Well, considering how awesome practically all of the roles are in this game (IMO, though of course Durden was his own level of awesome), it's very likely.Black Rock wrote:I expect the same.MovingPictures07 wrote:Welcome aboard, BR!

And as far as curses go, perhaps my favorite and the most well-known one is the Birthday Curse.
That said, it wasn't my favorite on my birthday, since I've been hit by that one twice.

Seriously though, in all my years of playing across so many sites, I've never once participated in or heard of any baddie or other BTSC that even mentioned birthday curse or the sign-up/multiple games curse as reasons to go after anyone (because IMO either of those would be ridiculous and very unstrategic reasons to kill or gun after someone). So it's interesting that such theories exist and appear to persist (at least, in some observors' opinions).

Re: [SIGN-UPs] Death Note Mafia
dunno if it's intentional or subconsious - maybe people subconsiously think when they are mafia and see someone say that "it's ok to kill them, they'll be alive again in the new game"
But the pattern is there.
Reasons known or not. I've been too long a food service worker to fuck with a pattern.
I don't mess with friday the 13. I don't mess with the full moon. I hope I don't die on my birthday and I don't say "I'll play this game if I die in my other game."
also - good to see aces back around these parts too!
welcome all the others that have signed up as well. I was at work reading tonight - and I am now drfunk and dinner away from nappy time.

Even though I'm trying to take a break I promised MP I would play this game if there were a few at the end that he was having trouble getting. I'll put my name in replacements just as a reminder that I will join if needed.

Sometimes it will naturally come out, but it can be contained if we just remember that this is a game on a message board forum that 99.99% of the population of the Earth has never heard of before. No matter how successful anyone is, it means just about nothing.

Re: [SIGN-UPs] Death Note Mafia
Prologue: Part 3 - Confrontation (Flashback)
Light and Ryuk are talking in his room.
LIGHT: Ryuk, you should check this out. Websites like this are popping up everywhere lately.
RYUK: The legend of Kira the savior. Huh... sounds pretty cool. Is this about you?
LIGHT: Yeah. I think they've taken the name "Kira" from the English word killer. Can't say I'm too happy about that, but it looks like that's the name they've decided to give me. When I search the word Kira, I'm pulling up tons of sites just like this one. The media hasn't picked up on it. They're still calling this a succession of unexplained deaths among the world's most hardened criminals, but the people of the world can already sense that there's something happening. They know there's someone out there passing righteous judgement.
RYUK: Oh?
LIGHT: Human beings are like that, Ryuk. Although this would probably never happen in school, let's say that students were asked to discuss whether bad people deserve to die. Well, you can bet that everyone will give the politically correct answer. "It's just wrong to kill people." That's what they are bound to say; of course, that's the correct response to give, right? Humans are always trying to maintain appearances when they're in public. That's just how we are, but this is how they really feel. Most are too afraid to support me as they're worried about what others would think. Many would rather deny my existence, but on the internet, where you can remain anonymous, support for Kira is growing. Maybe people are afraid to say it out loud, but they all understand what's happening; someone's making the bad guys disappear one by one. Those who have done no wrong are cheering for Kira in their hearts because they have nothing to fear, while those who have done wrong are on the run. They are forced to hide from an unknown enemy. This is how it should be. It's perfect. Everything is going just like I planned.
ANNOUNCER: We'd like to apologize for the interruption. As of now we're bringing you a live world wide broadcast from Interpol, ICPO.
RYUK: Hmmm... what's this?
ANNOUNCER: We now take you live to the ICPO.
LIND: I head up an international police task force which includes all member nations. I am Lind L. Tailor, otherwise known as L.
LIGHT: What? Who is this guy?
SOUICHIRO: So this is how it all begins.
MATSUDA: But sir, I don't get it. He's never actually shown his face before, right? Why would he choose to do it now?
SOUICHIRO: It must mean L's serious about this. (reflection) L, we followed every single one of your orders. Now it's time for you to prove what you said to the ICPO.
LIND: Criminals around the world are being murdered by a serial killer. I consider this crime to be the most atrocious act of murder in history. I will not rest until the person or persons responsible are brought to justice. Kira, I will hunt you down, I will find you.
RYUK: He seems certain he'll catch you.
LIGHT: That fool. He'll never find me. He'll have to get this notebook first, and as long as the police don't find it, there won't be any evidence to convict me, which means catching me will be absolutely impossible... I anticipated that the police would get involved and that something like this might happen.
LIND: Kira, I've got a pretty good idea what your motivation might be and I can guess what you hope to achieve. However, what you are doing right now is evil.
LIGHT: You think I'm evil? I am justice! I protect the innocent and those who fear evil! I'm the one who'd become the god of a new world that everyone desires! All those who'd oppose that god, they are the ones who're truly evil!!! ...I guess you're just too stupid, L. Too bad. This could have been a lot more interesting if you'd only been a bit smarter.
Light writes down "Lind L. Tailor" in the Death Note.
LIGHT: I'll show the world what happens when you cross me. The entire world is watching, L... Five more seconds. Four, three, two, one...
To be continued...

I'm stuck at work after hours, so I just finished the first episode. I am intrigued. There's a certain corniness that pervades the "get-to-the-point" first episode, but I'm invested. And heck, the series is only 37 23-minute episodes, so it isn't even a big investment.MovingPictures07 wrote:Curious to hear your thoughts.Epignosis wrote:I'm going to start this on Netflix and see if it's worth sticking with.

Well, part of it comes from the translation. I do not speak Japanese, but I'd like to think I speak English pretty okay.MovingPictures07 wrote:Yay, Russ!

I had the English subtitles on too, and the subtitles on Netflix are markedly different than the English audio, and some of the phrasing and word choice were awkward.

Um, so is Kira killing L in that latest Prologue piece? He has his face and his name on a Death Note... isn't that a kill?

You'll just have to wait and see.Long Con wrote:Um, so is Kira killing L in that latest Prologue piece? He has his face and his name on a Death Note... isn't that a kill?
I'll be putting up the next prologue once roughly 4 other players have signed up.

Re: [SIGN-UPs] Death Note Mafia
Well, yeah, these preliminary prologue pieces are lifted from the storyline to provide some (IMO, important) context, so if someone doesn't want to wait for another 4 players to sign up, I'm sure they could easily find out what happens. :PDharmaHelper wrote:Having seen Death Note I already know what happens :O
That said, when the game starts, I do twist the storyline to fit the setting that I desire.
And naturally, absolutely no knowledge of the theme is necessary, but I always like to heavily ground my mafia games in their themes as well as try to structure the game's approach around the theme as much as I can, in order to keep the "feel" of the theme I'm utilizing.

Second episode was good. Predictable but good.
