The Lion King Mafia

Image

It's the circle of life...and it moves us all. The sun rises over the Savannah, touching every corner of the magical kingdom.
But there's a faraway land, shroud in darkness, where evil lurks and sometimes finds its way into Pride Lands.
The country is divided, and it's up to young Simba to reunite the people of the Kingdom once more and bring peace.

Hosts' ISOs
dunya
juliets

Pridelanders (6/13)
1612
cobbler - tedxtr - Carotenoid
Dyslexicon
jeraldooo - speedchuck
M Plus 7
Urist

The Banished (7/13)
NANOOKTHEGREATANDFEARSOME / Long Con - Banished Day 1 - Nala - Vanilla Pridelander
Scirrus - Killed Night 1 - Rafiki - 2-shot Doublevoting Pridelander
protocultures - Modkilled Day 2 - Sarabi - Vanilla Pridelander
tutuuu - Killed Night 2 - Zazu - Pridelander Cop
Lavender - Banished Day 3 - Mufasa - Vanilla Pridelander
Alison - Killed Night 3 - Timon - Vanilla Pridelander
Michelle - Banished Day 4 - Sarafina - Vanilla Pridelander

Specific Rules
1. This is a semi-closed set up. Role claiming and info dumping is legal. Character claiming is illegal.
2. I will be randomly using one of the following 13-player setups for heists designed by our fav JJJ:
Spoiler: show
Image

3. Votes are changeable.
4. Hammer requires a majority of the votes, and once the majority has been reached any and all unvotes will not be counted. Please help your host and take a screenshot once majority is reached if I am not online.
5. Tied banishment will be determined with a coin flip.
6. No copy/pasting your role or sharing any game-related screenshots. No editing your posts. The basics. You got this.
7. No gamethrowing or whatever.
8. All night actions must be PMd to me and juliets; I do not accept them through any other channel!
9. No outside of the game communication with other players unless the host has provided you with a BTSC link.
10. If you think we've made a mistake during the game, please PM dunya and juliets. Posting it in the thread could influence the game and break it.

Other important notes
1. All phases will run on a 24/24 cycle. Phases will end at 7pm EST. That's the latest your host can manage without affecting her health. 6pm EST is the latest I accept night actions. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
2. If at any point you are feeling frustrated with the game or just want to let off some steam and vent to someone, please reach out to our mods on duty JaggedJimmyJay and sabie12. They are always there to listen and help.
3. If you have any game related questions, please PM dunya and juliets and don't @ us in the thread. If we think the question warrants an answer, we will answer it in the thread.
4. Respect your fellow players and please have fun!

Sample vanilla win-con:
You are a Pridelander. You have no other special abilities. You win when all threats to Pride Lands have been banished.

ROLE INDEX FOR 13-PLAYERS

Spoiler: show
Cop w/ d0 peek -- Alignment investigator that can operate every night (can determine whether target player is civilian or mafia), also has a d0 peek that bypasses Godfather.
2-shot tracker -- On two separate nights can investigate another player to learn who they targeted that night if anyone.
2-shot doctor -- Same as Doctor, but can only act during two separate nights during the game.
2-shot doublevoter -- Twice during the game can elect to make their day phase vote worth two instead of one.

Godfather -- Appears to be a civilian when investigated by a cop except on d0 peek.

This is the host's color.

Hey guys! I'm happy to be here! It's been a really long time since I've played a game outside of mafia451. I was so excited for my first game here to start thought I'd write a little song about my future on this site. I hope you enjoy it, and please save your applause for after you've finished reading. :)

-------------------------------------------------

I never thought townies essential
They're crude and unspeakably plain
But maybe they've a glimmer of potential
If allied to my vision and brain

I know that your powers of retention
Are as wet as a warthog's backside
But thick as you are, pay attention
My words are a matter of pride

It's clear from your vacant expression
The lights are not all on upstairs
But if we're talking my first impression
Even you can't be caught unawares

So prepare for a chance of a lifetime
Be prepared for sensational views
A shining new era
Is tiptoeing nearer
And where do you feature?
Just listen to teacher

I know it sounds sordid
But you'll be rewarded
When at last I am given my dues
And in justice deliciously squared
Be prepared!

It's great that you'll soon be connected
With a king who'll be all-time adored
Of course, quid pro quo, you're expected
To take certain duties on board

The future is littered with prizes
And though I'm the main addressee
The point that I must emphasize is
You won't get a sniff without me!

So prepare for the game of the century
Be prepared to expose mafia's scam
Meticulous planning
Tenacity spanning
Endless font of wile
Is simply why I'll
Be king undisputed
Respected, saluted
And seen for the wonder I am

Yes, my votes and ambitions are bared
Be prepared!

Hey gang,

I'm Jay. I'll be one of your Moderators on Duty in the Pridelands, and I'll be joined by sabie12. She's joining our staff and learning the ropes of the process. If at any point you're feeling annoyed, frustrated, or upset about the game and want to express your grievances somewhere private, please send us a PM. That's always preferable to allowing the game thread to become unreasonably hostile or toxic. We all know how the game of Mafia can be sometimes. Likewise, if you have concerns regarding the hosting, we're the ones you should bring your concerns to. Y'all ought to have a good time with this one. If you hate the matrix you can even blame me!

Have fun folks.

Hey all! It's my first Mod gig, but feel free to message anytime if you need someone to talk to or vent. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the game!

As for the poll, I haven't seen The Lion King in a while actually, but Scar is one of the best Disney villains by far, so not a hard choice.

Looking at the player list, I believe I have actually never played with most of you, so that's pretty neat! If people want to talk about their mafia history, great; if not, that's fine too. Just expect me to be asking questions regardless so that I can try to understand how your brain works.

definitely bold to open a game with a song originally sung by the villain. i have to assume that was written prior to the roles going out and was just fun. plus it leaves the door open for someone else to pen a circle of life parody later on which i'll keep my fingers crossed for

Yeah, wow, this is really cool, I love playing with new players!

- I know Long Con extensively since we've played together off and on since I started playing mafia on Lostpedia and such back in 2010.
- I know Dizzy well enough given we've talked and played together off and on the last few years.
- I think I've played only one game each with Michelle and Scirrus.

I believe that's it, although someone correct me if I'm wrong... as it's possible I crossed paths with someone else that I'm either not remembering or you were under a different username or something.

I'm not sure what I make of LC's eagerness to award a town read here. At first my gut wanted to town read him for it because it reads too carefree to be wolf!LC, but also after thinking about it I could see LC making this read as either alignment I guess. Need more data.

I certainly will do my best to communicate that. As a crucial part of the way I play mafia games, I'm all for transparency.

I also encourage questions as much as possible, because I have a tendency to have opinions about things, but perhaps I'm not the best at communicating those opinions, so if you ever don't understand something, just ask me. I won't bite. Usually.

That makes me happier than you could know, given when I had the idea to found this site I could never have imagined it.

Really though, no need to feel intimidated. I personally get rather competitive, but one of my primary goals is to try to ensure everyone has a good time together. I certainly don't accomplish that all the time as the nature of this game naturally can lead to it to be tense and I get rather invested and emotional, but... at the end of the day, we are all people trying to have fun playing these games, and that's a viewpoint that I think this community in general holds.

I'm personally just happy to have you here, and I'm sure others share that sentiment. Play however you feel most comfortable.

I hope you enjoy it, and please save your applause for after you've finished reading. :)

It is nice that Dizzy at least won't be third party keymaster this game, because I really could have used that input on my read of you, haha.

Me too! I'm definitely hyped.

Good point about Hades.

I am town, and yes it's very cool. I get so emotionally exhausted when playing scum, it's ridic. Glad I don't have to do that here. :)

I haven't played with anyone here I think. And yeah Nanook is the only person here that regularly plays on 451 I think.

I enjoy how competitive mafia451 is. There are some good discussions that happen there regarding accurate play, town strategy, meta strategy, etc. Based on the one game I've specced here (the game which shall not be named), the play on this site is vastly different than what I'm used to, so I've come here to spy on the competition try to diversify my play.

Also I'm really unused to 24h days... we do 48h at the shortest.

I'd say my greatest strength is my intrinsic yeet resistance. I dunno why but people seem to find it difficult to yeet me. I'm unyeetable. I'm probably the least-yeeted player on 451.

definitely bold to open a game with a song originally sung by the villain. i have to assume that was written prior to the roles going out and was just fun. plus it leaves the door open for someone else to pen a circle of life parody later on which i'll keep my fingers crossed for

as i said, they're very competitive... almost to a fault. to most people there, winning is more important than having fun (or for some, the two might be synonymous). it's certainly my cup of tea so i don't mind, but i know that it can turn a lot of people off.
that's not to say that they're rude or cheaters or anything... quite the opposite. but for example, it's true that sometimes it's beneficial to play your cards close to your chest as town if you can, and some players there take that to an extreme, because they can.

also i've seen a lot of places which have a group of "cool kids" or whatever, and these players very rarely get yeeted, if ever. definitely not true of 451, which is obviously a good thing.
M Plus 7 wrote:How do you figure, doesn't it depend on the individual player?
Sure, but if even one player posts in d0 more often as town than as scum then my statement is technically true right? :D And I believe it applies to a lot more than one player.
I agree that it does depend on the individual player, I'm not giving out lock town reads or anything. But since it's d0 and I don't know anyone here I have to make generalizations and rely on what I've seen people do more often as town/scum.

i used to. i've probably played ~50 games. my background is probably a little bit more casual as far as gameplay goes, though i've certainly been in some pretty heated games. the pace here is already faster than i'm used to but that's not a bad thing

i tend to share this observation. obviously it's not a hard and fast rule but scum seems to tend to feel out the very early going and then start driving more in ensuing phases in my experience

there's a good saying that comes from my home country, Carpe Diem. it's french for "Fish of the Day". it reminds us that every moment is fleeting, and something that is here one day may be gone the next, so you should seize what time you have to write the song yourself

Cool! I'd say I come for a more casual site myself (Non Mafia-centric) but I'd say we have a reputation for strong town play. We also do pretty much exclusively 48/24. Although since this place allows night posting it's sorta is like 48 hr phases, but just with no break, lol.

If that's your greatest strength then I hope you're town lol.

that's not to say that they're rude or cheaters or anything... quite the opposite. but for example, it's true that sometimes it's beneficial to play your cards close to your chest as town if you can, and some players there take that to an extreme, because they can.

also i've seen a lot of places which have a group of "cool kids" or whatever, and these players very rarely get yeeted, if ever. definitely not true of 451, which is obviously a good thing.

Interesting, I'd say my site meta is very much the opposite of that. I tend to get real pushy with those cards close to their chest players lol.
I don't have any issue with your playstyle so far though. Keep doing your thang bruh

cobbler wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2020 9:49 pm much appreciated :) i'll try not to shy away. i have to admit i'm a bit intimidated playing here because i've known about this community for a very long time and it has a strong reputation for solid gameplay
Do you play mafia elsewhere? What's your experience like?
i used to. i've probably played ~50 games. my background is probably a little bit more casual as far as gameplay goes, though i've certainly been in some pretty heated games. the pace here is already faster than i'm used to but that's not a bad thing
Ah ok, good to know. Yeah I hope it doesn't get too overwhelming bc I can be really busy these days lol
