In all the years I've been alive, I've never had a year quite like 2018. There were good times. There were bad times. A serial killer destroyed Hogwarts. Greece was overrun by Persians. Corruption overcame the mighty Yun Qui. Roofs were built, Vampires slayed humans, and there were a couple different times that rings destroyed parts of reality.
What I cherish most from this year, though, were the new players.
And one of them in particular is being honored tonight.
You were a strong player ever since you showed up. Present, active, fun, engaging. You won (and lost) games like you belonged here, and indeed you do.
As someone who won the "Jack Torrence has always been the caretaker" award last year, I must forward the sentiment on to you. It feels like you've just... been here. Like you're a part of the community.
As a host, as a townie, as a scummy con of the night. You've been great to have here.
So here's to my other head. The son of Shrek himself. The host of Vanilla Mafia, the mighty King Xerxes, an evil bunny and all-around great teammate, regardless of the circumstances.
COLINISCOOL!
You've won the BEST NEWCOMER SOCKY AWARD!
Congrats, man. Heck of an achievement. Don't let anybody take that away from you!
Congrats ColinIsCool, extremely well deserved. also congrats MacDougall and every single one of you better watch my awesome presentation
My goodness, what a finish. Well done Speedchuck. While I am pleased as punch to catch both DDL and S~V~S as baddies, my spreadsheets failed to illuminate your evil nature. I’d have probably tinfoiled on Sloonei.
At least we kept you guys honest and made you earn it at the end.
What important person was born in Montana and went on to direct two of the most important films of their decade? I’ll give you a hint: he made a lasting impression on our next Lifetime Award Recipient.
This award winner has created some of the most innovative games on the site and some might say he’s the real Genius. Several of his games have a twin for instance, but not all of them have a lynch. He is a somewhat enigmatic player and host and is admired in both roles. In one game as a player, he even created an algorithm that would indicate who was bad. Alas, he never got to use it.
And in case you haven’t guessed, this is not really an award, it is Mulholland Drive Mafia. Click below to start.

No one ever listens to me.
I enjoy the way you presented my award presentation. I really don't feel good about this game though
You fought as hard as you could, and that's all anyone can ever ask of you. I'm proud of what you did in this game. You were in such a difficult position, and you nearly got through that unscathed anyway! Hold your head high. Sometimes even good civilian efforts fall just a bit short.

And you voted for speedchuck, the real mafia!
Twice I voted him but no one believes me. Sighhhh. I feel like I should have just said "do it bitch" when they were threatening to lynch me.
And finally, a bonus presentation from Epignosis...
I wrote a poem in ten minutes
Over a glass of red wine, not Guinness.
I wrote it because I have some news for you
And not because I have more booze to do.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is a high honor
Announced by admirer, friend and fawner.
We end this game with few regrets,
For a Lifetime Achievement Award
Goes to
I started playing mafia in 2009, on a LOST fan site called SpoilerTV, I checked the forums and because I'm big into the lore and history of the actual Italian American Mafia I saw "Mafia" as a subforum and checked it out and saw it was a game, which I signed up for and played. My first game ever was Scrubs mafia, and I was Turk and had BTSC with Trish who was JD and one of my first mafia friends.
Since then I've been a part of several mafia sites. Lostpedia, Piano, Revolution Mafia which I co-founded and ran, and most recently this place, The Syndicate. In all that time, over 10 years of playing a game I genuinely love I've met some very cool people. You're all my friends, and I love you guys. I don't mean that in any small or insignificant sense. I love you guys. Some of you have been with me for 10 years. Some of you feel like you've been with me for my whole life. Some of you I've just had the privilege of knowing recently, but I do deeply care for each of you and respect you as players and friends.
I had a great year, sure. But I didn't get there, or here, alone. There's so many of you that I want to thank personally but if I did this post would be a full page long and I'd get snot and tears all over my keyboard so I'll just say this:
If you've known me for any period of time, know that I value you and love you and respect you for the joy and the friendship you've brought into my life, in and out of any games we've played together. I dunno if i have another game left in me but I'll be around to find out, and I hope you will be too.

Well you got to the end. That doesn't mean you were really scummy, it probably means you were among the most civ-looking ones. You were just not top civ-looking.
But this shit happens. I probably need two hands to count the number of times I got lynched as a civ in the final day of the game. It's not something specifically related to your skill, btw. Though some types of players seem to be more suited to being lynched at specific times. Some people go down too early, some never seem to go down, and some keep being tinfoiled on until the end, like what happened with you.
juliets: Thank you for working alongside me throughout the planning and execution of this game and event. I am ever appreciative of your eagerness to contribute however you can to the bright demeanor of our community.
Spacedaisy: Thank you as well for your input as we were putting this thing together. I am glad both of you have been recognized in more way than one here!
Long Con: Thank you as always for your dedication to producing such awesome awards banners. They look great, and I am excited to show mine off.
G-Man: The original inspiration for a Socky Awards Mafia game was your own, so thank you for serving as the foundation of this whole dang thing. I think it turned out nicely!
As far as I am concerned, a "host" banner is insufficient for this one. That's why I asked Long Con to put together something slightly different. All of you are as deserving of this as I am and should feel free to fly it if you want:
Nutella
Juliets
Marmot
Spacedaisy
Insertnamehere
Turnip Head
Dharmahelper
Ricochet
Congratulations to each of the nominees and winners for this award.
On a personal note I am humbled to receive this award, and feel all the nominees were deserving for their contributions to this site. I thank those of you who voted for me from the bottom of my heart.
Also Congrats to the mafia for winning the game! So exciting at the end.

Scientists all agree juliets' heart is so vast it may not actually have a bottom.

Mwa huh? I get a banner for making a suggestion? That’s even more inconceivable than when I won Turf Wars without signing up for the game itself.
Congrats to the Lifetime Achievement Award winners! Some very deserving names on that list.
DH- 2018 was your year man. Now that you’ve won more Sockys than Meryl Streep has Oscar nominations, are going to go to Disney World to celebrate?
I have so much to say. For one, WOW we were lucky to get off the roleblocks and kills we did. Cops and 3P killers are dangerous.
Despite the coasting that us scummers were allowed to get by with on the first few days, every one of you had us sweating these last four days. Good game. Ironically, I feel like this game qualified me better for the award than any game last year.
As a note, we went into this game planning not to bus each other at any point. We weren't good at it, we said. It was a bad idea, we said.
And then I missed the deadline when I was supposed to move from DDL to Lunalee, and the team fell apart.
That lynch was crazy. With nutella's role being what it is, there was only a 12.5% chance that DDL would be lynched on D5. It happened.
Crazy game, well designed, fun roles. I was glad to be a part of it!
Congrats to my teammates and nutella! We tried to kill you, but Kylemii snuffed it instead and I was too scared to try again.
Sorry, Sabie. Sloonei gave me a really convenient set of posts where he suspected Luna least and you most. He was the person I needed to convince. I managed to build up more cred than usual this game. Now I will be plagued by the #alwaysscum tag forever.
The awards were great. Everyone deserved them. DH's speech warmed my heart, Nutella's video was excellent, it's great to see a community where everyone can contribute like this.
Finally, my awards. Best Mafia, Best Burglary, and.... Best Theme? I almost teared up. I figured what it meant. SOMEONE HAS ACTUALLY BEEN READING MY WRITEUPS! I love writing, so it means a lot to me that you guys voted there. I really didn't expect any awards this year, because there are so many great players and hosters on this site. Thanks so much.
Looking forward to a great 2019 with you all!

So sorry sabie. Speed fuckin pulled a feat that lives up to his best mafioso award. At least I still get to win!! Yayyy
I seriously thought that award would get me killed this game.
