Minimalism: Game Over

Don't watch this space anymore.

Welcome to Minimalism Mafia, the game where less is more!

Roles:
Civvies:
Philip Glass - Can do nothing.
Steve Reich - Can do nothing.
Terry Riley - Can do nothing.
Alvin Lucier - Can do nothing.
John Adams - Can do nothing.
La Monte Young - Can do nothing.
Tony Conrad - Can do nothing.
Robert Ashley - Can do nothing.
Gavin Bryars - Can do nothing.
Pauline Oliveros - Can do nothing.
Harold Budd - Can do nothing.
Meredith Monk - Can do nothing.

Mafia:
John Cage - Kills nightly and can silence one player each night.

Rules:
1. Don't. Just don't.
2. No BTSC unless your role specifically allows it
3. Treat other players with respect at all times. Notify me if you have any complaints, but don't taint the bright white thread with any nastiness.
4. Off topic conversation is perfectly permissible. No need to use OT Green. Feel free to use the thread to discuss your favorite minimalist painting, sculpture, film, architecture and music!
5. I would prefer if non-players and dead players didn't post at all.

Owing to the special nature of this game, there will be no Day 0. We are starting directly at day one.

Day periods will last 672 hours. Night periods will last 336 hours.

It is highly recommended that you purchase this keyboard and use it exclusively to play this game.

All roles have gone out. You may now post. You have four weeks to lynch someone.

Also, we will be playing a game as soon as I get home from work, so prepare for fun.

Game time!

It's "guess the image!" Every day I will post a piece of this image. The first two(2) people to correctly identify it and PM me the answer will get prizes. You may freely discuss the image in the thread, but please do not discuss the prizes.

Here is the first piece:

I still don't have any Henry Cow albums! Which one should I get first? I'm thinking Western Culture.

You really can't go wrong with any of the four. I am an absolute diehard Henry Cow fan.

Knowing that you're well knowledgeable of and not averse to avant-garde music, actually, go with Western Culture. But then you'll want to get the other three. They're all so great.

I have Winter Songs by Art Bears and a Fred Frith solo album, so I think I would enjoy them a great deal.

I know a good bit about minimalist art, but not music. Other than a few of the musicians who are also roles. Where is a good starting place. In other words, can I have a Music Minimalism 101 primer?

Patience, Grasshopper. There will be a great deal of minimalist music posted in this thread, but I can't use it all up on the first day. Before you can listen to minimalist music, you must get used to waiting a long time while nothing happens.

Art Bears is good stuff, but it's nowhere near Henry Cow level, IMO. I made sure to ask for the Henry Cow boxset for Christmas from my parents a few years back immediately when it was coming out. One of my favorite gifts. I haven't listened to it in too long really.

S~V~S wrote:Oh my, how unexpected. I have never seen Alex without his sock. I am not sure I will recognize him :|
I know, right? I'm not even sure I can keep this up; I might have to switch back. The main thing stopping me is that this is still Henry Cow.

I haven't changed my avatar to something non-sock for longer than like a few hours since 2008.

I'll let Logan do his job here, but I just have to say that Music for 18 Musicians by Steve Reich and Koyaanisqatsi by Philip Glass are essential listens for any music lover and fantastic minimalist music introductions.

Thanks, dude! I'm only super familiar with Philip Glass. That documentary about him was rocktober. How fitting that we started this in Rocktober, my fave month!

Anyway, I will check out Music for 18 Marmosets right now!

Well hopefully you do not get sick of us telling you how impressed we are! That is really awesome.

I always have dug the Mondrian cakes at MoMA and one day I hope to eat it with wild abandon (or in tiny, dainty bites with my pinkies in the air, either way).

I don't want to live in that universe.

We can post if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't post and if they don't post
Well they're no friends of mine

Hi everyone!

My guess for the image is....beige.

And Eloh, I didn't even realize your avatar was a cake until I read other people's posts about it. That's amazing.

I really like me some Henry Cow, but beyond that I admit to some ignorance where minimalism is concerned. Hopefully this Mafia will give me a good intro!

And where the heck have you been?

Yeah I looked through dozens or hundreds of minimalist album covers the other night, with no luck.

Is the picture we're trying to guess an album cover?
