Welcome, Choutas! Nice to meet you and glad to have you here. Hope you enjoy it.
Alright, it's the 26th and we're now officially into the window where we can start the game. Still not sure when it'll actually start, but we need to at least hit the minimum of 25 players first (we can definitely have more if folks really want in), and we'll go from there.

But don't you want to start soon?Ricochet wrote:We're still waiting...let's keep doing until, say, November?
Seriously, we'll see how it goes. Once we hit 25, I want to make sure there isn't still additional demand out there before we get started. I'm guesstimating early October at this point.
Just an FYI, I'll have company (birdwithteeth11) from the 3rd through the 8th, but it shouldn't interfere with the game, especially thanks to my badass co-host.

They are indeed, nice to have you!sig wrote:If sign ups are still open I would be happy to play.
We need 3 more players, but will be accepting as many as we can get until we decide to start the game and sign-ups are moved to the Museum. I'll be PMing everyone before that occurs.
Re: [SIGN-UPs] Talking Heads Mafia (RYM #90)
Okay thanks glad to be playing this game looks fun.
A quick question about Don't Worry About the Government, when a player PM's him/her will they then be revealed to each other, so if I entered BTSC with them would they know my role and who I was or just who I am?

I added an additional word to the role description to clarify: anonymous temporary BTSC.
Since the role does not select its target in this case (as is normal with every other time I've seen this role), it will actually be fully anonymous on both ends, and both DWAtG and the visitor will not know the other player's identity.

Is there a FAQ about the terms you use on the site? On RYM(at least when I played it) we weren't following the canon rules and it took us forever to use some of the most used mafia lingo. I feel bad if I ask you guys stuff all the time.

linki - means "While I wrote this, other people posted" - and you might then use it to respond to those posts as well.
wifom = wine in front of me = a situation argument such as "If I was scum, then I would never kill golden"
We often use 'no u' for what you seem to use 'omgus' to mean.
Re: [SIGN-UPs] Talking Heads Mafia (RYM #90)
Some more basic information that I had to get used to when I started here:
We call the townies civvies and the mafia baddies.
We have polls at the top of the page (just like in the sign up), so you don't need to wait for the host's tally. In addition, there's a thread that sums all polls made in the game.
Votes are not always changeable, so the best thing to do is to ask the host if it's not mentioned.
It's in the first page rules, but in case you missed it, their are all kinds of colours you need to use when posting. Dead post in red, non players in blue, etc'. You don't need to look for the colours, you have everything at the top of the window when you write a reply.

Is the community uptight/mafiacore like mafiascum? The only possible hitch I can see happening is RYMers being nonchalant and some of their posts being folksy and playful. We were posting lots of music since it was a music site and there were many stuff that were considered non cannon like completely made up roles, vocaroo recordings, heavy roleplaying and personal feuds.Roxy wrote:Choutas - don't worry we will all help you, we are all friends here. Funny you should mention vocaroo recordings - I just made one this morning
Yah we are spammers (some more than others - amirite MM?). Some play styles here are ---- lets say avant garde. Much different than other sites. NOTHING like Mafia Scum (yucky-poo!).
We make up roles but do not role play (well except for my current game The Syndicate Mafia).
Some of us come from Prog Archives and others just love music (like me) so we have that similarity in common with ya'lls site.
We also have some feuds and some grudges but most are in jest. Like me and llama - we have this thing - I feel like he is my mafia nemesis. We rarely agree and play completely different from each other.
We do not like info dumping or role claiming/ability claiming here. It is frowned upon and not considered to be in the spirit of the game. Plus it is more fun to figure stuff out and make a case based on thread evidence than someone just coming in and saying "Mr X is bad bc I tracked him last night". I do not know how your site handles info - when I made my account to smack talk - I never looked around or smack talked bc it was making me wait 24 hours to post. But maybe you have a similar rule on RYM?
I do think this mash up game will be a blast to play

Re: [SIGN-UPs] Talking Heads Mafia (RYM #90)
Many original players here come from the Prog Archives and are big music fans, especially MovingPictures.
Also, I did play at mafiascum for a short time years ago. It made me quit mafia. Things are far different here. We get into tizzies occasionally, but we are generally laidback and play to have fun. We like epic and wild games as evidenced by the Recruitment Mafia happening right now. We like in depth themes, and all you have to do is look at a MovingPictures game to see that. And in the end, we like to have fun, so civilians get steamrolled a LOT here.
So you think RYMers are too nonchalant? Well, you also haven't played with me yet.
Linki: Goddamn Roxy, how in the world did you say all the exact same things I did?

Re: [SIGN-UPs] Talking Heads Mafia (RYM #90)
I'm not sure I have much to add to what others have said! We love having new players around here and I'm really proud of the group of hosts and players we have on this site. As it is mafia, stuff gets heated as it inevitably does, but we from our start have instituted the Mod on Duty function (which is very similar to a mediator, but can also function just as a person to vent to) to help mitigate anything from escalating too big in the thread.
Many of us are good friends here. I started playing mafia back on Lostpedia and affiliated sites over 5 years ago now, loved the game, loved many of the other players, and so I introduced it to a bunch of my friends at ProgArchives where I had been a member for some time, and many of them hadn't played previously and grew to love it too. I created this community at a time when some of the LP-based player base started losing interest in mafia due to various reasons, and mafia was not happening at ProgArchives because it died off after I stopped hosting games (it wasn't a good site for mafia hosting from a functionality-level, that's for sure). As a result, the beginning of this site was a bit of a culture clash/melding between the two communities, one group which had an established mafia community across a few different sites (Lostpedia, Hedville, The Piano, RevolutionMafia) and had played for years, and another which had only played the two games I hosted a couple of years prior (ProgArchives), but since then I feel it's come to form a unique blend of the two cultures that I'm really happy with. I also recruited heavily from literally every part of my RL friend pool (high school, college, work, etc.), so many of my best friends play mafia here as well, and I know others of us have recruited similarly, so the player base isn't restricted to the two original groups, not by a long shot. Especially now with Roxy bumping into Thingyman on another mafia site and we've started building solid bridges between our site and other mafia communities, we've been introduced to many new mafia people with different perspectives this year... and I, for one, have loved it! I really can't express how excited I am to be a host for this first official crossover game!
The people are what keep me from investing so much of what free time I do have in this site and it wouldn't be what it is without them.
I feel like as a site we're also pretty open to new ways of looking at mafia games, although as Roxy and others noted, there are some norms here that I will be actively trying to break one by one over my coming games.
Everything you can want to know about the game setup should be in the Gameplay and Rules section on the first page (it will be included in the main game thread as well), but if you look it over and have any questions, definitely let me and Sloonei know, and feel free to always ask folks in the thread too, depending on what the question is. No one will be bothered by engaged players wanting to know more about how we do things around here, that's for sure.

Thanks for clearing up my question MP, any idea when we will be starting know that we have 25 players?
Re: [SIGN-UPs] Talking Heads Mafia (RYM #90)
Also as a newcomer to this forum, I can assure the others they are very laid back and this has been the best site I've found to play mafia on. I also still don't know all the lingo, but they are very patient in explaining it to me.

I wanted to add... Golden covered some of the various abbreviations you'll see; I also happened to think of BTSC, since it's a common one and I don't think other communities really use it. It basically designates any kind of communication outside of the game thread, so mafia teams typically have it during days and nights, and civilians may have it if the role has an ability stating such.
Welcome!! Hope you enjoy mafia at The Syndicate. Are you for #team rym or #team syndicate?Rbzmncaeaei wrote:greetings

Re: [SIGN-UPs] Talking Heads Mafia (RYM #90)
I'm glad you asked, since I was just typing up something regarding this! Now I can just quote your post. :Psig wrote:Also as a newcomer to this forum, I can assure the others they are very laid back and this has been the best site I've found to play mafia on. I'm so glad that we've hit 25 players! That's our minimum. Nice going, everyone!
However, as much as I'm impatiently waiting to start this game, and I'm sure many of you are, I do not want to start right now. This game setup was designed for 25 since that's what I thought we would probably get, but it started as 19 (a speed game) before I changed it to a crossover setup, and it's very flexible. I already have roles in mind by which to expand it, in case we had increased demand. I firmly believe we will have increased demand. Worst case scenario and we do not, I at least want to leave open a bit of time to see if we do.
There are still some RYM folks that I want to make sure have had the chance to sign up over here and sign up before we start. I reached out to a handful or so privately yesterday, and if I think of any others who don't know about it I'll do so today. Jay and Sloonei have done a really good job of hyping the game up and disseminating information about it, but I want to be sure the word has spread absolutely.
The same goes for TS. I'm pretty sure there will be at least a few folks here who haven't signed up yet that want to play, or may want to play but haven't committed yet since they are in multiple games or unsure or whatever.
Thinking over it right now, I think I would like to leave sign-ups open another 3 - 7 (???) days. Let me hear back from Sloonei and we'll decide on a firm date ASAP, and then I'll post it immediately here.

Alright, after talking with Sloonei, here's what we've decided:
Sign-ups will close at 8:00PM Eastern time on Wednesday, September 30th.
The game will start 24 hours later, at 8:00PM Eastern time on Thursday, October 1st. We will start with a Day 0. You will receive your roles sometime during that time frame.
We'll take as many players as we can get, so there is no real maximum. I will be PMing everyone here on The Syndicate shortly so that folks are aware. I'll need help from RYMers to likewise tell everyone over there as well.

Made a theme while I was sleeping
And Mega Man was planted in my brain

Actually I'm going to have to slip down to a maybe, sorry! I'm going to be away for the first week of the game and I doubt I'll have much time to get online at all. Plus with me not hearing back from my job interview til Friday at the latest (though I'm pessimistic anyway) I might be too busy to actually play. If you need a replacement a few days down the line, I will do it if I can.

Yeah, sorry :P I'd completely forgot I was going down to my dad's until my brother texted me today, and I'm supposed to be meeting him in Wrexham tomorrow! Hadn't even bought the train ticket yet. Like I knew I was going because me and my brother are gonna watch the new DBZ movie in Manchester tomorrow night before we go down to dad's, I'd just for some reason not put it together that the first week of October begins this Thursday and was thinking it was ages away.MovingPictures07 wrote:Well, way to get my hopes up.Bullzeye wrote:Actually I'm going to have to slip down to a maybe, sorry! I can't believe it's practically October myself! Where is this semester going?
Haha, not a problem. So, we're at 28. Keep it coming, folks! You have a day and 7 hours or so.

Are you sure you aren't a doctor though, Wilgy? When did you last check?

MP, when you finally get your PhD, you should have everyone refer to you as Dr. MP and you can go around referring to everybody as not a doctor :P
