Personally I am more excited about the eastern conference matchups because there are teams I like and teams I hate. I'm having a tough time deciding between Pens and Rangers because I like both, but as for the rest of that conference I'd like Montreal, Tampa Bay, NY Islanders. keys is rooting for my most despised team, Detroit. I think he likes to pick what will annoy me the most. For the western conference, I'd like Chicago, Anaheim, and Vancover to continue on. I do not care enough about St. Louis or Minnesota to have a preference there but if I had to I guess I'd go with the Wild. :shrug2:

I hope he also enjoys picking the most doomed team of all. :P

Good man. :D

I think Habs got a chance since they have Price and that pretty much automatically qualifies you as having a chance, they've struggled in other departments during the regular season though. They've really come out swinging these playoffs however so hopefully that continues. :D

I want my Habs to win!!! I am more familiar with Eastern conference teams as well . I told Dispor the other night that I wanted to see the Flames v Canucks since i'd never really seen them play before. I also said that i couldn't probably name a player on the Flames besides Gaudreau and on the Canucks i probably couldn't name anyone, but then i started spitting out names and i realized i knew more players than i thought!!! :haha:

Rangers are my hometown team. The Islanders are the local faves when we moved out to the Island when I was in my teens. I would like to see the Rangers go all the way, but I would be OK with the Islanders.

Here's who I am rooting for:

Obviously I want Montreal to go all the way. I've been following them for over 15 years now and everyone else in my family has got to see their team win a Cup but me.

I prefer Detroit to win over Tampa only because Detroit's got a shaky situation in net and I'd love for Montreal to exploit it in the second round.

Pittsburgh is my #2 team but I don't think they can win the series. The Pens would really have to turn things on to make a deep run. They were awful at the end of the season.

Islanders v. Caps is one of the least interesting possible matchups in the East for me. I think the only way to make a more blah matchup would be Columbus v. Carolina.

I don't care one way or another for St. Louis or Minnesota but I like supporting underdogs.

I'm okay with either Nashville or Chicago winning. I have a soft spot for Nashville. Their logo is cool but those yellow jerseys need to go!

Ever since the Ducks dropped the Mighty and adopted an ugly color scheme, they lost me. Plus I support the Jets because Atlanta sucked as a hockey city. It's now lost two teams to Canadian markets.

Vancouver is my least favorite Canadian team. In fact, they are the only Canadian team I actively cheer against (though the crybabies in Ottawa are dangerously close). Back in the days of Iginla & Kiprusoff, Calgary was my #3 team. Glad to see signs of life there again.

I want Montreal to win obviously, especially against the Sens because they're my least favourite team aside from Boston. I want Detroit to beat the Lightning because the Lightning are dangerous, we have the Wings' number and they look not very dangerous, and I hate the Lightning. Pittsburgh > Rangers just because Pittsburgh is an underdog and I like them a bit more. Isles over Caps is hard, but I'll go Isles I guess because my good buddy loves them.

For the West I want Minni over St. Louis. Preds over Blackhawks because I kinda wanna see the Preds make a deep run. Jets over Anaheim because they're arguably my second favourite team. Nucks and Flames I can't pick at all because I love both teams.

A guy walks into a sports bar and notices that the bartender has changed the names of several mixed drinks in honor of the NHL playoffs. After studying the list, he approaches the bar with a smirk.

"I'd like to order an Ovechkin," he declares.

Confused, the bartender looks at his lists of drinks. Not seeing this drink on his list, he turns to the man with a puzzled look on his face.

"What's an Ovechkin?" the bartender asks.

"It's really simple," the patron explains. "It's a white Russian with no cup!"

Here are my picks:
Eastern Conference
Montreal Canadiens vs. Tampa Bay Lighting
New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals

Western Conference
Minnesota Wild vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Anaheim Ducks vs. Calgary Flames

Montreal- obviously.

New York- tough call. I'd rather Montreal play Washington in Round 3 but I don't want Ovechkin and bandwagon Capitals fans getting any closer to a Cup.

Chicago- my mom's favorite team. Plus the Original Six factor is cool. Did you know that of all the possible Original Six matchups, every combination has occurred in the Cup Finals except Rangers v. Blackhawks?

Calgary- my old #3 team. Glad to see signs of life there again. I understand that Minnesota was a wild card but Calgary feels like the true Cinderella here.

Anybody following the Calder Cup playoffs in the AHL? I live 30 minutes from Hershey and have been a life-long Bears fan. I hope they can win another one to make their haul an even dozen.

I could probably elaborate on my picks more as well. :p

I started taking more of an interest in Montreal before the playoffs, and during even more since my favorites didn't make it. I've liked following them, and I liked discussing them with leggy so I want to see them continue on.

I am not a fan of Ovechkin (as everyone from irc knows) and am from NY state so that matchup was especially easy from me. My boss back in Rochester for about the past 8 years was a Rangers fan, so I have always paid special attention to how they were doing.

I chose Chicago because I used to live there. Also the last time I was in Canada I met a young Blackhawks fan. He was so cute and passionate about it that I have been paying extra attention to that team since.

Ducks reminds me of keys. :keys:

I'm more afraid of Tampa than any other team in the league by quite a wide margin, but I still think Montreal has a good chance. Picking them obvs. I vote a Caps upset over the Rangers, I think people underestimate them. Wild > Hawks, I'm thinking Dubnyk carries the Wild past them. Ducks > Flames, but hoping otherwise. I think the Flames have a chance to upset but I don't think they'll achieve it.

The Hawks have eliminated the wild the past two years, so they will probably have a bit of fight in them. This should be a very interesting matchup.

I agree about Tampa. They beat Montreal every single time they met in the regular season. Hopefully Price will stand on his head and bail the rest of his team out this round.

I am from Tampa and there is no representation here for the Lightning except for me. I will continue to cheer them on no matter who they play and no matter how many people are rooting for that other team. If they lose, they lose and I will congratulate the winner but until that time I will be rooting for them. :) There is no right and wrong here - only fans.

I have no beef with the Lightning. Give me 10 years of them being division rivals with the Habs and that may change. They're a team that I can easily cheer on. I loved watching Marty St. Louis back in his early days. If the Habs lose, I will easily support Tampa in the next round.

People can cheer on whoever they want. :) Growing up in western NY I know all about rooting for the unpopular - and in our case, losing - team! ("I'm glad I am a Bills/Sabres fan" said no one probably ever.)

Actually, I've been shopping around for a new favorite team this season. Instead of picking one, I have several new ones I am following now
