I've just discovered a full-game length "mod" of Fallout 2 (my favorite game ever) called "Fallout 1.5" set between the events of 1 and 2. I am nerdgasming all over my laptop right now just thinking about it. It's isometric and everything.

Alright, nutella, come over here and talk the Witness!

I haven't actually quite clocked it yet. There are a few black obelisks that I've finished but a few I haven't (one in particular, the one near the ruins in the desert, I'm a long way off).

I'm trying to be relatively spoiler-free, but what I love most about it is the moments of realisation that you get.

Yeah my housemates and I still haven't entirely finished but we've done most of it and it's amazing. The eureka moments are great and really fun to do with a group of people. And we've had long nerdy interpretive discussions about all the multi-layered metaphors in how the game is constructed, and in how it teaches you to think in "puzzle language," and all that.

Anyone playing Breath of the Wild yet? My housemates have been playing it (on our Wii U) and it's SO GOOD. Fucking gorgeous art/aesthetics, really really cool mechanics + puzzles, even more cool stuff. Beautiful, fantastically crafted game. I don't really have much familiarity with previous Zelda games other than some passing knowledge but this is a goddamn work of art.

I want it so badly, but unfortunately have other priorities. Maybe one of these days I can just take a week off of work, hole up in my house, spend a few hundred on a switch and Zelda, and play for 18 hours a day 9 days in a row.

...

Wishful thinking.

So I have been pretty balls deep in some really good games.
Nioh was great love the combat and everything about it. It was kinda difficult at first but I never played a dark souls game before. Once I figured out the combat it was on and crackin.

Mass Effect Andromeda - I haven't beaten it year but getting close. I like this game but there are some bugs they need to fix. It's a combat is fun and the story is great it really reminded me that we are just specks of sand in the universe.

Last but not least

Horizon Zero Dawn- It's truely an amazing game in my book. Set in apocalypse like future. You are a girl named Alloy, and your whole goal was to figure out what happened to the people that were on the earth 100 of years before you are. The people like us that are now not there because machine dinosaurs are roaming the earth killing anything that comes near then. I quickly became a master of the bow and arrow striking down any mechanical beast they got near me.The combat is a lot of fun. The story was well told and it was definitely worth checking out.

Rise of the Tomb Raider- it's the second game in the Tomb Raider revamp and it's so much fun. From the combat to the puzzles and even the music and sound effects. It all makes for one hell of a game and had me saying Nathan Drake who?

I wanna bring this thread back to life!! So is there anything that people are playing or have played recently that's worth talking about? I just finished the new Mass Effect game. Before that was Horizon Zero Dawn. I have Nioh sitting around waiting to be beat and just finished the story of Injustice 2.

YAAAASSS Horizon Zero Dawn is amaze-balls. I haven't played it in a bit cuz i've been playing my friend's copy, but a very fun game i'm enjoying so far. Also been playing the Crash Trilogy. I don't remember the game being so hard, but it's "fun" regardless. The lack of an easy infinite lives glich early game is kinda killing me.

So I finally beatthe post game content for Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia Echoes. And decided to do some digging for explanations. Spoilers ahead for those who don’t already know.
Spoiler: show

After you beat the game you can cross the ocean to Archanea which is where the first and third games take place. Remind you that FE:SoVE is a remake of the second game and the 16th in the series I believe. So this bonus dungeon is tough. 10 floors of max level enemies and dragons. And as you go there’s these tablets that describe this dude named Forneus and the dungeon itself is the ruined city of Thabes. So long story short, Forneus makes these masks out of these weird insects in pursuit of a life form and he tries to do just that with an Earth Dragon that he somehow obtained. He becomes possessed and it leads to the creation of this Crazy strong dragon who can in turn control the zombies called “Masks” in the game.

Here’s where we connect the story. The Creation as it’s called is classed as a Fell Dragon. And to even access it you have to remove this shield acting as a seal to the second part of the dungeon. For those of you who played FE Awakening. Youll recognize this bonus dungeon boss as the big bad: Grima. And the masks you fight with Alm/Celica turn out to be the Risen enemy archetype from awakening as well. Still not convinced? Archanea is the entire continent that Awakening takes place on. Just having new provinces. In turn, Valentia becomes Valm since Awakening takes place some couple hundred years after FE: Echoes.

My only question left is the time between the end of Echoes and the Start of Awakening. There’s gotta be some more content that can be made somewhere aside from Alm/Celica killing Grima with Falchion. Then Grima suddenly has a cult and stuff. Not to mention how the Falchion moves around between heroes all the time. I didn’t see this in the wikis either but the seal used on Grimas/Forneus’ lab resembles the Fire Emblem.

But yeah fun stuff I learned tonight

I thought it was decent, but not something you absolutely need to play. It's got good humor from what I can remember though. Also good if you're looking for an non(obvious)-fantasy RPG with decent length.

It's different enough to be worth playing. But most people don't actually love it. I didn't.

The humor is smart and different (dialogue, enemies, plot are all pretty funny), the gameplay feels fresh at some points despite being a SNES game (though it feels really outdated at other points).

The first half is really hard so if you want hard RPGs it can provide that. Sadly it loses all difficulty once you gain access to the game's main weapons.

And it's the prequel for Mother 3, which is Earthbound with an actual good plot.

You guys like platformers reminiscent of the golden days of flash?

Then may i suggest trying out Squirm on the Steam market place. It's difficult with a simple but effective soundtrack. and just enough mystery about it's world to keep you wondering what exactly is going on. It's only $1 and sometimes even goes on sale for half off. a great way to burn off 3-4 hours of time if you so choose :D

So I'm not sure if anyone's heard about it, but GameFAQs is holding a Character Battle.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/features/cbx

It's a contest thing where 136 characters fight in popularity polls, and you get to make brackets to bet on them. If you live in USA/Canada you might also win money.

It kind of reminds me of Smashfest except it's poll-based instead of video-based. Actually when I first saw Smashfest I was like "it's character battle but with videos!" (I've been participating those things since 2006).

Anyway, just advertising because it's a nerdy thing I want to share.

Oh I just saw this. Glad you're enjoying it! I have my small quibbles with the game, particularly the DLC, but it oozes charm and the Conductor is perfect.

My headcanon is that he's a chocobo, but that doesn't explain the lack of eyes. Or really anything about him.

Just wait, though, the other best character is in the third world.

No spoilers, but Undertale just got a free sequel/prequel/demo/game/survey thing.

I have no idea how long it is, whether it's a complete product, or anything else. It just came out, and I don't think anyone has completed it enough to say. I'll be avoiding all spoilers. But hey, if you're an Undertale fan, it's worth your time just for the interactive story bits I've hit so far.
