i've watched neither but since an ex of mine swears by the west wing and says it's the greatest show ever made ever, i'll say fargo.

It's sooo good a lot of the stories and issues are still relevant today, it was ahead of its time in a lot of ways. The acting is perfect, the writing is usually pretty sharp, it's not as heavy handed as a lot of the stuff that's currently on. It's serious but also lighthearted. I really can't recommend it enough.
