The Clans

Children of Serenity - They were the true believers in the lessons of Serenity, The clan is made of law makers, judges, those who will maintain order.

Guardians of the Lifeforce
- Peaceful, believers in nature, healers. They have little use for civilization. They seem cold to some because they shun progress.

Warriors of the Shadows
- Strong, honorable, vicious. They are often thought of as evil but they are interested in maintaining peace.

Sorcerers of the Elements
- Selfish, Chaotic, driven by power. They are talented in magic. Not truly evil though.

Brotherhood of the Inner Eye
- Interested in inner peace, they respect order. They will choose to influence people's choices

Each role will be assigned a clan, aspects of the roles are influenced by the clan they are from. These are not teams, just origins. There will be certain Clan dynamics throughout the game.

Starting Clan Dynamics

Children of Serenity - They are at peace with the Guardians and Brotherhood. They don't like the Warriors or the Sorcerers.

Guardians of the Lifeforce - They are at peace with the Children and Warriors. They don't like the Brotherhood or the Sorcerers.

Warriors of the Shadows - They are at peace with the Guardians and Brotherhood. They don't like the Children or the Sorcerers.

Sorcerers of the Elements - They are not at peace. They don't like any one.

Brotherhood of the Inner Eye - They are at peace with the Children and the Warriors. They don't like the Guardians or the Sorcerers.

EPIC CHALLENGES

Each role will have an Epic Challenge to complete. If they can, throughout the course of the game, complete this Challenge, they will have their role enhanced, gaining additional powers and/or win conditions. Epic Challenges are private and not to be shared in the thread or BTSC.

Rules

1. EPIC CHALLENGES will not be shared in any way (BTSC or thread) before completion. We will be monitoring all BTSC, violators will be mod-killed without prejudice. After completion you may ask the hosts if it is ok to share.

2. No illegal BTSC. This means communicating outside designated areas without permission. If you need to communicate outside designated areas then you may ask the hosts for permission. Violators will be mod-killed without prejudice.

3. No bullshit. This means this is a game. Treat as such. I love all my players and expect each and everyone to be treated with respect. No disrespectful behaviour will be tolerated. Don't be an ass.

4. If you are dead you may speak in dead red, you may not speak ontopic at all. If you are night killed you may not even say "GO CIVS"

5. All official PM's need to be sent to both hosts. We both need to know what is going on as we are working around our work schedules and our own business. If you don't follow this rule and your PM gets missed that's your fault.

6. If you guys can't get a long please direct things via PM to us or our neighbourhood mod. We got a good one and bullshit will be worked out behind closed doors.

7. No role outing. Honestly it says nothing about your alignment so shut up about it. Info dumping is a bit sticky. Don't assume it's an info dump, people lie. Don't say I'm such and such role and I know blah blah because I was on position *insert number here*... so there. I will slap you if you do.

8. Don't reveal your baddie teammates identities to the thread. That would reduce the fun quotient for them and others, which violates rule 10. :noble:

9. No reproducing the host PMs in thread. This is an old rule, know it.

10. Have fun guys, it's important to my street cred.
The devil

Recruitments

As with the first three games there will be several ways to recruit. There is no obvious schedule to the players, only the schedule we have. Some recruitment's will be chosen players by the leaders. Some will be Public recruitment's in which we post a contest to win your recruitment judged by the applicable team.

Length of Days and Nights

Days are 48 hours, Day Zero is 24. All Night PM’s are due 23 hours after day ends, unless otherwise stated by us in the thread. Nights are still 24 hours long. LC is still doing the writing so…. we’ll try to stay on schedule…

Win Conditions

Civvie group 1 needs to defeat baddie group 1 and 2
Civvie group 2 needs to defeat baddie group 1 and 2
Baddie group 1 needs to defeat civvie group 1 and baddie group 2
Baddie group 2 needs to defeat civvie group 2 and baddie group 1

Recruitment

All players, except the Leaders, will start off the game as neutral. Recruitment will happen on a schedule designed to keep the game balanced. Some recruitment will happen privately and some will be public competitions. The winners of those competitions will be private. Usually by the end of the game every player alive has been recruited. All non-recruited players will survive to win. The baddie teams will have a limited amount of recruits at one time. The teams will not exceed a certain number. That number is private.

Positions

Each role will have a position. When you are on that position that will be your power. Day 0 we will vote for the first position. That power will be active for Day 1 and Night 1. Night 1 we will vote on a different position, that power will be active on Day 2 and Night 2 and so on. After the third position is chosen I will recycle the first position chosen and will continue like that. We should always have three positions to choose from. There are circumstances that could change that or force things.

Questions Answered

What are your participation guidelines?

If you are going to be gone, then let the thread and hosts know somehow. With that said, if a player misses 3 votes in a row or hasn’t posted in three day cycles they will be deemed a non-participant. Non-participants will then be replaced or mod-killed and take a Participation Score hit. Non-participators will not win.

What is a boon?

A boon is a piece of assistance for a player tailored to their specific needs and situation. It may be info, or a crucial protection, a subtraction of votes, or whatever.

So can I only be recruited to my own clan?

Most roles may be recruited to any team, regardless of their Clan. Ubzargan’s baddie team may end up stacked with Children of Serenity roles. During these chaotic times, people are choosing to follow strong leaders over tradition and clan loyalty.

Am I civvie when unrecruited? What is my alignment?

An unrecruited player can win by surviving until the end of the game. If you wish to play the game as a Civvie while unrecruited, then that is your prerogative.

What happens if the Leader of any clans die, does someone else take their place?

Someone that they have recruited will take their place as Leader.

If someone gets recruited, do they gain BTSC with the Leader?

Some Civvies get BTSC with the Leader, but it is a very limited number because too much Civvie BTSC would ruin the game. Baddies always get BTSC with their recruits.

Do my powers only begin once I'm recruited, or am I fully functional as of Night 1?

Your powers are active starting Day 1.

What is poison?

Once poisoned, a player will receive an additional, cumulative vote during each lynch thereafter.

If a player is nightkilled, will their power go through for that night?

Yes.

The Gathering
As the sun rose upon the mountain and the monastery that was carved out its peak, a lone figure exited through an ornately carved set of doors, and began to walk. He followed the trail that led down the mountain, and the sun's rays shone upon his tanned and shaven head. By midmorning, he had reached the base of the mountain, strolling placidly through a family of grazing deer, who kept feeding without alarm. By noon, the grasslands gave way to forests, and small villages began to appear. His passing was met by most villagers with open-mouthed awe, and the occasional bowed head. Midafternoon, he was walking through larger towns, with more evidence of technological advancement, and more than a few cameras flashed as he passed. Some tried to engage him in conversation, or entreat him for wisdom, but to all he simply smiled and held up a hand as he shook his head.

He arrived at his destination by late afternoon, the great stone fortress of Ilmareth. As he approached the doors, they opened before him, and armoured guard wearing the sigil of the Children of Serenity stood inside. "Welcome, Grand Master," he said stiffly. "If you would please follow me, our leader awaits your honoured presence." He followed the guard down a wide corridor and through a set of steel doors, into a large hall. A low and round stone wall stood in the centre, around a blazing fire, and smoke wafted up through a circular skylight.

A thick stone table stood to their left, and he could see Caelia, leader of the Children of Serenity, sitting at the table's head. "Ahriman, please, come and sit.” The guard bowed curtly and left. “You walked for many miles, and we have food and drink ready.”

“Just some water, please,” Ahriman nodded politely as he sat. “I am not the first to arrive.” He looked pointedly at the seat across from him.

Azura Nokomis waved a hand, casting aside the invisibility spell she had woven, and she scowled. “How did you know, Grand Master?” She spoke the title with a sneer.

“Your chair was slightly askew,” he said evenly, “You stink of sulphur and herbs, and you breathe louder than a-”

A sudden commotion in the hallway cut Ahriman off in mid-sentence, and the guard who had greeted him crashed through the heavy doors and landed on his back. “Greetings, Caelia!” A deep and raspy voice thundered into the room, as Ubzargan the Ruthless stepped over the prone guard. He was flanked by two huge warriors, and he gestured to them as he approached the table.

“He didn’t want to let my friends in,” he explained, grabbing a goblet from the table and taking a swig. “What kind of hospitality are you providing here, anyway?”

Caelia narrowed her eyes. “The invitation was for you and you alone,” she said sternly. “Unless you fear us so much that you require your bodyguards at your side…”

Ubzargan smirked and chuckled humourlessly, dismissing his men from the room with a motion of his head. “So,” he said as he sat, “What are we all doing here? Are you finally conceding that she’s not coming back?”

“Terras has not yet arrived,” said Caelia, ignoring his question. “We cannot begin before he joins us.”

Azura snorted, scratching a pointed ear. “He’s probably not even going to show up. He doesn’t care what the rest of us do. Neither do I, for that matter.”

“Nonetheless,” stated Caelia, “His presence will be required. I ensured that the message was clear - he will be here.”

“Ubzargan has already spoken what is surely the purpose of this gathering,” said Ahriman softly. “It has been decades since she has been seen.”

“Forty-seven years, three months,” Caelia began, but Ahriman continued.

“The land, unified under her rule for centuries, has not fared well. Political stability outside the cities has fallen apart, with most people identifying with one clan or another. Undertones of fear and distrust-”

“You are correct,” Caelia cut him off. “That is why we are here. It is time to once again unify our realm. I look to you, the leaders of your clans, for support in this. Together, we can-”

“A unified realm?” crowed Ubzargan. “Sounds great. And who will rule this fine utopia?”

Caelia regarded him for a second before answering. “The Children of Serenity still follow her tenets and teachings. Our cities still maintain centers of learning, hospitals, and the rule of law. I will be declared Luminarch, and under my guidance, the realm-”

“Luminarch?” laughed Azura Nokomis. “What audacity! You think you can fill those shoes?”

Ubzargan stood suddenly, toppling his seat behind him. “If anyone should be declared ruler of this land, it should be me!” He jabbed a robotic finger in Caelia’s direction. “You think your cities and government and law give you power? They are merely places for you to hide, and talk, and seal yourselves away from the truth!” He cast his arm up, behind him, still pointing. “The Warriors of the Shadows are the real law out there. In fact,” the cyborg brought his hand down and observed it, moving the steel fingers and leering at Caelia, “I’m already technologically enhanced. Perhaps I should be declared Technomagus!”

“You are a leader of bandits and rogues!” retorted Caelia hotly. “Under your rule, the realm would deteriorate faster than-”

“Than it already is?” interjected Ahriman. “The Brotherhood’s strict tenets would-”

“Those ‘bandits and rogues’ are loyal only to me,” Ubzargan leaned forward, placing his hands on the table. “They have no use for the teachings of an absent goddess. One word from me, and the forces at my command could take this fortress within a day!”

“Try it!” Caelia’s eyes smoldered as she stood, glaring at the cyborg warrior.

“My, my, my,” came a voice from the doorway. Terras, leader of the Guardians of the Lifeforce, walked in, his hands pursed together in mock concern. “What violent words! I pray I didn’t miss too much?” He strode in and took a seat next to Ahriman, who pointedly looked away.

“Caelia wishes to unify the realm under her control,” said Azura mockingly.

“Does she?” Terras arched an eyebrow and lifted a flower from an arrangement on the table, sniffing it. “Good luck to her then. As ever, we Guardians are uninterested in the politics of the day. Makes no difference to us how people choose to live - they all rejoin the Lifeforce in the end. It matters not how one chooses to make their journey back.”

“Told you,” smirked Azura.

“It matters greatly how one chooses to live one’s life!” said Ahriman.

“ENOUGH!” shouted Ubzargan. “I will show you exactly what this realm will look like under my control! We have been in the shadows for long enough, and when we show ourselves, your rules and councils and talk will mean nothing!”

“I’ve heard enough.” Azura stood, and headed for the door. Two acolytes shed their cloaking spells and walked beside her.

“What shall we do, my lady?” whispered one, as they left the gathering behind.

“We prepare for war,” said Azura. “If anyone is going to rule this land, it is going to be me!”

I am absolutely stoked to the utmost degree to play this game. LC and BR, I really can't wait to play this out. And the player list is SO EPIC. :D

It seems this Day 0 poll may be quite meaningful, upon first glance. What do you all think?

Interesting thought. The orderly, accounting nerd in me sees Position 1 as the logical place to start. I'll have to peruse the roles and their positions a bit more before I make my choice.

I guess it depends on what you prefer.

As a player do you prefer long drawn games with a higher chance of surviving longer, and the chance to stall the game a little bit longer?

Or would you prefer lots of messy deaths early on to clear the playing field a little bit?

We have to cycle through all five positions. It might actually be that we are better off getting kills from baddies out of the way now... we should think about and discuss best use of kills. Definitely better to avoid positions with civ kills for now, I would think.

I was working under the assumption we'd get to vote on it each time and could work it out strategically along the way. Was that wrong?

Except if I worked an hour on a totally screwy spreadsheet and am missing something, please explain how positions 1 and 2 are have more amount of death than position 5. All positions allow the Executioner to attempt a kill, whilst position 3 and 4 enable Caelia and Ahriman to kill. Uzbekistan's poison is also on position 4, in case that thing is deadly or anything (is it?).

The Spinner can also gain immunite to Ubzy and Azura kills, but I'm not seeing them having any kill positions. Or do they?

I'm probably gonna ask a lot of questions in this game. :noble:

Made a list of what power are active on each position.

Position 1:

Code: Select all

Caelia - Children of Serenity
Lynch Pardon

Here's a hyperlink to the list, although I'm not sure how to preserve it except if the Host sticky it on the front page.

I'd vote Chris but he isn't playing. Also this isn't a lynch poll :ponder:

I am not in love with position 4. That poison. Position five allows Azuma to force three votes, which I also don't love. From the story, Ahriman & Caelia seem LEAST malign, although that is hard to say. But option 3 allows Ahriman 5 people to block, so not sure if that is a good thing so early in the game. Number two lets Azuma switch votes with someone, but that could easily backfire as I would think were that option in play, anyone pushing hard for a lynch would come under suspicion. Position one has both Caelia & Uzkaban able to survive a lynch, but not switch it.

So without thinking about it too much, I would rate them: 2,1,3,5,4. One, two & three are fairly fluid for me. But 4 and probably 5 are not choices I like.

This is actually a very valid point. Worth bearing in mind when people decide how to vote!
We have to cycle through all five positions. It might actually be that we are better off getting kills from baddies out of the way now... we should think about and discuss best use of kills. Definitely better to avoid positions with civ kills for now, I would think.
You "would" think? What is stopping you from actually thinking this? :ponder:

:noble:
The Immortal has a kill on Position 1.

Oh Christ, i didn't even look at all the options regarding ALL the roles. It didn't occur to me that anyone other than the major roles had kills. '

I am going to look through and see what horrible options there are for position 2.
