Hey, Epignosis. Guess what I'm reading now.

Clue #1: On my phone, since it's not in stock or even translated.

Clue #2: Long enough to probably take me until March, considering how I've mishandled Atwood this summer.

Clue #3: What the heck are alewives?

Well it was either that or https://www.amazon.com/Big-New-Yorker-B ... 0679644776.

You've interpreted "not found or translated in Nauru" with obscure, though, which I wouldn't say is the case.

Just finished reading Agatha Christie's Murder in the Links.

It's a pretty fucking great book. Has a zillion plot twists and like every book from Agatha, it's engineered to make you fail to guess them. Not my favorite book from her though, because they are all amazing. But great.

I started to re-read 4.50 from Paddington a while back. I decided I was going to buy more of her collection, but I never had the chance.

I am currently reading Meddling Kids. It's a fun take on a Scooby Doo parody. The target demographic is not the same though, that's for sure.

I just finished Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential," which I picked up for a quarter at a library used book sale. It's hugely entertaining — the guy is an amateur writer, but he loves his subject and uses the language of his people (chefs) to great effect. Recommended.

I am in the middle of Sam Sykes Bring Down Heaven trilogy. It is a really good time, funny, smart, supernatural. I have been told that is like the best DnD game ever-- as I never played that I can't exactly give you an answer there. But it made me snicker three or four times in the first chapter of the first book and I have laughed out loud several other times.

I am also in love with an ancillary character Kudj and I am so worried he is gonna die. :why: Love= Death people. Love = Death.

Back in the reading habit again. Still fighting through the dictionary. I'm into letter U now though, so it's pretty easy sailing from here on out.

Interesting words from January:
-Times sign
-Today
-Toss
-Tragus
-Trump
-Turnspit
-Turtle/Turtledove

This latest post is actually my update through the end of February. I'm currently on the second and last page of the letter X.

Interesting words from February:

-Verbalism
-Verruca
-Vigintillion
-Violaceous
-Vodka

Three of the five words in that list weren't recognized by spell check. :p

Good question. I did not know there was a trilogy or genre for each of her histories? I'm not sure if I read the entire biography or it was divided but the former perhaps.

lapluie Oh,sorry I was not clear. I wasn't talking about a series of books, but a series of women :)

I ordered this, it is about the Queen of Romania, who was a fascinating person. She used a literary pseudonym, Carmen Sylva. She was a fairly prolific writer in several genres. Very unusual and independant for her time and position in society.

This book looks like a good read, I look forward to it.

I started Michael Chabon’s Telegraph Avenue the other day, about a pair of record store owners circa 2004. I love most of his books but read his debut a few months ago and hated it, so here’s hoping it’s not like that one! His style is not for everybody, very show-offy, but something about it just hits the spot.

I finished reading the dictionary!

I figured out my original start date, so I managed to finish with a page-per-day count of greater than one (barely). My dictionary is 1,600 pages long. I finished on day 1,596.

I am relieved.

Meh. A French word by way of Latin roots. It probably didn't even register with me. Latin-derived words were so plentiful that it was boring. Sometimes MW would try to force non-Latin-derived words into a connection with a Latin word. That irked me every time. It was like the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding who claimed he could trace any word back to Greek.

(what's this, a moongoose?)

I've just started reading my first Roth, but it's Portnoy.

Reading Miller was, uhm, "educational" for me back when I was 14-15. Read quite a lot (both Tropics and the Rosy trilogy), but I couldn't tell you now which stood out most. Probably Cancer over Capricorn iirc.

I'm reading Another Stupid Spell right now. It's an indie book about a high-fantasy orc who is smarter than all of the other orcs. He learns how to cast magic.

The first words of the book are "Me smart orc."

I'll review it when I'm done with it.

Jay's done a number on you, huh :p

I really want to read Romance of the Three Kingdoms after Epi's game, I'm going to buy it at some point. Who knew mafia games could lead you into deep historical literature, but it can.
