I knoooooow right. I will do anything to avoid taking pain meds, and caffeine usually works for that, so I manipulated him into making me coffee around 1:30pm for "health reasons."

He makes it in the French press and it's sooo good. Roles are swapped in our house cause the American makes the tea and the Brit makes the coffee.

Emergency coffee stash, love it. I have an emergency ketchup packet stash in my car :)

Maybe if you got fries at a fast food place and forgot to ask for some. Or maybe if you need to stain your clothes for some reason.

Because it's ketchup! That's why!

And you call yourselves Americans. It's like our national condiment.

What are you dipping your potatoes in or putting on your burgers (besides mustard)?

For fries, I quite like mixing mayonnaise and mustard together. Sometimes mere malt vinegar is a good choice.

Mustard is usually sufficient for the burger, as it allows me to taste the meat, but sometimes barbecue sauce is a nice touch if I am feeling my Texan roots. Buffalo sauce is an alternative option as well, as is bleu cheese dressing, or simple mayonnaise (which I find goes well with everything.)

There is a whole world of sauces out there more interesting than ketchup.

Okay, okay, let's not paint me as some sort of backwards hick who would pour ketchup all over a perfect prime rib or something (if I ate meat). I think you'd be quite pleased with my collection of non-ketchup condiments. I'm a big fan of flavored aiolis for sandwiches and burgers, and I often dip tofu fingers (yeah yeah) into Buffalo or BBQ or fun mustards.

However, there's sometimes when you just need some ketchup. I have this lovely habanero ketchup that's slamming on this spicy sweet potato tater tots I have. Or if I make breakfast potatoes. There's this local place called Evos that has four kinds of flavored ketchup, including cayenne, mesquite, garlic and lemon, yum. Burger 21 has marshmallow ketchup, Thai ketchup and a ginger option.

Ketchup may not be something I always use, but I feel more safe and secure knowing it's around.

I splurged today and got a little piece of Red Leicester cheese at the store. I do love English cheeses so, although I can't hear "Red Leicester" without thinking of Monty Python's Cheese Shop sketch.

Do you like Stilton?

An English pub here is considering adding a Ploughman's to its menu. I am campaigning heavily for them to do so.

I like White Stilton a lot. The only time I had Blue Stilton I thought it was disgusting, but I think I'd like to try it again, as I have had a great deal more cheese since then and I feel my taste buds are more receptive now than they were at the time.

Other English cheeses I enjoy include Double Gloucester, Wensleydale and Sage Derby.

My favorite cheese joke follows, although it really doesn't work unless read out loud with the right inflection.

Q: What kind of cheese do you use to lure a bear out of its cave?
A: Camembert!

It took me several tries, but I got it.

Bear is my spirit animal. Open your jacket if you see one approaching.

I made a chicken velouté with onions, garlic, and potatoes. It was most satisfying.

French mother sauces are hilarious to me, as a southerner. They sound so fancy, yet we call two of them "gravy." :haha:

Cucumber.

I do not get the appeal of sliders. It seems like less food but more calories.
