I recently started getting into Leonard Cohen and am really enjoying him. The Monroe Transfer is pretty good for contemporary classical/post-rock. Have you heard of a band called The Magmas?

I think I've got a Leonardo Cohen album somewhere. I haven't heard of The Monroe Transfer so maybe i should look into that. I've heard The Magmas only had two good albums.
Maybe that is what i'll listen to tonight.

If you asked me 2 weeks ago, I would have said my ex, but then she became my ex, so... Probably accomplishing something like finishing a song or a paper. Also when people say nice things about me for no reason.

I used to think that I wasn't afraid of heights but it turns out I am actually very afraid of heights. I used to have lots of social anxiety, but that's mostly gone away. Apart from that, I'll sometimes have panic attacks because I think someone is behind me.

Who would you consider your musical influences?

Do you think people can hear your influences in your music?

What song do you most wish you wrote?

What instruments do you play? Do you sing too?
What is your favorite thing to do musicly and why?

I can haz mour linkz to your musikz?

What is the best advice you have ever gotten?

Do you cook?

What is your favorite beverage?

What is your guilty pleasure?

What music are you embarrassed to admit you like?

I saw you are starting to get into Lenard Cohan. Have you listened to Tom Waits and Nic Cave too? Is it weird that I always think of those three in their own little music genre?

Okay just got back home from vacation and I can now actually type at a normal speed.
bea wrote:Who would you consider your musical influences?
Not to sound pretentious, but I have but 1. Techno Animal. The collaboration of Kevin Martin and JK Broadrick is nothing short of magical and the two have explored and created so many musical genres. Over 20 years and neither has run out of steam.
Do you think people can hear your influences in your music?
I sometimes make it really obvious that I'm trying to sound like Techno Animal, but many of the parts are just me mixing stuff together that sounds good.
What song do you most wish you wrote?

What instruments do you play? Do you sing too?
Definitely saxophone, kinda guitar, maybe the piano kinda-ish? I use the computer for a lot of my stuff. I do sing in one song that I'm writing but that by no means means that I CAN
What is your favorite thing to do musicly and why?
Write a really really CRAZY measure or loop.
I can haz mour linkz to your musikz?
First (maybe second) link in my sig
What is the best advice you have ever gotten?
Something about how you can have the fastest car but you might as well not have it if you always keep it in the garage. Lots of people are born with talents and everyone is born with the potential for talent, but if you never hone in on it, it might as well not be there (I'm still working on defying that)
Do you cook?
Nope. :(
What is your favorite beverage?
90% of the time I drink water, but I really really love the taste of cream soda.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Procrastinating.
What music are you embarrassed to admit you like?
I'm usually okay with saying that I like what I like and that's that, though I might be hesitant to mention that I like Rise Against.
I saw you are starting to get into Lenard Cohan. Have you listened to Tom Waits and Nic Cave too? Is it weird that I always think of those three in their own little music genre?
Tom Waits yes, Nick Cave no. I've heard his name mentioned a lot so I'll have to check him out. I do understand what you mean by grouping them together, though. They're the only artists that sound quite like each other.

If I'm not learning music, listening to music, or making music, or playing mafia or dicking around online, I'm sleeping and eating (yes, at the same time). I enjoy writing with words so perhaps that could be a hobby, but I'll often put significant lines into songs. I also kinda like buying clothes to look cool but that's only so people will be friends with me.

Whatever my parents cook. Hooray for being 17.

Half a lifetime ago almost. As my wife said, enjoy the youth. When young you look forward to adulthood, but fuck all this. I'd trade it all for Saturday morning cartoons, a bowl of Cooke Crisp, and pretending to be Skeletor outside on my bike.

Cool you like to dress to impress and make friends, but lets say you cannot afford nice clothes or to even go shopping. What would you wear that you already own that is not very nice?

Don't underestimate the sweeping power of ignorance.

This week, a student was talking to another teacher in the hall. As I passed by, I heard the teacher mention "satire." I looked at the student and said, "Ah yes, satire! That's when a cat is sitting on your tire!"

I kid you not, the girl said, "Oh I wouldn't like that then. I don't like cats." I had kept moving and the girl asked the other teacher, "Is that what it really means?"

That isn't very nice? I have lots of nice clothes, but if I had to hold back, I'd wear a long sleeve unbuttoned flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled up (to the elbows) and a short sleeve single color shirt underneath. For pants I'd wear jeans, probably a very dark shade as to not look like exploding colors. For shoes I'd wear these simple Vans flat tops which is what I normally do.
Do you know who the Beatles are? If yes who is your favorite? What is your favorite song by them?
What does it mean "to know"? Can we ever really "know" something? Paul for songwriting Ringo for singing (haters gonna hate). Torn between Yesterday and Helter Skelter.
Your mom is playing music that hurts your ears and gives you a headache - what kind of music is it?
Country. It's always country.
What was the last junk food you ate?
A pop tart.
What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
I went to a theater festival this January when I had no involvement with theater whatsoever. During the time I went up to everyone and took selfies with them. We also filled up an elevator full of 20+ people. That's also how I met my first girlfriend.

Hi MetalMarsh, I know absolutely nothing about you so I'm going to start with the basics -

Where are you (city, state, country whatever you're comfortable with)? Did you move there? If so from where?
Who convinced you to come over here from PA?
Is this your first mafia experience? If not, where else have you played?
How many games have you played now? Do you have a favorite game yet?
Who are your friends on this site, like people that you know irl? Or at least know better than others? If none, who would you like to get to know better?
What do you do when you're not mafia-ing (school, work, both, neither)? Expound as much as you like.

Ok, that should get us started. Thanks for agreeing to be in the hot seat.

Ok, that should get us started. Thanks for agreeing to be in the hot seat.
Hi, I live in Eugene, OR (USA) but I'm originally from Cincinnati, OH

I believe it was AP who was responsible for bringing me here from PA, you've gotten that part right.

I originally played mafia on a site called GoalLineBlitz, an MMORPG for American football. We played quite a bit in their forums. Then I played a bit at MafiaScum, though their style was a bit too intense and aggressive for my liking. Great players, but mean. :stare:

I've played I think 5 games here (and hosted one), but probably upwards of 50 games in my life. My favorite one here so far was most certainly the Harry Potter one.

I wouldn't say that I know anyone on this site too personally, but I'd have no qualms with getting to know some peeps better and vice versa myself. I guess we'll see which way the wind takes us. :)

I am a student, and a mathematics major at that. I'm also a marathoner, rock-climber, and a generally outdoorsy person. When I'm not swamped with these hobbies or work, I'm probably reading, listening to music, or possibly even trying my hand at cooking.

Did you mafia on PA too? Did you go by a different name on PA?
Favorite band?
Music you love? Music you hate?
Favorite comfort food?
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Same name on PA, but it seems no one plays mafia over there. :( Actually, I posted asking if anyone did play mafia and AP then pointed me over here to the Syndicate.
My favorite band right now is probably Rush. That's usually my default answer, but my interests are all over the place.
I love almost anything related to rock, but I've also explored out a bit to others such as bluegrass and jazz. Musics I don't enjoy would include pop  rap, modern R&B, country, and various extreme forms of metal.
My favorite comfort food would probably be candy. It's Easter season, and I can't help myself but to grab a box of peeps every time I go grocery shopping. :D
When I grow up, I'm hoping to become a math teacher/track coach/forest ranger/cafe owner/nutritionist/musician. I probably won't achieve all of that at once, but one can certainly dream.

Keep those questions coming. :coffee3:

MARSHY!

We did in fact have two games on PA hosted by the Sock, prog themed, naturally. However, that was many many eons ago. :sigh:

1. This has been bugging me for a while, but are you a he or a she? :p
2. Top 5 albums.
3. Last book you've read.
4. What conversation topics do you usually avoid?
5. Do you speak any foreign languages?
6. What's the coolest sounding language you've heard?
7. What's your best performance as a marathoner?
8. Which area of mathematics appeals to you the most?
9. Whom do you look up to the most?
10. What's for dinner this evening?

1) I am in fact a he, though I may have ended being a she in one of these games. My avatar doesn't usually help matters for certain.
2) Wish You Were Here (PF), Larks' Tongues in Aspic (KC), Hemispheres (Rush), Hot Rats (Zappa), and Godbluff (VDGG), though not necessarily in that order.
3) I'm finishing up a book by Haruki Murakami titled What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. That's the second of his I've read and I'm loving his writing.
4) I'm don't like drama, so I tend to try and stay under the radar to avoid it. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are other topics.
5) I do not speak anything yet, but Japanese will hopefully be in my future.
6) Definitely different dialects of Native Americans, especially when it's fluent. Though I can't understand it, I think it's one of the more beautiful languages I've heard.
7) Around 3:14:00, though I ran under someone else's name and was officially DQ'd, so the time isn't official. :P
8) I love stats. I'm a huge baseball fan, mainly because the game revolves so much around numbers. I love thinking about the stats, comparing, looking at them, and almost anything related.
9) I definitely look up to my father. I grew up in Catholic schooling system (though I'm not religious myself), yet my dad is the most morally responsible person I've ever met, and he's agnostic.
10) I dunno yet on dinner. Last night was happy hour burger and fries. Tonight will definitely be some home-cooking.

Must have been before my time then. I think I joined PA sometime in 2012. Sorry I missed it, a prog mafia game would have been an excellent one as far as I'm concerned. *hint hint

Why Wish You Were Here over Animals? For me those two are so close. And do you think they were possessed, held at gunpoint, or on drugs for The Wall?

Do you like dogs or cats, or both? Do you have either? Have you ever had a pet that lived in a cage, like a sugar glider, a snake or a turtle?

In a group, do people look to you for leadership, or do people look to you for comfort? Or none of the above?

Shine on You Crazy Diamond is my favorite song of all time, and so WYWH gets the edge for me over Animals. I will agree though that they are oh so very close. As for the Wall, I believe Waters was just as crazy as ever and nothing more. I would say drugs, but I've read that Pink Floyd didn't dabble with the hard stuff (with the exception of Mr. Barrett).

I love both cats and dogs, I've lived with dogs before, but my current roommate has a cat. I'm not sure which I would choose though. They are both great for different reasons. And no, I've never lived with a pet who lived in a cage. I don't think I could stand it, nor do I believe the animal would like it. :(

While not a leader in a group, I would consider myself the most level-headed person anyway. I usually don't wish to be a leader unless it's thrust upon me. As for comforting people, I'm terrible at it. :zombie:
