I find Sorsha's response fair. She didn't say she read them as civilian, she said she had no reason to think they weren't. Useful pedantry. I disagree with Quin's assessment that she 'appeased' Jay.

Re: Phenon Mafia: Day 1 - And Into the Fire
To be fair the next two are us new folks. 8 posts is actually pretty good for me this early. I'm not a quiet player by any means but I'm also not a 800 post per game player like yourself.JaggedJimmyJay wrote:There are 159 posts in this thread, and 102 of them belong the last four players to make a post plus the host.
I will say generating day 1 reads is viewed as kind of pointless where I play. It's always a point of contention on whether or not day 1's should be as useless as it is and whether or not we should have more games start on Night 0. As a result I've gotten in the bad habit of just checking in once on Day 1 just to say hello.
Additionally it is interested in seeing the push on civ reads. Usually I'm trying to play the fine line between appearing town and scum. If you're too town you usually get killed early. I will see how this develops.
Was I the same as when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I am not the same, the next question is, Who in the world am I?

I guess that conditioning has made me not trust people who appear blatantly town (CIV). TBF I really only trust myself, and even the, just on special occasions.

VOTALS:
Scotty (1): JJJ
Fredwood (1): DrWilgy
Strawhenge (1): MM
Silver Lantern (1): Soneji
With 21 Alive, it takes 11 to Lynch, and 6 to soft lynch. Day 1 will end on 14th February, 2017 at 10pm EST, or in approx. 61 hours.
I will put out Vote totals about a couple times every 24 hours, but feel free to put an "unofficial count" post out for yourself if you want a visual representation

Re: Phenon Mafia: Day 1 - And Into the Fire
It's come to my attention that i should clarify on the day/night cycles and the polls for each.
So day 0 had you all voting for who would receive the Map, now the Day polls will be where you are going and the night polls are who will receive items.
Reminder that there is NO communication at night besides any BTSC. So take that into account during today's discussions

I don't take issue with Silver Lantern's defensiveness in response to Quin given that it was a misunderstanding anyway, and I also just generally think "defensiveness" isn't a very interesting tell in the first place. I feel like I see that accusation hurled constantly in Mafia and that it falls flat considerably more often than not. I don't have the hard numbers to prove that theory.
However, SL's content has otherwise been poll and map oriented, which is to say that the hunting content remains limited. That will need to change.

It could have been a PM slip true, but I'm not convinced that's the case. However, I don't see any reason why a mafia member would do this, I view it more as you trying to make it harder to narrow down the map holder and as of right now we have four(?) people claiming the map. Myself, MM, Golden, and JJJ.
So I wouldn't lynch vote you on that and I would find it suspicious for people to use that as a reason to vote for you.
Speaking of voting I should totally get an item tonight. Vote for me then.
Also I voted East since Philadelphia is on a east coast.

So far we only have two non-self-nominations for getting the map. Golden for Jay, speedchuck for Quin, and I'm already wary of both of them. But this is Day 0; I'm wary of everything.
My kneejerk is to say that Jay should have the map, because if he's town, I trust him to make good use of it. But that's kneejerk.
I can honestly say that I will likely only be able to get on once a day this weekend, so I shouldn't get the map. Not if I infer correctly that having it would require me to be on more than possible. (Again, that's only for this weekend, I'll be on more after that.)
I was going to make this joke. >:(Metalmarsh89 wrote:Can we just use Google-Maps instead?
Cause my bf has been visiting me this weekend. Didn't vote for anyone to get the map either, cause I didn't read the game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯JaggedJimmyJay wrote:Dyslexicon, in our scrimmage game last April you were a townie. 1. I think Sorsha's post about giving the map to a woman was entirely fluff. Not serious. A gimmick that is only saying 'We are women, so give it to us.' Not 'these girls and I are civ, so give it to us.'
2. Confirming civ-reads doesn't fit, because the post itself was a gimmick.

Hello, I'm back, and I'm skim-caught-up. I totally have the map as well. I'm seeing Candy Mountain to the East, so I'm going to vote there!
I think INH has the wrong idea about multi-map-claiming. I also think maybe claiming it at all was the wrong idea. If there's more items coming down the pipe, then what do y'all think of just having no one claim they got it. Wouldn't that be the best way to keep the recipient safe from nightkills? Just a thought. Maybe there's no need for elaborate deceptions if everyone just stays quiet about their item.
I assume there will be less "campaigning" for item votes as the game moves along - people will just vote for whoever they trust, since there will me content to trust by.

LC, the benefit is that it allows an item owner to get info into the thread.

Re: Phenon Mafia: Day 1 - And Into the Fire
Believe me I intend for that to change. It's the main reason I signed up to play on here. Now whether it will take me 2 games, 5 games, or 20 games to figure out, is another thing altogether. On HCRealms, it took me like a year to even figure out my play style and get a good grasp on things. I imagine because of my exposure already the learning curve will be rather shallow.JaggedJimmyJay wrote:I don't take issue with Silver Lantern's defensiveness in response to Quin given that it was a misunderstanding anyway, and I also just generally think "defensiveness" isn't a very interesting tell in the first place. I feel like I see that accusation hurled constantly in Mafia and that it falls flat considerably more often than not. I don't have the hard numbers to prove that theory.
However, SL's content has otherwise been poll and map oriented, which is to say that the hunting content remains limited. That will need to change.

I am expecting the mafia will not vote as a block, at least not early.
That brings to mind, are the poll results stored anywhere or do I need to do a screenshot to retain that info?

Not easily, but when you're on the reply screen, the last 50 posts or so will be below the box you type into, and you can use that to multiquote any of those.Silver Lantern wrote:Is there a way to multiquote?
Alternatively, use tabs and cut and paste (that's what I usually end up doing).

I feel like the reason is patently obvious: to control the conversation and influence where people go. I don't think it's too big of a leap to think that the mafia has info about certain destinations leading to certain effects. I could see at the very least one scummeister fake-claiming just to gain credibility.JaggedJimmyJay wrote:INH:
What do you suspect may have been the nefarious motivations for three people (now four) all claiming to have the map? In particular, what worries you about Golden's flip-flop in that discussion?

3 out of the 4 top posters have claimed to have special info, and we know only one is telling the truth. That's enough to make me start to sweat a little about some possible misleading.
As far as Golden's flippity-floppity is concerned, if he was being honest about the chain of events, I would have done the same thing. It's just not something I'm prepared to take at face value right off the bat, when he could be lying, once again, for credibility or because someone in BTSC advised him to change up his story.
I'm not calling it a slip-up, but it is as Golden said, a series of unfortunate events. I'm just open to the possibility of it being a fictional one.

Even when bad, I lie very very rarely. I don't create fictional stories. I heavily discourage teammates from doing it as well. Why? Because all it can do is lead to you getting caught in the lie. It's just a really poor strategy. There's a reason my baddie game is relatively successful, and it's because I leave as few threads to tug on as I possibly can.
Lies are reserved for things that can create a significant game advantage (and even then, you need to feel like its a safe lie), or for fake reads.
Having said that, I do see the advantage in lying to protect others from nks, as a civilian.

I have no problem with people lying in order to protect the person with the actual map.
The part I have a problem with is fake-claimers taking votes away from the person with the REAL map, causing us to go places we don't want to go.

MM, Golden, and 3J all want us to go to a different destination.
Only one of them will benefit the civilians (assuming whoever has the map is a civilian).
That's a problem.

I understand now, INH. I think that'll sort itself out well enough as players determine who they trust, because even in a world where only one person made this claim there'd be no objective reason to trust them -- their possession of the map and their alignment aren't necessary agreeable.
I have the map. Those who believe that I have the civilians' best interests at heart can follow my lead. Those that don't should say so and we can talk about that. Otherwise, we forge on.

I think Golden's intentions seem honest in this dynamic and I have no issue with him. Marmot's claim came first, and I appreciate the expedience of his cover. So my early attentions are largely to be directed elsewhere.
Scotty's reception of my poo fling was rather smarmy. That isn't ideal.
Dyslexicon's reception of my poo fling was to return fire. In terms of personality that's actually closer to what was seen in the scrimmage.
I am already getting the impression that there are some nigh-silent baddies happening in here.
