ROUND TWO ☒ JURY GAME

Posted: Sun Apr 15, 2018 5:40 pm
by insertnamehere
FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE ~ OPEN BTSC

The Jury Game will be played in citizen and criminal teams. In five trials, the citizen team will try to get a Guilty verdict, while the criminal team will try to get a Not Guilty verdict. 7 players will randomly be placed on the citizen team, while 5 players will be placed on the criminal team via secret PM. There is one leader on each team. The criminal team will know each other’s identities, but they will not be told who their leader is. The citizen team will not know each other’s identities. However, the citizen team’s leader will start the game knowing the identities of all of the criminals, except for their leader. The citizen team must avoid the criminal team’s interference and draw out 3 Guilty verdicts over the course of 5 trials. The criminal team must draw out 3 Not Guilty verdicts.

The game will have a maximum of 5 rounds. Each round will consist of a jury selection and a trial. All 12 players will take turns as the Head Juror, in a randomly chosen, publicly revealed order. The Head Juror will select a jury for the current round. The number of jurors will change depending on the round. The trials in Rounds 1 & 2 will have 4 jurors. The trials in Rounds 3 & 4 will have 5 jurors. The trial in Round 5 will have 6 jurors. When the Head Juror selects a jury, there will be a vote of approval for that jury that will last for a maximum of 12 hours. If a majority approves, that jury will take part in the trial. If a majority, or an equal number, disapprove, the jury will be dispersed, and the next Head Juror will get their turn. An approved jury will PM me how they wish to vote. How each member voted will not be revealed. When all of the jury has finished voting, the outcome of the trial will be revealed. A unanimous vote is required to reach a Guilty verdict. If even one person chooses Not Guilty, the trial decision will be Not Guilty, except for Round 4, when a minimum of 2 people must vote Not Guilty for that to be the verdict.

When a team wins 3 trials, there will be no more trials held. However, winning the trials will not result in a game win. The team that loses the trials will get one last chance to turn the tables. If the citizen team lost the trials, the citizen leader must guess the criminal leader. If they guess the criminal leader correctly, the citizen team will win the game. Conversely, if the criminal team lost the trials, the criminal leader must guess the citizen leader. If they guess the citizen leader correctly, the criminal team will win the game. However, if a losing team’s leader fails to guess the leader of the winning team, the team that won the trials will win the game. Members of the winning team will each get a Token of Life and 2 Garnets. They will also get to choose an elimination candidate from the losing team. They have 24 hours to come to a unanimous decision. If they cannot do so, the elimination candidate will be decided by voting. Ties will be broken randomly.

The randomly decided progression of the Head Juror position is as follows:

1. Speedchuck
2. EdJou
3. Dharmahelper
4. DisgruntledPorcupine
5. Golden
6. Sprityo
7. Scotty
8. M Plus 7
9. Lunalee
10. Nutella
11. Spacedaisy
12. Long Con

speedchuck, as you are the first in the line of succession you may propose four people for the Jury as soon as you want. Once the Head Juror proposes a Jury, everyone has 12 hours to vote on it in the thread. Vote using the handy dandy vote button and aubergine up.

EXAMPLES:

[VOTE: APPROVE] aubergine

[VOTE: DISAPPROVE] aubergine

After 12 hours, (or before if 7 out of 12 people vote in a certain direction) the votes will be counted. If a majority approves, that jury will take part in the trial. If a majority, or an equal number, disapprove, the jury will be dispersed, and the next Head Juror will get their turn. An approved Jury will privately PM me their verdict.

I have a question- is there a cap head jurors in case we can never reach a decision? Like, 4 years down the line when I’m head juror number for the 721st time, we finally get 7 approves? Or we just hoping eventually we’ll all reach a consensus?

This game could theoretically last for an infinite amount of time.

Buckle up, folks.

We'll have to all veto some juries in order to cover for the Civ Leader's identity.

It doesn't have to be 7 approvals or disapprovals. If there are 4 approvals and 3 disapprovals after 12 hours, the Jury is approved. That stipulation was just in case someone posted a jury and then a majority of people immediately approved it, and waiting out the 12 hours just seemed unnecessary.

Other things: You can totally abstain from voting.

Once you vote, you cannot change it. No take-backsies.

It's tough cuz I don't want to spill too much of the beans and give criminals a leg up but it would be beneficial to get as many team nominations as possible.

It's like mafia, and there are scumpeople. It just has a different set of rules/phases.

Mafia are trying to get people on the jury to sabotage it. We're trying to get scum-free juries. Most mafia strategies work? And based on the round results, we can POE pretty well.

Thats another thing, POE is key here, so its like... can't really call it too much until we get the Mission/Jury Result for R1.

I assume that getting a Not Guilty will make all jurors on that jury a lot more suspect... there are so few rounds to shuffle and sort them though.

Thus the leaders.

For round 1, we only need to get 4/7 of the town figured out. Or... scum might throw in a guilty verdict and let us pass to give us less info for later rounds. That's what I always do IRL.

Oh - I can see how there's information there. But if we planned disapproval ahead of time the info would be corrupted. So you can really only react.

Typically approving a jury/team right off the bat, particularly one that you aren't on, is seen as suspicious. I got chewed out by the online gamers that I played with for doing that.

OK, so even the idea of 'strategy' or 'random' sucks and should be seen as automatically suspicious, right? (Not speedchuck in this case since he didn't know ahead of time). People should be forced to choose organically.

I don't know anything more about this jury than any other potential jury. Approving off the bat feels like Marmot behaviour. Why is it seen as inherently bad?
