Han Solo the vigilante, Leia the Doctor (i e. for a Star Wars theme).

Generic game is any game where most roles have no abilities. I. e. all our Heist games. While role madness is a game where most roles have abilities. Like FUll and Speed games.

A game can be Vanilla generic, Vanilla Role Madness, Flavored Generic or Flavored Role Madness.

Most people do. But this tends to create some confusions. I recently played a vanilla role madness game and some guy who loved generics signed up for it then complained it wasn't vanilla. But it was.

He is a mostly stranger, but he's cool dude. Trust me. At least until the game starts then I make no promises as to my trustworthiness.

Also, we have always used "vanilla" to describe a role with no power. We have never used vanilla to describe a game.

And Kyle is hard to scare off.

Yeah dude I'm in. You had me at "no sockpuppets".

Are you someone I already know going by a different name or are you mostly a perceptive stranger?
A perceptive stranger. You seem to have predated me here, but that just makes me more excited to see you in action.

If I didn't want to read people explain things in paragraph form then I wouldn't be here on a forum for playing mafia. :p

Nice to meet you, Caio.

I've never seen this distinction made, but I appreciate that it exists.
I'll add it to my Mafia Dictionary.

It's mostly from Mafia Scum and also from this guy from NF who is addicted to mafia theory.

I'm a little jittery to start.

I haven't played mafia in 3-4 years and all the people I knew have probs evolved in that time gameplay-wise. Meanwhile this site has filled up with maybe hundreds of people I've never met before, it's exciting.

I look forward to the day there is a college course called Mafia Theory.

No, we still suck. Don't worry.

We're up to 7 players all of a sudden, so we're getting close. Hopefully this little burst of momentum tonight keeps up.

We have hundreds of people but almost everyone is retired.

Nice to have you though, we can try to liven this place up.
