My personal preference is always 24, but, as I've said before, this is for the players to enjoy, so if anyone would prefer 48 hour days, I don't mind accommodating. :)

Guess I'm in. I kinda hope it takes a couple weeks to start though bc my life is pretty crazy right now. But I should be able to play.

I've grown to find them redundant. If you are a maybe, don't sign up either way. And I've never quite grasped why someone would want to be a replacement at the outset...why not just sign up? :D

Becasue sometimes you are not sure in advance, and then things clear up. If there is no "Replace" option,in those situations I just say "No". Having a Replacement option brings more people to the table. I learned that in GOC.

I'll take care of it. That's my field anyway. I was supposed to update those scores last weekend, but the entire family got sick and I was Nurse Ratched.

Agreed.

And occasionally games come up in which I'm not available until Day 2 or so, and it's a way of letting the host know "Hey I want to play, so put me in if someone needs a sub, coach!"

A hydra is an account that is controlled by multiple players.

it would be me and silver uner one account, we would use a sockpuppet most liekly

To allow players to play together? I mean if you dont want to make a sock we can jsut make an account for us and be done with it?

I mean me and silver did hydras all the time and have been planning on bringing it over for a littlw while now...

Doesn't that confer an advantage to you that others wouldn't have?

Hydras are very common where we used to play. They are a lot of fun. I don't think I've ever seen a game where hydras gave an advantage to one side or the other. Some mods allow anyone to hydra, others limit hydras or say two heads only, some don't allow them at all. It is entirely up to the host's discretion. I do know they add an element of fun to games which is why we like to do them. They are also a good solution for someone who doesn't know if they'll have enough time to devote a huge effort to the game but still want to play-your partner can help post. It's still only one account that two people have access too, each sharing whatever role there it is. It's also good for people who have good synergy in a game together or want to learn from the other about their playstyle more. The next time I host a game here I'm gonna allow them just to see how it goes as an experiment. Most times people really like them and have a lot of fun with it.

That said Epi, it is ultimately your decision. The only reason we are asking is ika and I are taking a break from playing together in a game due to our bias towards defending each other and voting together. That said, if they are not allowed, I'll sign up for this one by myself as I am more interested in the setup and ika will wait for the next one.

Hope this all makes sense.

The nature of this game would make such an arrangement impossible.

If hydras are going to be a thing, we should go ahead and make Tag Team Mafia games. Only pairs of players could play, united under one account. :srsnod:

I don't think I'd want to play that, but it sounds like the only way for hydras to be fair.

It's finally happening.

If this ends up overlapping Battlestar Galactica, then please don't expect me to be a mega postaholic in both games, y'all.

I could see hydras work in a sock game, if the dual role is presented or made clear in the setup, but in any variation of a closed setup, the others just wouldn't what/who they're dealing with.

Hydras work in any setup. They are extremely common in theme games where I come from-role madness, complex games. They were announced ahead of time that there is a hydra and who is in it. It was a requirement to sign your posts and not post in your regular account. Other that that, there is no difference between a hydra or a regular account. Hydras are just two people and one role. It really didn't effect games at all. I am going to allow them when I host a game. I would like this site to experiment with them because they are a ton of fun and people in hydras generally love doing it.

Also, they are a great way to get to know other mafia players and to learn a lot about other's playstyles which is very beneficial for any person in any game they play. I see no reason not to at least try them here at some point.

pretty much that, unless if your using a sock game where accounts can be traded, they are super good and one of the things that i have alwasy enjoyed about mine when i was with silver in hydra is that we would have good, bad and inbetween

(we also died like 10 times more)

ika, we should probably make a separate thread about this at some point but I do want say, my scum game improved a lot in a hydra with ika and his town game improved a lot in town games in a hydra with me.

I can understand not wanting them in closed sock games where no one knows there is a hydra. It's better if they are announced. I'll make a new thread on this later.

I dont consider hydras to fall under the "game mechanic" IMO

Ill talk with silver and see what she thinks. I think how hydras work are not as mcuha game mecanic but more a player thing

edit: what i mean is what hydras are i dont feel like fall intos the discussion there
