Ugh, he’d probably just tediously ask everyone to explain their every thought.
What do you mean by that, Sloonei?
Why do you ask?
I’m Socratic
Please, I’m way more cratic.
To be fair, ‘so’ is only like a 7 or 8 out of 10, so I won’t contradict you.

juliets wrote: Sun Apr 22, 2018 8:08 am Hello everybody! I am the facilitator for this game. As JJJ said in his first rule, please be mindful of how your words might affect others beyond the scope of a mafia game. If you find yourself irritated, frustrated or downright angry at someone else please contact me to work through that. Please do not erupt in the thread and please refrain from throwing personal insults at another person. I am fine with you yelling at or insulting me instead! Also note if I think I see something brewing I will reach out to you and see if I can help.

A word about my schedule: I work from about 10:00 to 1:15 three to four days a week so I'm out of the thread those days from about 9:30 am - 1:30 pm. If you try to contact me during that time know that I will get back to you as soon as I get home. Finally, this is an awesome players list and I'm jealous that I'm not playing with you. And welcome new people, yay!
thank you, juliets! you're my fav! <3 I'll be sure to check in with you at various points in this game, don't worry. :nicenod:

The Persians are crossing the Aegean.

Darius leads a Persian fleet through the Grecian archipelago and lands at the island of Euboea. Strategists indicate that his most likely landing spot on the mainland to be in the area of Marathon in northeastern Attica. The region must be reinforced immediately, or Athens will be exposed. Gather those of able body and make way for the coast. Gods save us.

Day 1 begins. You have 48 hours to lynch someone.

That's pretty much history, right?
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame.
That predates classical antiquity. If anything it united the city states against another flourishing rival. The trojan war was a necessity and according to Virgil and the Aeneid it eventually led to the foundation of Rome.

I like his olive branch deal. Takes guts, seems genuine. Scotty has to know he could draw attention to himself by stating that. The last thing mafia wants to do on Day 0/1 is draw attention.

I'm not implying anything; I just thought it was a bit presumptuous for sig to be all like "here's some info about wolbre!" before anyone even asked. It's sig though (I love the guy but he does say things without being prompted, so it's not out of character), and I don't think there's anything meaningful there upon reflection.

Okay. A few things.

What kind of question is "is he usually sincere?" What does that even mean? Explain.

For some players, sure. Tends to be more so for LP-based players or old timers, but in my assessment it's not strikingly out of character for Scotty to say something like this if that's what you're wondering. Typically Scotty likes to vote for lower-participants or lurkers on Day 1; he usually has some sort of underlying method to his early votes.

And I can assume that you are taking this a step forward and implying Scotty is being disingenuous? Why single him out for that, instead of someone such as yours truly who has made a few posts that could be considered overly friendly so far?

I don't believe he's ever been mafia and is still new to mafia as a whole compared to all of us, he's also deadily as an independent and in my opinion if he's one of those three trading guys he'll side with mafia for the lolz.
But no one asked about wolbre yet. :ponder:
what are you implying? why did you choose to call sig out on this but not Sloonei for his meta-comments on Choutas/Colin/Kites from RYM a post above yours?
I'm not implying anything; I just thought it was a bit presumptuous for sig to be all like "here's some info about wolbre!" before anyone even asked. It's sig though (I love the guy but he does say things without being prompted, so it's not out of character), and I don't think there's anything meaningful there upon reflection.
so in your own words, sig is being sig (sic).

:ponder:
I guess so. The man is an enigma. It nonetheless struck me in a particular way, like the tone was off.

Like you though, I'm struggling to gain anything meaningful re: sig's alignment from it. The reason I mentioned anything was to see what other discussion it might generate, specifically with respect to whether anyone found it similarly odd, and more significantly, alignment-indicative.

well, is he being sincere in his reasons to not vote for people he's never played with on day 1, giving us carte blance just cos we're new to him. or is he someone who can use fake sincerity for other motives.

players like Kenway, Glorf, and even Kites are sincere players imo. I'm asking if Scotty is similar or more deceitful in general.
M Plus 7 wrote: Sun Apr 22, 2018 6:33 pm For some players, sure. Tends to be more so for LP-based players or old timers, but in my assessment it's not strikingly out of character for Scotty to say something like this if that's what you're wondering. Typically Scotty likes to vote for lower-participants or lurkers on Day 1; he usually has some sort of underlying method to his early votes.
okay.
M Plus 7 wrote: Sun Apr 22, 2018 6:33 pm And I can assume that you are taking this a step forward and implying Scotty is being disingenuous? Why single him out for that, instead of someone such as yours truly who has made a few posts that could be considered overly friendly so far?
i've called you out on plenty of things already, but being overly friendly is not one of them. I didn't call Scotty overly friendly either, I'm saying his post implies an agreeable tone that people would struggle to go against.

Scotty used to be in the habit of voting low-posters early on. I think he did this in the Game of Champions but it started so long ago that I’m not sure.

Giving new/unfamiliar players a pass on Day 1 is not uncommon among the various cultures that The Syndicate grew up from. The tenants of this community are hospitality, murder, and mayhem.

I was up to date with the thread briefly and it's all downhill from here.

If I had to put money on MPs alignment, it's town. Like, literally his first post pinged people. That seems like town MP to me.

i'm leaning towards a scotty vote. is he usually sincere? is not voting for people you've never played with general etiquette? i've never played with him before but letting everyone he's never played with avoid his day 1 vote seems like a good way to seem friendly and agreeable.
Okay. A few things.

What kind of question is "is he usually sincere?" What does that even mean? Explain.

First MP begins to talk. Then his words become more and more sarcastic, until he dies. When he resurrects he becomes completely pedantic.

But I'm digging his line of undead pedantic sarcastic questioning, so I'll give it a town read.

Probably not, but I'll consider that response in more depth later.

MP is shady as shit when town; the question is whether any of the people who are pinged would normally see it that way.

I liked that MP kicked off the gameplay by offering a read on Scotty. Nothing had happened yet and MP breathed the first bit of life into the game.

I was less fond of his comment about sig’s post. Sig is a player who always draws suspicion, and MP was quick to put that on him here, directly or indirectly, for a post that I appreciated. There’s nothing wrong with offering perspective on a new and unfamiliar player if you’re priveleged to that information, it’s a nice thing to do.

I think this comes unconsciously from my first mafia game on...uh...whatever the site that sig comes from. I was NK’d day 1 and didn’t understand why. I didn’t even know what was going on, and i’m glad I kept with mafia. It really put me off tho and I’m glad I stuck with it. Not voting for people I don’t know then on D1 is indirectly related.

What that means for MP calling me good is a whole nother thing. I’m not sure I like it.

dunya it’s funny you’re questioning my sincerity because I was questioned by SVS about that in GOC and I was very town. I could very well be mafia here (and sorry teammates, if I am) but I still haven’t checked my role card.

I played pretty heavily from 2015 to mid 2017, then took a six month break, then hosted GoC. So I haven't probably played in close to a year, other than briefly in the Syndicate 2018 sock game (roleplaying as Marmot).
