Assuming the idea here is that the positions will rotate throughout the game, I think the earliest stage (right now) would seem the ideal time to choose the position which features the most potentially frustrating roles that don't involve murdering someone. That would include things like lynch switches and day restarts -- both position 5. I'd rather have annoying things like those in play when the game is young than when we're dealing in a more evidence-based thread and vote choices are more meticulous. I'm still poking around though.

OK, just from looking at the marquee roles, I was leaning position two, but these position 2 points are not so great:
War Monger - Warrior Clan
Position 1: Mind Control
Position 2: The Hunger
Position 3: ?
Position 4: ?
Position 5: Competition
THE HUNGER? No fucking way.
Highborn Assassin - Warrior Clan
Position 1: Seemer
Position 2: Parasite
Position 3: Power Steal
Position 4: Night Kill Survive
Position 5: Silence
Parasite? No fucking way.
Master of Ancient Arts - Brotherhood Clan
Position 1: Switches two targets
Position 2: Picks 5 people for a negative vote
Position 3: Turns into a Dragon
Position 4: Choose a player, if they are targeting someone they need to pick a new target
Position 5: Choose 3 other players to protect, they start the next day with three votes each
This is not that bad, but still, not that great. Although position 3, turns into a DRAGON!!!! Awesome, but also terrifying. Flames, ouch.
Brutal Executioner - Warrior Clan
He chooses a player, the kill goes through if they are the right clan.

How did the parasite role work in the first game? If I recall correctly, Pangy had that, yes? He targeted Bree, right? That did not work out well for him I wish we had the Piano database :(

The position that seems the least troublesome to me at the moment is #4, despite having a couple kills. I think that one can be saved for later while something annoying can be favored now, like #5. Leaning that direction.

I don't necessarily disagree; I just was surprised, especially when you were perhaps one of the most analytic and vocal players during the Death Note Day 0.

Your explanation is logical enough, but I don't find fault with analyzing the positions to see if a good enough XX% helpful decision is possible.

aapje, also, I'm not the host, but I think your question is answered by the fact that BR and LC haven't updated the player list to include Canucklehead (37 instead of 36), so I think that 5 vanillas makes sense. It'll be good to get confirmation nonetheless.

If you look at all of the roles, there are horrible possibilities with all the positions. The one that looked best to me initially, position 2, includes the Hunger! (For those of you that have not played a Recruitment game, The Hunger is a horrible role that kills you in horrible ways for vague reasons. Having BEEN the Hunger and having been a victim of it, in two different games, I will say the Hunger sucks).

I think DH may be right. All options have positives and negatives, and that is how the hosts intended it.

Are some of the powers usable a limited number of times or are all powers usable whenever the corresponding position is effect?
For instance, could the lynch be switched every time position 2 or 5 comes up?

Which teams are the civvies and who are the baddies? Based on the descriptions I'd say Caelia and Ahriman as civvies while Ubzargan and Azura sound more like baddies. However only the first 2 have kills listed. Or do the baddie teams have kills regardless of position?

Will we get more elaborate descriptions on some of the roles? Quite a lot aren't very clear what they do.

I'll contribute.

The adverb usage is no different than anything else when analyzing whether someone is telling a lie -- you have to first develop a baseline, and even then, it is far from an indicative factor on its own.

I refuse to buy into the fact that a player's adverb usage is any more effective at finding baddies in online mafia than the roll of a die.

Mafia hunting like a maniac will be a tough task given the current faction ratios. I might have to delay my behavior by a day. I've never played in anything like this (except maybe Game of Thrones Mafia on RYM, but that's only barely similar), so I'm not sure what strategies I might employ yet.

I endorse this.

I haven't had time yet to actually do my own analysis of which options are best, but I think it's a great idea to get horrible stuff out of the way early. The one problem is that most of the roles we don't know what alignment they will be, so I'd probably give more weight to getting things which are frustrating no matter what side of the fence they are on.

I'm with Jay, the thread locking looks the most annoying of anything, despite how terrifying The Hunger and other roles are.
