Correct. We must be effectively having a three way because I'm on with dh as well.Opt_Outside wrote:Golden and DH- I think we were slated to do btsc tonight?

To Wilgy - I'm glad to have you on the tribe, I'd just be *more* glad if I could reliably count on you as a known quantity.

I'm not surprised MP is gone. He needs to focus on his course work. Having said that, I'm kind of relieved at not having to be against him in this game.

Re: Survivor: Mafia [Night 2]
[center]Challenge #3: Getting Dirty [Strength][/center]
Players square off against another randomly assigned player on the other team to push the other person off the arena into the mud.
Players are given 8 actions- 2 “Hit Lows”, 2 “Hit Highs”, and 4 “Blocks”. Both players will use all 8 actions in whichever order they wish by WRITING IN THREAD and BOLDING your choices. The order and combination of actions dictate the quality of hits.
If a player:
-blocks while the other person hits high/hits low, the attacker rolls a d2.
-hits low while the other player hits high, both players roll a d8.
-hits high while the other player hits high or hits low while the other player hits low, both players roll a d6
-blocks while the other player blocks, both players get 0.
First player to get to 20 points, or whoever has the highest total after using all 8 actions, will knock the other player off the arena (If both players reach/exceed 20 in the same round, win goes to higher number).
First team to reach 4 knock-outs wins immunity for their tribe as well as reward of fishing gear!
**Note that all players will lose 3 energy for participating in this challenge. If a player does not send in actions in a match-up, the opponent wins the knock-out. If neither sends in actions, host will roll for winner.
To sign up, please WRITE IN-THREAD that you wish to participate.
Since this is a 7v7 challenge, 1 player will sit. Once you have signed up, you may not back out.
The battle event will be revealed at end of day, and will proceed in the order that people sign up. Once people start signing up, I will edit this post with the matchups.
1. Opt_Out vs Long Con
2. INH vs SVS
3. speedchuck vs Sorsha
4. LoRab vs DF
5. DH vs Quin
6. DrWilgy vs notsawyer
7. Golden vs Epi
Good luck!

I would suggest that you take a nap in the meantime. IRL, food poisoning is usually a thing time needs to fix. and rest is the only thing. And if you rest, at least you'll lose less rest. We'll make sure you get water and food.Golden wrote:No. I'll lose hunger thirst and energy more quickly without it being treated.LoRab wrote:I'm so sorry!!! Ok, I suggest it's time to reveal roles, and sit out the weakest. Someone as strong as opt we need. Someone who thinks they are physically weak maybe not?

I know this seems like a post from ages ago, but I was asleep during all this craziness so I just want to say that wilgy, you are smarter than this.DrWilgy wrote:I knew that there was a btsc going down but I didn't know I had to pm anything for it. I didn't send a pm when I was in btsc with Golden...LoRab wrote:Seriously? You knew you had to send in a PM for the rock. You even posted about it. @LoRab, the unluckier you consider yourself, then the more lucky good things are! :^)
@DH, that's just unlucky :^(
Sounds good. I would like BTSC with you , Lorab.LoRab wrote:Elo, Chuck: Can I interest the 2 of you in BTSC this evning?
I would also like BTSC wth Wilgy since the rules have been lifted by DH for now. Wilgy? What do you say. I want to talk personally with you and really see where you are at.

Argh once again I made the mistake in the poll. "Attempt to Start a fire" should be "Stoke the fire".

I've got it too, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure it was a result of the Night 2 poll, which listed food poisoning as an option.Golden wrote:No. I'll lose hunger thirst and energy more quickly without it being treated.LoRab wrote:I'm so sorry!!! Re: Survivor: Mafia [Day 3]
Look at the four options.
-blocks while the other person hits high/hits low, the attacker rolls a d2.
-hits low while the other player hits high, both players roll a d8.
-hits high while the other player hits high or hits low while the other player hits low, both players roll a d6
-blocks while the other player blocks, both players get 0.
ONLY ONE OF THESE GIVES THE ATTACKER AN ADVANTAGE
Let's ignore the rest and look at the only one that matters. Blocking a hit.
Now, a D2 isn't that big of a deal. But, only one player is rolling that D2. That's the only strategy we can get out of this. Normal, I'd say that the D2 doesn't matter. Here's why:
For every D2 that one player rolls, the other player will also roll a D2 later. This is because of the even number of hits/blocks that must be used. If one player hits early while the other blocks, than he is down one hit, and the other down one block. This will be rectified at some point with the other player having to hit while the first player blocks.
Is there no way to get ahead then? There is.
FIRST PLAYER to reach 20 wins. We want to be on the right side of the block/hit interaction early, and get that extra D2 if the other player blocks for some reason. They may earn it back later, but we may have already won.
Therefore, attacks are better early. No downside to this. I say everyone uses all of their attacks early on.
So kudos to Golden and Opt_Outside. It's the right idea. Other team will probably do the same, but that just makes it more important that we don't do any early blocking.

Re: Survivor: Mafia [Day 3]
ALright...I am caught up and I am unsure what to do and would like some help. We need to keep the fire going, but I am also very low on energy and poisoned.
I need to rest and stoke the fire. I will not receive food to eat/give to y'all unless the fire is going. So...who can stoke the fire for me while I rest?
I asked the host about how to be treated for this poisoning and he gave me no answer. :/
Any doctors among us? If any of you think you can help the poisoned, please speak up.
As for the challenge, I will participate if you all think its best. But as I have said, I am weak and poisoned atm. But, as far as we know, there are three of us who are poisoned. So...at least two of us will have to participate.
What should we do?

My Stats:
SIGNING UP FOR TODAYS CHALLENGE, JEFFREY
When it comes to challenge strategy, I think putting all of the blocks last could be too easily anticipated by the opposing tribe. I almost feel like randomizing the options and being intentionally unpredictable could work in our favor. I want to hear what people think before deciding anything, of course.
Also, does anyone want to talk to me tonight? I've got two open BTSC slots, and nothing to do this weekend.
I figure that's decent enough where I can afford to participate in today's challenge.15 Energy, 9 Thirst, and 7 Hunger

As for the challenge strategy, read my post. It does us no good to anticipate the enemy team or try and trick them. None at all. The clear benefit is to use all attacks early.
It's not as nuanced as it looks. Sorry, Scotty.

Fortunately, my stats weren't too badly impacted from the poisoning.

Re: Survivor: Mafia [Day 3]
I like chuck's plan of early attack, I do have something to add to it. Scotty said quote "The order and combination of actions dictate the quality of hits".
Perhaps, to give us an edge, we ought to think as if this were actual combat. Early attacking is fine by me, but I would caution against too many successive attacks or two many successive blocks.
In fact, I would also argue that the last pick should be a "Hit Low". After 7 rounds of combat, wouldn't you be a little shaky on your feet?

Okay, yeah, there may be some hidden mechanics. Score-wise, it's better to attack early, but mechanic wise, it might be best to shake it up. If we go round by round, perhaps we should do some A/B testing on the rounds? Give the first fighter a list, see how it goes, and then adjust accordingly?
I'm thinking something like:
High Attack
Low Attack
Block
High Attack
Block
Low Attack
Block
Block
Jeff, this is not a commitment to action.

A not insignificant portion of the tribe is under the influence of food poisoning. This challenge will cost *3 Energy* which is the most yet, I think, unless people went buck wild on the first challenge.
As King, I would very *strongly* suggest that the tribe focus on fish and water today. A 50/50 split between the two should tide us over until the sickness passes, with obviously someone tending to the fire and if you want, napping (Although I would argue, tending to the fire is tantamount to resting) . As fun as it would be to hunt for idols, they don't stop you from getting medically evacuated.

I am well, and am sitting with 8 hunger, 10 thirst, and 16 energy. I can do fish or water if someone takes over the fire. I am also willing to do the challenge, of course.
Jeff, is it possible for one fighter to take on two opponents?

Re: Survivor: Mafia [Day 3]
I don't inherently see a problem with a strategy like this, but I do have notes:speedchuck wrote:I missed that.DharmaHelper wrote:I like chuck's plan of early attack, I do have something to add to it.
It'll be difficult to keep balance (And therefore quality) on a hit if you go from High all the way down to low, I'd think. What I might suggest, is something like this:
High
Block
Low
Block
Block
HIgh
Block
Low

I suppose I'm still putting more emphasis on the scoring than the hidden variables.

Maybe we can do some A/B testing with both of them. After all, the fights don't all resolve at once.DharmaHelper wrote:I hear ya. Both are good strategies.speedchuck wrote:I suppose I'm still putting more emphasis on the scoring than the hidden variables.

If a tribe gets to 4 points before the 5th bout, the 5th-7th bouts will not happen

Cool. And I just looked at the post. Things resolve at the end of the day. No A/B testing.

Perhaps we can take your aggressive stance for the first four bouts, with some variation of your strategy, and finish with mine for the 5th-7thIf a tribe gets to 4 points before the 5th bout, the 5th-7th bouts will not happen

Re: Survivor: Mafia [Day 3]
We need to organize who on the tribe isn't poisoned or has some kind of strength bonus, rank them first, and the people who are poisoned last in order to ensure that if we kick ass and take names during the competition, the sick peeps can be spared the energy sink.Scotty wrote:no, every player will be slotted in.speedchuck wrote:I am well, and am sitting with 8 hunger, 10 thirst, and 16 energy. I'm sick, but I have 9/10 of my energy so I could go 5th if we need it.
