Re: Video Game Discussion
I just spent like the last 6 hours watching EVO 2015. Street Fighter is on point this year but a lot of big names getting dropped in pools.
Bass The Clever: This is some of the weird shit that happens at these tournaments sometimes.
Also download Gears 3 so you, me, and MP can play that shit

I'm so terrible at Gears of War 3. It is a pretty fun game though, especially considering I'm not a big FPS guy.

You guys gonna be on tonight? I'll probably be back at my house in like an hour or two. Only things going on at EVO today that I care about is Marvel and I prefer the finals over pools for that game normally. So I wont really be tuned into EVO today.
Tomorrow on the other hand? Shiiiieeeeett. USF4 and Marvel finals on the same day? In there like swimwear baby.

For the current Steam Sale:
If anyone is looking for cool indiegames, many of which don't get a whole lot of attention from the press, here's a big list.
Of the ones on that list, I would recommend:
Cave Story+ (Probably my favourite out of this list. Great gameplay, music and characters all around. Extremely difficult on higher difficulties, but it's a testament to the quality of the game that I bothered to finish the game on Hard).
Crypt of the Necrodancer (Roguelike + Rhythm. Awesome music, cool gameplay.)
Dustforce (A bit like Super Meat Boy, but more difficult. Controls are a bit more flaky but they never annoyed me).
FTL (Roguelike in space)
Guacamelee (Cool metroidvania action game. Also, you can transform into a chicken)
La Mulana (Old school metroidvania game. Long and incredibly difficult to complete on your own. I certainly needed help.)
Nimbus (You're in a rocket. Use momentum to get to the finish line. Surprisingly fun.)
Papers, Please (GLORY TO ARSTOTZKA)
Risk of Rain (Very cool game until you've gotten all the Artifacts. Then it becomes a snoozefest unless you impose restrictions on your powers yourself)
Before the Echo ($0.99! Sequence on that list. Rhythm game where you control three DDR-style panels of arrows to battle enemies. Cool game with cool music)
Shovel Knight (Megaman, but with a shovel.
SPACECHEM (Only $0.99! My favourite puzzle game ever. Infinite possibilities to solve and optimize the puzzles. Will get fiendishly difficult fast.)
Spelunky (You will die. A lot. But it will be your own fault every single time. Randomly generated levels keep it fresh and exciting.)
Super Hexagon ( $1.01! Definition of pick up and play. I have this game on my tablet as well. I've still only beaten the last level a couple of times as it's insanely difficult, but very fun)
Toki Tori 2 (It's only 75 cents atm, and that is easily worth it. The game mastefully learns you all the new mechanics you need to get through the game. You can go everywhere from the beginning, but chances are you won't be able to figure out how right away)
I didn't expect this list to get this big

Re: Video Game Discussion
The Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've ever played. It has such a great story and a lot of awesome lore. I started with the Witcher 2 for the 360 when it was free . A friend of mine suggested that I read about the story to that point and I'm glad I did because it made The Witcher 2 and 3 even better, it also made sense of a lot of the references the characters use in the game. From the music to the landscape it's a beautiful game. I give it a 9.5 out of ten. I highly recommend playing it, but read the synopsis of the first two, or watch one of the many videos on YouTube that will catch you up.reywaS wrote:The Witcher 3..anyone played it? oh cool. Thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely do that. The game looks completely bat shit crazy (And I find that to be a good thing) so a crash course on game lore seems appropriate.Bass_the_Clever wrote:The Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've ever played. Re: Video Game Discussion
How are the books? I got two of the graphic novels and I enjoyed them.
Spoiler: show
Re: Video Game Discussion
The books are really fun, easy to read, and aren't that long. First two ones are anthologies and the other five form a huge, single, narrative arc, which if you finish is actually where the first Witcher game starts off. I highly recommend them. I played Witcher 1 first, then read the books, then played the second one. My enjoyment was immense since I knew who the characters appearing were.
Re: Video Game Discussion
I got Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast on the Steam sale for $2.50.

I've just discovered a full-game length "mod" of Fallout 2 (my favorite game ever) called "Fallout 1.5" set between the events of 1 and 2. I am nerdgasming all over my laptop right now just thinking about it. It's isometric and everything.

Alright, nutella, come over here and talk the Witness!
I haven't actually quite clocked it yet. There are a few black obelisks that I've finished but a few I haven't (one in particular, the one near the ruins in the desert, I'm a long way off).
I'm trying to be relatively spoiler-free, but what I love most about it is the moments of realisation that you get.

Yeah my housemates and I still haven't entirely finished but we've done most of it and it's amazing. The eureka moments are great and really fun to do with a group of people. And we've had long nerdy interpretive discussions about all the multi-layered metaphors in how the game is constructed, and in how it teaches you to think in "puzzle language," and all that.Golden wrote:Alright, nutella, come over here and talk the Witness!
