We typically start games with a ~24 hour “Day 0” phase just to allow everyone time to get their rolecard and settle in, if that helps your availability.

The nice thing about a hydra game is that a short period of low availability isn't a big deal. Your role is occupied by two players. As long as one of you can take part during that period, your slot is active.

Yeah, that's fair, but I still prefer to be around early on in a game I'm gonna play, else I have some troubles getting invested. That's the same reason I personally don't like subbing into games.
