This doesn't seem right for unfurl to end the day early, but this is the finaly tally I came up with. Everyone had 1 vote except unfurl who had 2. This makes more sense for someone like BWT to be the one who stopped the lynch.

2 - unfurl
  • DrWilgy (1), MovingPictures07 (3)
1 - birdwithteeth11
  • Devin the Omniscient (7)
1 - Canucklehead
  • Spacedaisy (9)
1 - DrWilgy
  • DisgruntledPorcupine (6)
1 - Epignosis
  • Golden (2)
1 - Golden
  • Epignosis (4)
1 - MovingPictures07
  • unfurl (11)
1 - Russtifinko
  • bea (8)
1 - S~V~S
  • Scotty (5)
1 - Tranq
  • G-Man (10)

Scotty, to answer your question, I believe a submitted request to pardon a lynch would have to be PM'd before the PM asking that the day be ended early, to count. So we've got the Guardians, a couple of likely unrecruits and Ubzargan. Personally, I'm not to try to hurt my brain over this tonight, lol.

@Bea, I'm pretty sure Black Rock confirmed that in a post somewhere, that a team continues to recruit etc after their leader is dead. Check back to be sure, but I think she said that at some point.

I would agree. A pardon has to be sent in before a normal lynch ends anyway, so I imagine that if the lynch ends early, the pardon must still be sent in first, as you say.

I disagree entirely. Carlos should not use her pardon today; that way if someone survives a lynch we'll know it's the baddie recruiter who is immune in Position 1.

That;s what I was thinking, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask the omnipotent and benevolent hosts:

@Hosts If a day is ended early, do submitted day powers after such time count?

If that theory is true, I find it even MORE unlikely that Caelia would have pardoned it early. (I also may be confused- does she have to target someone to pardon a lynch, or just pardon the overall day lynch?)

Posting the poll tally would be good, but if voting will stay changeable, it won't be a fully accurate reflection of how votes evolved, especially if things get manipulated (granted, there won't be another early day end until we return to position 1).

I'm gonna double-check MM's list in a bit.

Please do. I'm confident in my checks through everyone's posts (those I needed to check), but the results weren't what I expected. There was so much chatter about BWT, I thought he would have had the most votes, not unfurl.

That definitely wasn't the case in Recruitment III when the Musketeers could submit their vote manip at any time they wanted, during the Day as well.
Hmm, I didn't last long enough to notice that, ok I see your point, them!
I can atest to that - they were REALLY good about using the manips when people weren't suspeciting. It's how I lived so long. We played the +2 - 2 +1 maths in ways everyone forgot about.

timmer wrote:Do all recruitment contests state which leader it is for? Could someone truly only apply to civ teams?
If I remember correctly, the beginning recruitments were stated as team specifc - as they went along, the hosts dropped who was recruiting.

So yes, you could try to be only recrutited to the the civs, but at some point - if you enter a contest, it might make you land anywhere.

I think - from a player perspective the hosts are shooting for - if you want to be in a spot, work for it. IF you don't care, let the crap shoot take ccare of it later.

Though I could be wrong.

And also - just because you TRY for a contest reruitent for a side, doesn't mean you win. And on the civ side, doesn't mean that the civ team you are on knows that YOU have been recruited to their team.

I think? IDK - I was baddie mc badderson so I got totes bts

Bea's analysis is pretty accurate here, except to my recollection, we aren't likely to make the later recruitments more vague with regard to which team is recruiting. Otherwise, I think everything she said is the way it is.

There are unanswered questions out there.... this is a talkative thread. If a question has gone unanswered, then please feel free to ask again. In fact, if y'all want to work together, you could keep a record of unanswered questions, and re-post it on a semi-regular basis. That's currently my best solution to ensure that all questions are answered.

Well, except I missed some (votes started being made with 24 hours left in the Day, plus there were some switches until the Day was ended, too), here's the tally I got, in order:

Epignosis (1) - voted by Golden
Unfurl (1) - voted by MP
Golden (1) - voted by Epignosis
SVS (1) - voted by Scotty
(Rico (1) - voted by DP)
Rico (2) - voted by Wilgy (are you freaking kidding me, I almost got lynched??)
Wilgy (1) - voted by DP (vote switched from Rico) = Rico now (1)
BWT (1) - voted by Devin
Russ (1) - voted by bea
Canuck (1) - voted by Spacedaisy
Tranq (1) - voted by G-Man
MP (1) - voted by unfurl

So EL OH EL, I almost died and the tally looks like a 1-vote tie between everyone. Plus, after the Day ended, 21 more votes or so didn't count for anything.

My preliminary thoughts:
I don't think Caelia would have sent a lynch pardon at this point, unless she really didn't want anything to happen on D1 or anything to happen with the players most talked about or suspected at that time (off the top of my head, I'd say BWT and Golden/Epig).

Question: what happens officially in case of a tie?

Unless the Hosts actually tell us who would have been lynched, I think we'll have a very hard time figuring out if any of these players had lynch nullifying or surviving abilities. But I suppose it's still good to narrow them down as possible candidates. (You can count me out, I don't have any such ability).

All this, of course, needs further assumption the Lord of Thunder didn't take off or put extra votes himself by that time.

Huh, looking at MM's list, I may have failed to spot where Wilgy voted unfurl, although I'm pretty sure he voted unfurl first (it was the earliest vote of the Day) and then switched to me, prompting DP to switch from me to Wilgy. So I think I got it right.

Ugh. I remember DrWilgy voting for unfurl without posting it. Unfortunately, I cannot remember every single vote switch that took place, so I can't really speak for anything else that is not concrete. :sigh:

Linki: yeah this is rough. I tried opening up older versions of pages to find the poll from that time. Unfortunately, I had never looked at the poll before I voted, so it didn't exist in my history. But I'll go ahead and post a copy of the final poll anyway.

Thanks. I edited votes when they switched on my spreadsheet, so I don't have their actual evolution either. This is the best I can track from the posts (and from knowing how Wilgy switched, in his case).

Have to go now, laterz.

Linki: I spent like an hour looking through all the other votes before 5:46 PM, so I didn't feel like making the normal poll look pretty.

For the record, if I could pick a position in the current poll, I'd vote for Position 5.

A pretty version of the official tally (as in until the Day was ended) would be nice to confirm.

linki: Lol, MM, so this time you want the Day to be restarted. :P

Also, let it be noted that Death Note post record is almost sure to be smashed, the way we've been posting so far. D1 ended around page 24 over there and I thought the D0/D1 banter was brutal there. Clearly Recruitement ranks above all and beyond.

I've been bad here too more than once - though only once sucessfully and one other time *near* sucessfully. *curses LC!!! AGIAN!*

but yea, my natural play state is civ. I try to play to being the Bea that runs around the OT threads as being the Bea that plays mafia. And thankyou for thinking I read civ, it's my comfort zone. mostlhy- in games and out of games, I just try to be me. For better or worse..

I have a slight gut read that SVS has some power in this game, and I don't like it. So nothing against you, SVS, but you got my vote day 1.
Scotty has never played a RM before. Scotty assumed everyone is vanilla like in previous games. Scotty would not know about this. Scotty must have been told about this.
Unless I am misinterpreting the highlighted line...

Additionally, this is a huge contradiction. "Random vote"-->I think SVS is bad???
Ah, I see Dom was needling in on me. Fair enough, it was a little contradictory. Here's the longer explanation now that I'm not as rushed.

Because I don't see the use in complete random, my randomization was not so much random on the scale of the entire list of players, but a list of players that had more content-filled posts. Unlike the Day 0/1's from previous games, I didn't feel like looking at MIAs for the first lynch. It was theorized by numerous people throughout the day who had a better chance to recruit and who would be recruited. I don't think a recruiter would pick someone with a very low post count. Maybe someone with a slightly low count to remain hidden, sure. But someone like, say, DFaraday I don't see as Recruiter or Recruitee.

I looked at the big talkers that had recruiting strategies- Epi and Golden and their spat didn't stand out to me as recruiters/recruitees. MP, SVS, JJJ, birdwithteeth, Rico, etc were in the mix. But I had no real inclination between those, though I figured one of them maybe had some sort of overarching, suspicious recruiting method. SVS stood out to me early on for her recruiting strategy of someone that was smarter than her, works well as a team player and could swim under the radar. She seemed to really know what she was talking about, and that would scare me if she were the recruiter. But I really could have voted any of them. So I guess it was random in the sense that I just picked one that didn't seem to be causing too much of a ruckus or on anyone's radar. In the end, it's a day 1 vote.

Also I don't have any idea what you're talking about with me "clearly in BTSC". I think you've got that aluminum foil hat on a little too tight. When I say "power" of course I don't mean abilities. I'm stupid, but not that stupid. (Though I did watch the rain with my head tilted up and my mouth open as a child.)
I guess power wasnt the best word choice in hindsight, but I was rushing off to work. Think of it more as "regard" or "esteem".

"Scotty assumed everyone is vanilla like in previous game"
wtf? When did I say that? Oh, I didn't. Please don't put words in my mouth, Dom. I'm only a child at heart, not by intelligence or temperament.

It's true that I'm not used to this type of game, but I'm learning as I go.

Now I sleep. Good night, and most likely see you all for day 2 tomorrow when I get off work at 11p est

So my theory so far is shaping up like this:

if the stats are correct that a 1-vote 11-player tie took place and a player gets lynched through randomization, then it must mean the player who got lynched survived the lynch, according to his position 1

ergo any of the following players (BWT, Canuck, Epignosis, Golden, MP, Russ, SVS, Tranq, Unfurl, Wilgy - I'm not, but feel free to throw me in as well; I would have super dead and super pissed if I would have been lynched or if the Day would have ended with me having two votes) can be:

Ubzargan the Ruthless - Immune to NK/Lynch
Jilted Lover - Can’t die as long as ? alive

I don't believe that Lord of Thunder's +/-3 votes would have changed this situation, if he already manipulated something by the time the Day ended. either he added votes and then there is definitely a specific survivor, which Lordy may now choose to try to hint at; either he substracted votes and it's still a large pool of tied players and the theory above still applies, but with vague chances of pinpointing at anyone in particular

same with Windscout, we don't know how many votes he can take down, but I doubt it's up to 10

I'm not sure if The Immortal's random power can activate during the Day, but even if it can, it's really a stretch to imagine that he protected someone that early and the stars aligned so that the one person he randomly protected was the one person that randomly got lynched; plus, we haven't seen a second death

same with Terras. can he protect during the Day? if so, same stretch of the imagination

If I missed anything, let me know, but so far I believe this to be the conclusion: our non-lynched player today is Uzbargan or the Jilted Lover. unfortunately we have 11 candidates for this spot

Position 3: Follow a player in the shadows and see who that player targets, affect the outcome.
Position 4: Cast a shadow on a player, all votes for that player will be cut in half
Position 5: Become a shadow, you can’t be night targeted and all votes for you will not count

Thank you for this, Scotty. This I can get behind. I have done similar things myself, eliminated people i did not suspect, and randomized between those that pinged me. So it's random, but it's not.

And I DO know alot about recruiting in Mafia, and have thought about it alot. I have played all four of BR & LCs Recruitment games (including this one), and was a recruiter in two of them. I have played in maybe a dozen games where recruiting was a major element. Every game I have hosted has involved recruiting, although not like THIS game. I have also had amazing teams; teams where the BTS itself was so much fun, and so close to perfect, that I know EXACTLY what I want in a team, and I hope to get it every game. It's the main reason I tend to prefer baddie roles, becasue they come with BTSC, and this next team might be the one. Although, tbh, nothing is better than civvie BTS. My favorite game ever was Sword of Truth on The Piano; I was a civvie, Kahlan, and I recruited a player, Typhoony, and what he brought to the table totally changed the dynamic of the game. We lost, but it still was my best game, and I always am trying to recreate that atmosphere if I can. So yeah, I know what I am looking for in a recruit, and like Bea said, it should ALWAYS be people you think are smarter than you, lol.

Linki, ah charts.

I have a bunch of things to do today, then I have a D & D game this after noon, so I won't be around much. Toodles.
