I could not figure out a way to get Kyle lynched. His stance on the Turbup Tragedy was just so ... believable.

Speedchuck tbh I think the game worked out fine. The scum nearly won in the end and games are inherently scum favouring so if anything a close civilian one is a good result if balance was your effort.

The only thing I would have done different ironically is I would have definitely decided against doing the deadchat rezz thing when you did given the deadchat was full of civilians.

I had the same thought fleetingly. I was pinged by Colin seeing his own mechanism as a claim and going after the player rather than just believing it.

Yeah I can see that. I actually do gravitate toward anti-indie mindsets as a townie though, I think it’s a culture difference. Every other place I’ve played Mafia I only ever saw very anti-town indies. I don’t remember if any RYM games I played had any.

Yeah I have no idea how we didn’t fuck everything up, every night. In reading the chat back I definitely thought I could weaponize Epignosis against you but ... we see how well that worked :haha: The hubris is all mine.

Also quin would have got voted back in instead of me if Spacedaisy didn't ask for someone to rezz me and then it turned out her plan to rezz me was unfeasible given I was a stump anyway. If I didn't get rezzed I don't know if sprityo and Colin would have been lynched before Kyle and Epi (probably would have still tbh).

Well played guys! It was a seriously tough game to work around Scotty and golden’s Roles as well as the doctors but PoE is what killed us in the end I feel

And thanks to speed for hosting! I’m sure it was hectic being the host of a delayed action/swapping game with a minigame deadchat. would love to see the concept again at a later date

I made the choice to kill you mac because you were both a doctor and had suspicion on me

I couldn’t have foreseen the deadchat having such an impact and I think I could’ve gotten away without getting lynched otherwise

Well that was a great win, and not with my help.

Mac came in strong in the end there. Golden having identified me early was...maybe OP? I kept trying to draw the kill because I wasn’t a doctor AT ALL, and kept up the ruse only in hopes to die. My only ability to was to die and be reborn. Into a fucking stump.

Thanks to the harder workers of this civ faction, and thanks for the game speed!

Sprityo and Colin, if not for myPoE, I would have believed you guys were civ. But I couldn't see anyway Epi and Kyle were bad after that last night.

Thank you deadies for having so much faith in me!

I expected to not have a lot of fun, because generally I hate games with no flips because they seem so weighted in favor of the baddies, but this game was definitely not like that at all. What a great game!

I really was worried about you Kyle, until you did what I asked. I figured if you were bad there is no way you would've done what I asked knowing that it must be something in the civs favor.

I just was surprised how quickly you trusted me while Mac and Scotty and nutella and Quin came after me at the same time.

I was excited to have an opportunity to use my power positively.

I was afraid I'd accidentally cause problems by using it but in retrospect I don't know how I could have done that even if it was my goal.
I just was surprised how quickly you trusted me while Mac and Scotty and nutella and Quin came after me at the same time.

haha maybe, but it's also pretty true most of the time, my early game town meta is kept pretty consistent to mesh easily with my scum tendencies, if i generally get town-read too early as a civ that's a problem for when I'm not one.

TOWN (Time Vandals)

Marty McFly (Back to the Future) - Town Searcher

Doc Brown has vanished into the past!
You search each night for Doc Brown among the vanished players. If you find him, he will be brought back from the grave. You are his last chance at survival, be careful not to reveal yourself!
[Electing Marty will tell him who Doc Brown is]

Doc Brown (Back to the Future) - Town Revival Stump

You've got a faithful friend looking for you through time.
If you die, there is a player that can revive you as a stump. If they manage to find you.
[Electing Doc Brown will nullify the 'stump' portion of his role]

Rintarou Okabe (Steins;Gate) - Town Inventor
YOU ARE MAD SCIENTIST.
You are an inventor of future gadgets. You have four items you can 'invent' and hand to other players. You can only invent one of each.
-1-shot desperado (A gun that backfires if aimed at town. The backfire will kill the player who fired the gun. The gun is a public activation.)
-1-shot watcher
-Potato (Player will recieve a potato. Eating the potato will give them a doublevote in the current lynch/election.)
-Cookie (Player will recieve a cookie. Eating it will roleblock them.)
[election lets Okabe give out a 1-shot rolecop]

Homura Akemi (Madoka Magica) - Town Retrocausality Delayer
If you target a player, their action on the previous night will be delayed until the current night. In the case of something like a kill, this may have little effect. For most other abilities, this 24-hour delay has the potential to rewrite history. Use it wisely.
This ability is unusable on night one.
[election gives Homura the ability to delay 2 people per night]

The Doctor (Doctor Who) - Town Delayed Doctor

“Letting it get to you. You know what that’s called? Being alive. Best thing there is. Being alive right now is all that counts.”
If you target a player, they will be doctored the following night. Target someone on night one, they will be protected on night 2.
[1-shot 48-hour doctor (Doctors one player two nights ago)]

Philip J. Fry (Futurama) - Town Vanisher
"This is a cool way to die!"
You can voluntarily vanish at any point. It will take you out of the game for a full day/night phase. This ability can be used once.
[Election gives him a one-shot ability to un-vanish another player for a full day/night phase.]

Ebenezer Scrooge (A Christmas Carol) - Town Backup
“No space of regret can make amends for one life's opportunity misused.”
You have BTSC with Squidward. If a certain player dies, you will inherit their role. (Scrooge is a backup Delayer for Homura Akemi, but is not told who he is backing up.)
[Election gives Scrooge 1-shot BP]

Nightfall (Final Space) - Town Bodyguard
"Cause Einstein's a jerk."
You choose one player every night. If they were going to die that night, you will die in their place.
[Election turns Nightfall into a Doctor]

Sam Beckett (Quantum Leap) - Town Unreliable Vig
"Leaping about in time, I've found that there are some things in life that I can't change, and there are some things that I can."
You can try an improvised kill on another player each night. Your chances of success are slim. If the day immediately preceding your kill attempt included a visit to the future, you are more likely to succeed. (More effective if we were in the future, 40% instead of 10%)
[Election gives Sam a 1-shot Piercing Permakill with role reveal, then nullifies his actual role]

Wilbur Robinson (Meet the Robinsons) - Odd night Scientist
"Special agent Wilbur Robinson of the T.C.T.F."
Every odd night you can check to see if two players are aligned.
[Election turns him into an every-night scientist]

Agent J (Men in Black III) - Town Paranoid
You've been trained to have a keen eye and good senses.
You will be told what kind of roles targeted you at night (Bodyguard, scientist, tracker, watcher, rolecop, etc.)
[Election allows J to know the alignment of players that visit him, along with the roles]

MAFIA (Paradox Police): (has BTSC)

Hero of Time (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time) - Mafia Rolecop/Tracker
As the legend of Hyrule, you have both amazing adventurer skills and help from a knowledgeable fairy.
You alternate between child and adult link. Child Link - Rolecop (Odd days - in the past). Adult Link - Tracker (Even Days - in the future).
[Election gives Link an extra 1-shot kill]

Asahina Mikuru (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) - Mafia Election Rigger
You're from the future, which means you know some of what will happen... at least, whatever isn't classified information. During the day, you can attempt to predict the election results for that night. Correct predictions give you an extra vote in the following election.
[Getting elected gives Asahina a single-use mass roleblock]

Hermione Granger (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) - Mafia Retrocausal Busdriver

Time-Turners are powerful devices.
You choose two players. Anything that affected Player A the previous night will now affect Player B tonight, and vice versa. This is a busdrive, but it dips into the events of the previous night. This ability is unusable on night 1.
[Election renders Hermione untracable/unreadable by information roles]

OTHER (What?)

Squidward (Spongebob Squarepants) - 3P election predictor
You just want things to go your way, so you can leave and get some peace and quiet. Each day phase, you can predict who will win the election the following night. If you predict the election correctly, or if you are elected, you win the game.
You have BTSC with Scrooge. You also have a 1-shot bulletproof vest.
You leave the game once you win.

Phil Connors (Groundhog Day) - 3P Marker
You are using this time machine to meet new people, hoping to break yourself out of your native time loop. You can mark one person per night. You win if, at any point in the game, there are more marked players present (alive) than unmarked. You count as a marked player for this calculation.
You can continue marking vanished people while dead, in hopes that they will be rezzed.
Election allows Phil to mark an extra person for free.

Highly recommend Final Space, Madoka Magica, and Steins;Gate to those who have not seen them. Great shows. Even the magical girl one, I promise. It's a deconstruction.
(And I recommend BttF to Juliets, what even?)

If I had gotten more players, I'd have put the guy from Quantum Leap in here, as well as Phineas and Ferb. I'm sure I could find some others.

The reason I discouraged Flavor Claiming is because some people try to use flavor claims to find the 'bad flavors.' My bad guys were the Hero of Time, Hermione Granger, and Asahina Mikuru. Would not have worked.

tbh based on mine and turnip head's roles i assumed you'd just googled a list of obscure time travellers, but all the other ones were pretty famous and cool :[

I did use a list once I had put down 12 or so roles. But I made a point to myself that I would only put down time travelers I recognized.

Squidward was before I looked up things. Scrooge was after.

“[Electing Marty will give him BTSC with Doc Brown, alive or dead]“
Shouldn’t I have gained BTSC with juliets on day 5? Or I reading that wrong?

In any case, it wouldn’t have mattered :p

Oh, right. I was toying with changing that mid-game, but in the end, decided to go with the original concept because town was overpowered enough.

In the end, everything was as originally planned. I'll go change that back.

yaaaaay great game civs! :)

I don't think I did anything of value besides fuck around, but it was amusing. I regret not sending golden to dead chat for shits and giggles at the beginning of the phase.

The flavor and write ups where very amusing.
speedchuck wrote: Fri Jun 29, 2018 11:22 pm
3. Town made a lot of assumptions that paid off, even without flips. I overestimated and way overcompensated for the lack of flips, leading to an overpowered town, then Golden assumed Sig was scum and Mac made some assumptions and the two began pinning the scumteam left and right. Go figure.

I get credit for this though right? Without town mislynching me we would've lost. :p
