Mafia Championship S6 Scrimmage [Sign-up]

Welcome! The purpose of this game is to serve as a warm-up for the Mafia Championship Tournament on MafiaUniverse. The setup will mirror the tournament's setup, and I will do my best to replicate the structure and environment of the games that will be played over there, with obvious differences based on the Syndicate's settings (we don't have an in-house vote-tallying bot, for instance).

While the primary motivation for this game is to give our own representiative (nutella has the honor this year) a chance to familiarize herself with the style of game she should expect on MU, it is also my hope and my goal that we can welcome in a number of other participants from other communities as well. The nicest thing about the annual MU tournament in my mind is the cross-community mingling it inspires, and this game is intended to reflect that. Anyone at all can sign up for this game, though I will try to give priority to tournament representatives. This is not an official tournament event and we are not affiliated with MafiaUniverse. This game is intended to be an fun, informal practice run.

The Setup

This year's tournament setup is named Mad17. Complete details of it can be found by clicking the link. It features a full roster of power roles which are all limited to acting on designated nights. Role alignments are randomly determined, meaning that none of these roles are guaranteed to be either Town or Mafia/Wolf. Some abilities only apply to Mafia-aligned players, though. Refer to this chart:

Role/Modifier descriptions:

Watcher: Learns who visited the target, but not what actions they did

Alignment Cop: Learns whether the target is town or mafia, but not their role

Vigilante: Kills the target

Doctor: Protects the target from kills on that night only (cannot self-protect)

Tracker: Learns who the target visited, but not what actions they did

Roleblocker: Prevents the target from using their action on that night only

Jailkeeper: Performs both a Doctor and Roleblocker action on the target

Role Cop: Learns the role of the target, but not whether they are town or mafia

Jack of All Trades: Can use one of their abilities per night without repeats

Voyeur: Learns what type of actions were performed on the target, but not who did them

Macho: The player cannot be protected from kills

Strongman: Kills performed with Strongman cannot be stopped in any way (serves no purpose if the player is town)

Mechanics (Tournament Rules):
(These mechanics are copy & pasted from the Season 6 Information page on MU and will be uniform across all Tournament games.)

• Role reveals at death are alignment only. You will not learn a player's exact role when they die.

• Usage of night actions is optional, but unused actions will be lost.

• Majority voting is not in effect.

• Town wins when all threats to Town have been eliminated.

• Mafia factions win when they achieve Parity and all other evil factions have been eliminated at any time.

• Votes are automatically locked in at LYLO.

• No Lynching is enabled. Vote for No Lynch to forgo a lynch that Day.

• Mafia factional kills are optional. Mafia may submit a factional kill each night, but are not required to. However, starting night 5, the factional kill will be mandatory.

• Mafia factional kills are assigned. They can be tracked, watched, or roleblocked.

• Mafia share a factional Night Kill, which is a single standard shot for their faction.

• Mafia members may perform the faction kill in addition to their regular action at the same time.

• Mafia may communicate at any time.

• Tied votes will result in a player being lynched at random from among the tied players.

• Game thread will be locked at night.

• Night actions must be submitted via Private Message to the Host (Sloonei)

• In order for votes to be counted, they must be cast at the top of the page. It is also encouraged that players announce their votes in-thread.

• There is no posting-restriction.

• The Host will provide the Mafia team with an off-site channel for private communication.

Other House Rules
Be kind to one another. Remember that this is a game that all of are willingly playing on the internet for the fun of it. Respect one another and honor the spirit of the game at all time. Our doors are open to folks from all over the world & internet, and it is our mission to foster a welcoming and friendly environment.
This is dead red font. Any posts by dead players should be off-topic and in this color.
This is off-topic green font. Off-topic content by living players/hosts should be in this color.
This is non-player blue. People who are not participating in the game should post in this color, and should refrain from on-topic chatter.
This will be the Host color. All official announcements from the Host will be in this color, and players should make an effort to avoid using it.

If there are any further questions about anything, either the game setup or about the Syndicate's layout/software, please ask. If I need to clarify anything about the game setup with the hosts at MU, I will seek their advice.

I don't believe Sloonei will implement the posting limit for this one. Sometimes that mention feature is ornery when you quote posts -- if you delete the "@" from the quote it should go away.

There will be a poll in the game featuring all players, and selecting their names in it constitutes a vote. Sloonei will also provide a way to call votes in text.

So those are...

siren: adds the sirengif

np, OT, dead, and sarc all originate from the Lostpedia-based mafia culture which existed before I founded this site; they designate certain colors for particular uses. "np" is for non-player posting, OT is for off-topic posting, dead is for dead player posting (which should be very strictly off-topic as well), and sarc is "sarcastic orange", whose origin I can't even recall anymore. Then we added "ped" for pedantic pink. Lol.

That color only changes when users host games or join the staff.

Siren posts a .gif of a big siren. "np" is "non-player" -- a blue color that allows spectators to talk about their lunch. "dead" is for dead players to talk about their lunch. "OT" is "off-topic" for living players to talk about their lunch.

"sarc" is sarcasm, and "ped" is pedantic -- if you want to be snarky!

I'm not going to implement the 200-post limit in this game, primarily because I don't think there's an easy way to enforce it on this site.

Votes will need to be cast in the poll to officially count during the game. But I will also be encouraging people to declare their votes using the [VOTE: Vote Tag] aubergine for the sake of visibility.

The @tag on here likes to travel through quote chains. You can get rid of it by deleting it the post you're responding to.

NOTE: The game thread will be LOCKED during night phases for this game, in keeping with tournament rules. This is not standard on the Syndicate, as well as other communities I'm sure.

Please review all rules/mechanics at the top of the page and let me know if anything else needs clarifying.
This game is mostly following MU standards, which are not the same as Syndicate standards, and neither Syndicate nor MU standards will be the standards of other represented communities. It's entirely possible that there may be something which needs to be clarified that I am totally unaware of.
