Fear of Mafia

Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town - Depending on whether this player is from The Syndicate or RateYourMusic, every night it can attempt to seduce a player from the opposite forum. If the target follows Uh-Oh's vote the subsequent day, then it is successfully seduced. Thereafter, all powers that target one player will be redirected to the other. In addition, if one of them is lynched, the other will die in its place. If the seduced player dies first, then Uh-Oh may try to seduce another player.

Don't Worry About the Government - Works at the government building, waiting for people to visit him. At the start of every even day period, he gains anonymous temporary BTSC with one player who has never visited him before. Every odd night, any player may PM the host offering to visit him, but only one of the first five players to PM the host will be selected.

Pulled Up - Every time a non-civilian player is lynched, its vote increases by 1. Conversely, if three civilian players are lynched consecutively, its vote decreases by 1. Its vote can be worth negative.

Warning Sign – Whenever Warning Sign receives votes against it in a lynch cast by a member of the opposite forum, the subsequent night a message is sent to a randomly selected player of the same forum. That message notifies that player that Warning Sign received vote(s) the previous day. The number of players that receive a message is equal to the number of votes from the opposing forum that Warning Sign took.

Found a Job – Every night, it will find a job for two players, one from each forum. Both players will have the duration of the following day period to perform their job. Then during the night period, Found a Job will then declare one of them the winner and the other one a loser. The winner will be able to use their night power twice that night, while the loser will be blocked. Both players will submit their power twice without knowing whether they have won or lost.

Take Me to the River – Takes two players to the river every night, one from each forum, and pushes them in the water. One of them will be blocked for the night; the other will be removed from the subsequent day's lynch poll. The fates of both players are randomly determined.

I Zimbra – Insanifies a player of its choice every night, forcing that player to speak in another language of its choice the subsequent day. If that player is from the same forum as I Zimbra, its vote is worth x3; if it is from the opposing forum, it is worth negative x3. The value of the insanified player's vote is unknown to everyone except I Zimbra.

Memories Can't Wait – As long as it is alive, if a mafia is lynched and a civilian was lynched the previous day, another day will follow, skipping the night.

Air – Hits one player in the face every night, redirecting their night power to another player. Their new target must be from the opposite forum of their original target. Because of this, Air will send in two names for its target's new power, one from each forum.

Heaven – Every night, Heaven receives a snippet of BTSC from the spectator chatroom.

Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On) – Kills a player of its choice every even night. If the kill is against a fellow civilian, there is a 50% chance of failure. If it fails to kill three times, it dies.

Crosseyed and Painless – Can role check one player of its choice every night, but must wait for the results. When it role checks, it must decide at that time how long to wait for the results. It must wait a minimum of one day/night cycle to receive results. If it waits one cycle, results have a 40% chance of being correct, with otherwise a 60% chance of a false randomized result. For every day/night cycle that it waits to receive its results, the accuracy of the role check increases by 20%. If it waits four cycles, the role check will be 100% accurate, with no chance of a false randomized result.

The Great Curve – During one night of its choice, it may uncover the true vote tallies for the previous day's lynch, including all vote manipulation.

Once in a Lifetime – Asks a player a multiple choice question every night. It must alternate between members of the two forums. If it correctly predicts its target's answer, they both gain an extra vote to be used at any time. If it is incorrect, Once in a Lifetime must vote the same player as it did yesterday; if that player is dead, then it loses one of its extra votes.

Seen and Not Seen – During any night, it may try to change its face. "Changing its face" effectively switches the forum this player is from when it comes to all forum-driven role powers, unbeknownst to everyone else. For example, if this player is actually from The Syndicate, it may elect to change its face, and thereafter it is secretly from RateYourMusic, and a power that would previously have affected it because it was from The Syndicate only no longer will do so. It takes two full cycles before this change takes effect.

Girlfriend Is Better – Because of its hypnotizing, persuasive big suit, it cannot be lynched. However, if it is targeted at night with a power, it has a 50% chance of affecting another randomly selected civilian as well.

Slippery People – If targeted by a mafia night kill, it has a 50% chance of taking its killer to the grave with it.

Swamp – If targeted by a mafia night kill, it dies, but its killer cannot use their night power or kill the subsequent two nights.

This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) – Can protect one or two players from nightkills each night; if protecting two players, both players must be from the same forum. If it protects two players, then the subsequent night it can only protect one player from the same forum or two players from the opposite forum. It may choose to protect itself, but once it does so, all further protections have a 50% chance of failure.

And She Was – She doesn't care to be bothered; she just wants to space out. For every day that she receives no votes at any time, she starts all subsequent lynches with one negative vote against her. For every night that she is not affected by any night actions, she gains a 10% chance of avoiding each future night action. Negative votes and night action evasion are cumulative.

Road to Nowhere – May pardon one lynch of any player other than itself. If nightkilled, there will be two lynches in a row; if lynched, there will be two nights in a row.

Love for Sale – Every night, it offers to sell its subsequent lynch vote to all players. The first player that PMs the host accepting the deal may control how Love for Sale votes the subsequent day. (Secrets)

Wild Wild Life – During one night of its choice, it may decide to randomly redirect the night targets of all players from the opposite forum.

Blind – Cannot be night killed. At the start of the game, its vote will go to the person voted. In future lynches, however, Blind may not know who it actually is voting for. Any time that a civilian is lynched, then its lynch vote is secretly randomized among the player it voted and the one alphabetically above and below its vote. For every civilian lynch, the possible vote recipient range is increased by one player above and below its current range. In contrast, any time that a mafia is lynched, the range decreases by one player above and below its current range.

Thank You for Sending Me an Angel – As long as it is alive, this player uncovers the role of every player that the mafia team successfully nightkills. Once in the game, it may borrow the power of any role the mafia has killed. If it carries out the kill, it cannot perform its normal night power.

Life During Wartime – As long as it is alive, if the mafia fails to kill on an odd night for whatever reason, they may execute a kill the following night. If it carries out the kill, it cannot perform its normal night power.

Drugs – Slips drugs to a player of its choice every even night. That player will start every subsequent lynch with two votes against them. If it carries out the kill, it cannot kill any player it hasn't drugged.

Burning Down the House – Burns down a player’s house every odd night, blocking that player the current night. That player has a 50% chance of being blocked the subsequent night as well, unable to act out of depression. If it carries out the kill, it cannot perform its normal night power.

Making Flippy Floppy – Makes flippy floppy with a player of its choice every night. In doing so, it redirects that player's power to it. Assuming it survives, it may choose to continue making flippy floppy during subsequent nights, bypassing double targeting rules. If its target does not use a night power, nothing happens. It cannot make flippy floppy with the same player for more than three consecutive nights. If it carries out the kill, it cannot kill a player it has targeted at any time with its normal night power.

(Nothing But) Flowers – Can't get used to the lifestyle brought about by the new players. Its vote is worth x3 against players from the opposite forum. It cannot be harmed by night powers used by players from the same forum. If it carries out the kill, it cannot kill players from the same forum.

GAMEPLAY & RULES
Gameplay
1. Days are 48 hours. At the end of each Day, a player will be lynched, normally the player with the most votes, and that player will have his or her role revealed. Note the role descriptions for any exceptions to this procedure, as there is role power manipulation. There is no option to vote for "No Lynch". Before the end of each Day, you must cast your vote for another player (see: Rule 6). A missing vote will negatively impact your Participation Score (see: Participation).
2. Nights are 24 hours, but all PMs must be sent to both hosts within 23 hours. At the end of each Night, any number of players may be nightkilled, and those player(s) will not have their roles revealed. Before the end of each Night, you will send in your Night power to both hosts, MovingPictures07 and Sloonei. If you elect to not utilize your power, you must send a PM indicating such. A missing PM will negatively impact your Participation Score (see: Participation). If your power can be elected during any time or during Days, then utilize it during that time.
3. All game conversation must take place in the thread unless you have specifically been given BTSC (see: Rules).
4. All votes must be cast in the poll to count. It is considered standard and good form to post at the time of your vote, but it is not necessary for your vote to count.
5. All votes are changeable. You may change your vote as many times as you wish up until the vote's deadline.
6. All role power PMs must be sent in by the player utilizing the power. No relying on BTSCmates (if you have any) to send in your power.
7. Civilians win if they have eliminated the Mafia and the Serial Killer. Mafia win if they have eliminated the Civilians and the Serial Killer. The Serial Killer must be the Last Man Standing.
8. If your faction wins, you win, regardless of whether you are dead or alive at endgame. Do your best! Fight for your faction's win condition. Players who fail to meet participation criteria will be denied a win.
9. Once the game is complete, all players will vote on an MVP via PM to both hosts. The player with the most votes will be crowned the MVP of Talking Heads (RYM #90) Mafia.
10. Your Participation Score (P-Score) will be adversely affected if you fail certain participation criteria. Refer to the guidelines on Participation for more detail. In addition, upon failure of participation criteria, you may be forcibly replaced or modkilled if you have not corresponded with both hosts.
11. For the first time at The Syndicate, dead players and spectators (who will not replace) will be able to talk about the game in an exclusive chatroom!
12. The hosts for this game are MovingPictures07 and Sloonei. Please PM all game and role mechanics questions to both of them, as well as any role power PMs.
13. The Mod on Duty for this game is S~V~S. She is there for any of your questions or concerns not strictly related to game or role mechanics. Please PM her with any grievances or concerns you may have at any time, notably including conflicts with other players. Keep the thread fun and clean of emotionally-charged drama or conflicts; PM S~V~S instead. We want to keep this game as fun as possible for everyone.

Rules
1. Be respectful and remember that this is a game. Although mafia is a game of deception and can be rather heated, recognize that the game is not personal and that your friends may be lying to you in the spirit of the game. Please treat your fellow players with respect, even if you suspect or strongly disagree with them.
2. No BTSC (Behind the Scenes Contact/Conversation) with anyone other than your specified BTSC partners. Do not talk about the game with anyone outside the thread, in any capacity, except for the hosts or the Mod on Duty or any BTSC. If you are unsure whether you have BTSC, that means you do not have it.
3. No editing or deleting of posts.
4. No role outing of yourself or anyone else. This includes all statements of fact that any player may see and thereafter deduct your or someone else's role, such as "I am Making Flippy Floppy", "Sloonei is Psycho Killer", etc. This game is open setup and incompatible with role outing, thus making it not fun when players engage in it. Absolutely don't do it.
5. No dumping information you received from the Host (whether role-related or not) into the thread. This includes statements that more often are seen as implications, rather than statements of fact (role outing). An example would be declaring that "I have reasons to believe Sloonei is Psycho Killer" without elaborating. If you suspect someone to be a certain role or alignment, use in-thread reasons to back up your assertion or speculation, even if your reasons are sourced from information you gained outside of the thread. If you are unsure if what you are about to say constitutes info dumping, please PM the hosts first before making the post. If you fail to do this and your post does violate information dumping, then you and your faction will be punished.
6. No self-voting, even as a placeholder. This is considered an illegal move in this game as much as voting for the non-player option.
7. No double-targeting (targeting the same individual with a role power twice in a row).
8. Dead players should not post on-topic and any posts made should be in dead red. There is a "dead" code for this function.
9. Off-topic posts should be in off-topic green. There is an "OT" code for this function.
10. Posts from non-players should be in non-player blue. There is a "np" code for this function.
11. This is your The Syndicate host's color. All of MovingPictures07's host posts will be in this color. Don't use it!
12. This is your RateYourMusic host's color. All of Sloonei's host posts will be in this color. Don't use it!



PARTICIPATION
The following behavior constitutes non-participation:

- If you do not post for more than 72 consecutive hours.
- If you do not cast a vote in 3 or more lynches.
- If you do not send in your night power on 3 or more occasions.

If any of these are committed, it will qualify as non-participation for the purposes of this game. Consequently, any player who commits any of these will have their Participation Score (P-Score) penalized.

If at any time you are afraid you cannot fulfill any of these requirements due to any reason, please PM both hosts immediately explaining your situation or requesting a replacement. In the case of the latter, we will then seek out someone to take your place and your P-Score will not be penalized.

Exceptions will be made for unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances.

Day 0: New Feeling

As his employees debated over the various options, MP watched impatiently. He kept glancing at the clock. 'What was taking them so long to decide?' he thought. All of his employees noticed that throughout the meeting, MP kept checking his phone, occasionally texting. Eventually there was a time when MP looked at his phone, and his eyes lit up.

"Okay! That's it. It's not yesterday anymore. Let's move on. I heard from Sloonei and the RYMers will be here any minute!" The players immediately stopped talking. "This room is too small... we need to head to the auditorium." MP motioned for others to leave the room, then shut the door behind him.

The Syndicate Schemes employees sat in the auditorium chairs. A few of them were curious to meet the RYMers, the rest not so much. In the silence of the auditorium, the sound of one person rapping soon permeated the hallway leading up to the auditorium.

Sloonei opened the doors to the auditorium. The Syndicate employees turned to look at the guests, as if they were aliens.

"Hey! That line about me was mean. You suck." MacDougall interrupted, punching Choutas.

"Next time I'll write you a positive verse, I swear." Choutas reassured his co-worker, rolling his eyes.

"Stop it, you two!" Sloonei yelled, in what was the most soft-spoken voice ever heard by any of the Syndicate employees. The RYM Records employees all took their seats as Sloonei walked up to the main stage. Sloonei joined MP at the podium.


MP beamed with excitement as he addressed all of the employees. "We are glad to finally have you all together in the same room!" "Indeed!"

"So, let's get started. As you all know, a few months ago I came up with the idea for a Talking Heads-themed mafia game, and called my buddy Sloonei here. In talking, I realized that we could make this game something really special, as much a musical experience as a mafia gaming experience."

Epignosis muttered under his breath, "This is dumb. I don't like Talking Heads." Elohcin voiced her agreement, but a bit too loudly.

"I'm sorry, Epi and Elo, do you have something you wanted to say?" Epi glared at Elo. There was no response.

"Alright then. So, as I was saying, this new line of mafia party game will be something really special. As you know, we are partnering with a record company! I'm sure many of you are still wondering: 'Why?' Well, that's what this meeting is designed to answer. In fact, I've been working on a new interactive feature for this game that I really think will launch Syndicate Schemes Gaming Co. to the top! Parker Bros.? Mattel? Everyone will be like 'Who are they?'!"

Epi rolled his eyes. 'Here we go again', he thought.

"But! Before I can tell you more about that, Sloonei and I need one last thing from you all."

Employees from both companies started expressing their disapproval.

"Let's settle down, folks. I know, I know, it's already dusk and we all want to get home to our families. But Sloonei and I both think this is an important matter. Sloonei, you want the honors?"

Sloonei stepped up to the podium.


"Hello, employees of Syndicate Schemes and RYM Records. I am pleased to announce that we will be promoting two of you, one from each company!"

The mood of every employee changed swiftly, from aggravation to attentive excitement.

"We are having you decide!"
"You heard him right, folks!"

MP nodded his head and his receptionist, S~V~S, started passing out clickers to all of the employees. Each clicker had 34 numbers on it. As each employee received his or her clicker, MP talked to the mesmerized crowd.

"Alright, folks! S~V~S will keep passing out those clickers to you all. When you get yours, or if you have one already, you will see that there are 34 numbers." MP turned the overhead projection on. There appeared a numbered list with all 34 employees' names. "See how every single one of your names corresponds to a number there? If you want to vote for someone to get the promotion, click that employee's name!"

Devin the Omniscient interrupted, "Hold on! So we are letting those people decide who gets promoted within our company???!"


MP smiled. "You got it! Every single one of you has a vote for each company, two votes overall. All of you will control over who gets promoted at both companies! Once one employee from both companies each has five votes, both employees will automatically become the new Assistant CEO of either Syndicate Schemes Gaming Co. or RYM Records, Inc.!"

"That's Assistant to the CEO." Sloonei interjected.

"Yes!" MP laughed. "Assistant to the CEO, my bad."

The employees immediately bursted out into conversation, until MP swiftly interrupted them.

"Just note that you can change your vote! If you decide to elect someone for the position, and then change your mind, feel free to change it by clicking another number! This screen up here will update and keep a tally of all the votes. Pretty nifty, huh?"

The employees resumed discussion until interrupted once more.

"Also note that changing votes can effect how this process progresses! Once two employees, one from each company, have five votes, that's it! If only one company has an employee with five votes, it's not good enough since the votes may change! Good luck to all of you!"


Day 0 has ended.

It is now Dusk 0. Nominate two Assistants to the CEO, one for each company.

In the spirit of RYM Mafia, there will be a musical contest this game. It is completely optional and does not have any effect on the game itself. So, Talking Heads fans, this is for you. For those of you who aren't, don't stress! This is just for fun!

At the end of the game, Sloonei and I will be awarding the "Live Wire" award to the player with the most entertaining and intriguing usage of Talking Heads lyrics in their posts throughout the entire game.

I want to additionally note that although it is not required for any votes to count, Sloonei and I would incredibly appreciate it if whenever you cast any votes that you bold them in the thread simultaneously. All votes in all polls will be changeable this game, so it'll be easier for us and you to keep track of them this way.

Wilgy walks into the office dressed slightly spiffier than normal. His hair and beard looks as if it's recently been cleaned up. He carries a decently sized briefcase in his right hand, with two key-chains dangling from it. One is of DrPenguin-Man, the notorious hero who hugs people in a penguin suit. The other is of the Syndicate Schemes logo. He throws out some compliments and high fives as he walks in briskly, and somewhat energetically.

Good afternoon everyone! I would like to nominate myself for the Syndicate Schemes promotion, and MM for the RYM promotion. I promise to not let you down if I'm given this promotion, and I will do my best as the assistant to the CEO! I nominate MM for the RYM promotion due to him being a good friend. I trust that he wouldn't let us and his fellow co-workers down if he is given the promotion.
