Well, as some of you may or may not know, I have been renting from one of my brothers for several years, then he had to sell his house due to divorce. So having to worry about having to move to probably a more affordable area further from my job, keeping the house perfect for real estate, etc., has been a huge stress on me. So the house finally just sold, but the new owners want to keep me at a VERY reasonable rent (all that housekeeping paid off) for the area I live. My brother will get enough out of it that even after splitting it with the evil witch ex wife, he can afford to get a decent condo also not far from HIS job. So I am enjoying house hunting for him since *I* don't have to move :haha:

So yay for all that being over, and for it resolving well in the end :)

I know, right? The past year and a half while the house was on sale, I tried super hard to always have my apartment be perfect for buyers because it was for my brother, but it was hard too cause him getting the closure he needed by selling the house meant I would have to move and apartments are even more expensive in New York than Finaldn. Plus dog & cat plus I work in a ritzy town.

So yeah, everyone won,and that never happens :)

Thanks all :hugs:

Dom this is great! I had no idea you were a math guy. I thought of you more as theatre and the arts. I can't believe you've already been through school and are ready to teach. How time flies.

@Dom - what is a 'section' of geometry?

Have fun in the world of jobs - it can be really rewarding. And remember that ninja and epi are there for you!

thank you everyone! I'm very excited!

Golden, a "section" is a single class. There is 8 in the school day, and of those 8-- I will teach 5 classes of geometry and have 3 split between planning and "duties" like study hall or lunch.

Golden, we called them "periods" when I was in school too. Of course, I have no idea what the teachers called them! And that was... more than a few years ago.

I've heard people use the terms interchangeably.

Juliets, I am very into the arts, and I'd love to someday get to work in them, but this is my big passion. My best friend is hoping to become a director, so I have an in. :p

I think calling them sections sounds more professional and fancy-like. :noble: :nicenod:

I don't understand being passionate about Geometry, but I respect you for it! I think such subjects (STEM) really need more instructors who are passionate about them. It's how you reach hearts, and encourage young minds to go for it!

It's increasingly difficult to ask a teenager to buy-in to a class where the concepts seem so abstract and unapplicable to their everyday life. I mean, I know most students will not remember most of the material in years to come. But it's the skills that I hope they retain (problem solving, planning, justifying their answers).

Here goes nothing, folks!

I think there's a slight difference between the meanings of "period" and "section" but I'm not quite sure how to articulate it. It's like, "period" is the chunk of time on your schedule, so it's when you have a certain class/section, while "section" is the division of that particular class into different groups of students for each period. So like, students have each class in a different period, and are each in a particular section of each class, while teachers of one subject teach multiple sections of the same class. If that made any sense.

Congrats you two!!

I just got my grades back for my uni courses this semester and I'm pretty stoked about them. I set myself a goal to achieve at least one high distinction (the highest markable grade at my university) per semester and I've been able to meet that goal every time . I'm also starting my last semester in two weeks and I can't wait to graduate and become a super successful businessman

Earlier this month I had to take the test for full-time professional degree (this is probably the best translation I could find of what it's called here - "definitivat" - basically a higher teaching degree/certification required to achieve within 5 years of first entering the educational system as a teacher), with a minimum grade of 8 out of 10 set as the bar for a pass. This is usually a stressful exam, because of the passing requirements and the pedagogy / applied pedagogy material you have to bury your head into and learn - which I only managed to do with two weeks ahead, to the point of mental collapse and the feeling I will fail this exam tremendously.

Then I took the exam and felt that I did well, so I felt vaguely optimistic about the results. Found out after a week that I smashed it with a 9.8/10. Ok. Granted, the grades average was overall quite high, which prompts me to believe that the evaluation was sort of lax across the board. Still.

Wow that's fucking awesome.

I know how you feel though. Recently I got a 9/10 for an exam I did for a public job. Was feeling pretty happey bit then I saw a lot of people got high grades. One guy even got a ten. My 9 was still good enough for me to climb the rank a little though (this was the second exam of two), so I still have some hope of passing if the government decides to hire more people.

Yeah, I was also "bested" by a ten, which makes having the second grade in the whole county utterly insane. :p

I am finished with comprehensive exams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay: :yay:

I finished Thursday at 3:00PM. A moment I've been building up since before I even started the PhD program. Now I never have to study for and take another exam... ever!!! Assuming I pass, that is. And pending my successful completion of my second year paper presentation later this semester, I will officially no longer be a PhD student, but a PhD candidate and in the ABD (all but dissertation) stage. I'm so stoked, I've been dreading comps for years. They're finally over!

On another note, part of the reason you haven't heard that from me on Thursday afternoon (though you have if you have me added on Facebook since I popped on there briefly to post, and most of this is message is shamelessly stolen from my status updates there), I now finally I have a solid block of free time. I've been working non-stop even since comprehensive exams were over Thursday afternoon, and before that pretty much the last few weeks with occasional internet breaks to keep myself sane.

I think I've earned the rest of today and at least part of tomorrow off. I'm pretty sure the last "day off" I had was in July. I am so looking forward to spending time with the wife (shout out at Annie!), playing some video games, listening to some music, eating some awesome tacos (Torchy's!), and having some rum and coke (well, most likely rum and Dr. Pepper actually).

I really love teaching, but with everything else on top of it, my life has been such a chaotic emotional rollercoaster the past month and a half. From August 1st through just an hour or so ago qualifies as singlehandedly the busiest time of my life -- studying for comps and then taking them, working on research, teaching Principles I, moving to a new apartment, and planning this Excel training class and now teaching it. And I've had some incredibly busy times before, some real tough competition, but this wins the new award.

Especially with comps and the apartment move both now firmly over, and the first Excel session taught, it's so great to finally breathe and relax.
