I would have participated if I wasn't already doing one fantasy football draft while on holiday. One can only push your wife so far!

Re: Syndicate Fantasy Football League 2015
Thanks TH. I use my draft order to run through a couple of mock drafts before the real draft. I understand though why you are waiting.

So I've had something come up that may conflict with the time of the draft on Saturday. What I want to know is: How much of a presence will I need to have during that time? Is it something I can do on my phone sporadically, or do I have to be here at my computer for a solid chunk of time?
Re: Syndicate Fantasy Football League 2015
You will either need to be present for about an hour, or you can set up an auto-draft where you rank the players in the order you would want them and, if available, you'll draft those players.MovingPictures07 wrote:So I've had something come up that may conflict with the time of the draft on Saturday. You can also draft from your phone if you're using the app; you would only need to be present every ~10ish minutes to make your pick.

Re: Syndicate Fantasy Football League 2015
I used to do fantasy football back in the day. Not enough time to keep up with individual players. Maybe next year I'll jump in. I'll be too busy with the baby mid-season this year.
I'm trying to run a simplified fantasy football game myself here. If I don't get at least 8 people to sign up though, I'll scrap it and try again next year.

Re: Syndicate Fantasy Football League 2015
I want to talk about something that I feel may become relevant as the season goes on. The default setting for the waiver wire system is that it resets pick priority every week according to the inverse of the current standings. I typically play with rolling waivers where it doesn't reset weekly. Does anyone have an opinion on this?
(For those unfamiliar, the waiver wire is how you acquire players after the draft is over. Players who have been recently dropped by a fantasy team, or who just played a game, will go on "waivers" for a few days and anyone can try to claim the player. The team with the highest waiver priority will get the player, and then you drop to the lowest waiver priority.
After a few days, if nobody claims the player off waivers, he becomes a "Free Agent" and whoever wants to add him can do so without using a waiver priority.)

Re: Syndicate Fantasy Football League 2015
TH I can't even tell you what system I've been playing under! I think it was the one where the rotation changes every week. But don't take my word on that. Since I never knew how it worked anyway I don't care if we go with the default or change it.

I'm so stoked that we were able to squeeze BDH in here. This is gonna be a hoot.
That means we're going to have 14 teams, so plan your draft strategy accordingly. I'll see if I can randomize the draft order soon so everyone knows what they're doing.

Off-topic:
Has anyone ever played any of those weekly fantasy games where you pay an entry fee, pick a team, and try to get like in the top 25%-50% of the players for a payout? Fan Duel is perhaps the most advertised, but Yahoo has rolled out their own version of this, and I think it might be something I would enjoy.
Any experience with this? How is it?

Re: Syndicate Fantasy Football League 2015
I've played on DraftKings before and had decent success. If it's something you're interested in, I'd start out with the 50/50's or Double Ups, where you beat half the field and double your money. It's tough to make money in the larger tournaments.Epignosis wrote:Off-topic:

It's just like drafting in a season long league; you want to find the undervalued guys and then use the extra salary space on more studs, and then pray those studs perform.

Re: Syndicate Fantasy Football League 2015
I should say that in 50-50's you want to try and draft the players that you think everyone else will have too. In the bigger tournaments you try and go against the grain more.
Re: Syndicate Fantasy Football League 2015
Obviously you're more likely to win in the DUs and 50/50s, but I find the bigger tournaments more appealing. I like the thrill of getting lucky that one time.
That's contrary to my approach to casinos, where I like the games with the lowest house edges and I tend to stay far away from slot machines.

I agree In that case the 50-50s are a good way to sustain your bankroll so that you can afford to keep enterting the ones with bigger prize pools.Epignosis wrote:Obviously you're more likely to win in the DUs and 50/50s, but I find the bigger tournaments more appealing. I suppose I favor the approach I do in casinos because I actually like sitting down and playing cards, and you can't do that if you run out of money really quickly (true story: I have never once lost money to a casino ), but these fantasy deals are one-shot affairs- no sitting at the table drinking cocktails and bantering with the other players.

Re: Syndicate Fantasy Football League 2015
wow i just tried a mock draft and it was depressing. And since there are no 14 team mock drafts i did a 12 and took position 10 and still it was depressing. Anybody else been playing with the mock draft? It's good even to just see what the draft board is going to look like on draft day and practice using the features.

Rico, I have done very little prep because I'm also getting ready to go out of town. I think there are several of us in that boat.
