War - war never changes.
CHARACTERS

WASTELANDERS

win by eliminating the Super Mutants

The Vault Dweller

Image

You drew the short straw, and have been sent out of the only home you’ve ever known into the wasteland to find a replacement water chip. You have no idea what you’ll find out there, but if you don’t hurry – your family and friends will not survive.

Before the end of Phase 0, you must choose one tag skill among the following three: combat, stealth, and speech. During each ensuing night phase, you will be granted a one-time use ability related to your tag skill. Each progressive night represents a “level up” in which you'll be able to improve a skill again (any of the three).

The Vault Dweller begins the game with zero bottlecaps.

Jacoren

Image

As overseer, the well-being of Vault 13 is your responsibility, and you’ll do whatever you have to do to protect the community – even if it means making difficult decisions.

During each night phase, you may select a player. That player’s role will not function that night.

Jacoren begins the game with zero bottlecaps.

Tandi

Image

You're a naïve kid, having spent your entire life to this point confined to the borders of the tiny Shady Sands settlement. You want nothing more than to get out of the village and explore the wasteland, but your father forbids it. All you can do is talk with the travelers who visit the town and learn about the outside world from their stories.

During each night phase, you may submit a message to the host. It will be posted publicly at the start of each following day phase. You may not reveal your identity in this message.

Killian Darkwater

Image

You run a supply store, and serve as the defacto mayor of Junktown. You keep the peace despite every effort from the unfavorables in the area to undermine you, and passers-through respect your authority.

You run the Darkwaters store. During each day phase, players may contact you anonymously through the host to barter for items you have in stock. You will not be obligated to accept or reject any offers; the choice will be yours. The store's supply will be listed on the game's front page, and details for its operation will be included there. You may not use any of the items in your store. If you die, control over the store will pass to Gizmo. If neither you are alive, the store will no longer be in operation.

*secrets...*

Ian

Image

As a former guard for the Crimson Caravan, you have a lot of experience traveling the wastes. You can be an invaluable asset and friend, but holy hell are you a terrible shot sometimes.

Each vote you place will be worth two, but the second vote may not necessarily end up where you intended. The first vote will always work correctly. The second vote will have a 35% chance of landing on the player for whom your intended vote voted for. For example: you vote for Player A, and Player A votes for Player B. Your first vote will surely land on Player A. Your second vote has a 65% chance of landing on Player A and a 35% chance of landing on Player B. The usage of this second vote is not optional, but it will not be in effect during any final elimination phase (wherein the results of a lynch may dictate which faction is declared the winner of the game).

Harold

Image

You've been around since the time of the war, seen so much suffering and death, seen yourself become a horrifying ghoulish shade, and yet you have never lost your charm. You're a storyteller, and you have information which makes you a valuable member of the Hub old town community.

Three during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. You will be told who that player targeted that night if anyone.

Twice during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. You will be told who targeted that player that night if anyone. You may not use both of these abilities during any single night phase.

Tycho

Image

You're a battle-hardened survivalist associated with the Desert Rangers, a faction from the southeast Mojave wastes. You do the best you can to keep the peace in a place where trust and good will are sorely in deficit, and it's all you can do to keep yourself alive -- let alone the helpless bastards you want to protect.

Thanks to the gas mask you carry on your person at all times, you are immune to the effects of radiation.

Three times during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. That player will be immune to all night actions and also unable to use any night actions.

Nicole

Image

As the founder and leader of the Followers of the Apocalypse, you are a humanitarian first, defender second, and preacher never. The chief charge of your faction is to aid those in need across the Californian wastes without judgment or condition, and to preserve old knowledge which may prevent any recurrence of the great war which destroyed civilization.

During each night phase, you may select a player. That player will be protected from one vote during the following day phase (their total votes received will be reduced by one).

Laura

Image

You're a Follower disguised among the Children of the Cathedral as a spy. Your task is to acquire knowledge of what happens behind the closed doors of the Cathedral facility and within that mysterious organization.

During each night phase, you may submit a message to the host which will be transmitted to Nicole. You may not reveal your identity in this message, as if it is intercepted your cover will be blown.

Twice during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. You will be told whether or not that player is aligned with the Supermutants.

Rhombus

Image

You lead the Brotherhood of Steel paladins with honor and dignity... often way too much of both. Most of your troops think you're an asshole, and they're probably right. You have an unhealthy attachment to your power armor too. Despite your less pleasant traits, you're a hell of a fighter. That's obvious to anyone unfortunate enough to find your bad side.

If you are night killed, your killer will be unable to utilize his or her role during the following two night phases.

If you are lynched, half of the people who voted for you (rounded up, chosen at random) will be unable to use their roles during the following night phase.

General Maxson

Image

You're the man in charge at the Brotherhood of Steel compound. You command immense respect from the scribes and paladins underneath you, and though your word isn't "law", it might as well be. You have seen a lot in your long life, and you will do whatever you feel you must to preserve humanity's legacy.

During each night phase, you may select any two players not including yourself. Those two players will form a temporary team, able to engage in BTSC during the following day phase. They will use their player identities and not their role identities for this purpose, and all game rules pertaining to information revealing will still apply within that BTSC.

SUPERMUTANTS

share BTSC and kill nightly
win by neutralizing the Wastelanders

The Master

Image

How you came to be what you are is unclear to nearly everyone else, but it matters little. You wield immense influence over the wastes, including over thousands of people who do not know you exist. You are as brilliant as you are terrifying, and if you get your way the world will soon be a very different place... and so much more pure.

If you deliver the night kill, you will not be affected by role blocks or protections. You may not kill during consecutive night phases.

Separately, during each night phase you may expose a player to intense radiation. He or she will become sick, and all of their efforts will be hampered accordingly (but not prevented outright; voting, night actions, item usage, purchases, and gambling) for the following two phases. He or she will be made aware of radiation sickness, but prohibited from revealing it.

*secrets...*

Lou Tenant

Image

You are the right hand to The Master and one of the most intelligent supermutants ever to evolve. You are responsible for all supermutant forces and technology at the conversion facility. You are fully subscribed to The Master's philosophy of evolutionary superiority, and take special pleasure in every weak human you see dipped into your vats of forced evolutionary virus (FEV).

Once during the game during Phase 0 (no later, if you do not submit the action on time it will be wasted), you may select a player to apprehend and dip. That player will undergo the process of mutation in three stages:

Stage 1: During the day phase following being dipped (Day 1), the player will experience a huge increase in physical size and strength. He or she will be immune to two votes in the poll that day.
Stage 2: During the night phase following being dipped (Night 1), the player will lose command of their emotional and rational faculties, becoming wild and enraged. His or her night action will target randomly, unbeknownst to him or her.
Stage 3: At the start of the day phase following Stage 2 (Day 2), the player will have fully transformed into a supermutant. He or she will be ready to serve The Master as a member of your faction included in your BTSC. That player's original abilities will not be retained.

Note: If Harold is dipped, it will have no effect on him. You will be able to use the ability again on Night 1 and all stages will advance one cycle, but the eventual supermutant's vote will count as zero in all polls.

Separately, during each night phase you may select a player. That player's role will not function that night.

INDEPENDENTS

Gizmo

Image

You run the casino at Junktown, and you'd very much like to run the rest of Junktown too. You've been feuding with Killian for years, and you're more than ready to finally be rid of that tight-ass prick.

You are in charge of the casino. During each day phase, players may contact you anonymously through the host to participate in your casino games. If you die, the casino will no longer be in operation.

If Killian dies and you are still alive, you will take control over the Darkwaters store.

*secrets...*

=================================================================================================================================================================

Bottlecaps

All players will begin the game with bottlecaps. The amount will vary per player within a restricted randomized formula.

Darkwaters Store

Each player in the game will begin with a single piece of equipment, determined at random. The item will have some specific function which will be described to you when you receive it. You may either keep the item for yourself, or use it for bartering at the Darkwaters Store. Players may make offers to the proprietor of the store (either Killian or Gizmo) anonymously via the host at any point during the game which may then be accepted or rejected. Both equipment and bottlecaps may be utilized for bartering. The proprietor may restock the store while it is in operation by spending bottlecaps. A public ledger will log all Darkwater Store transactions (equipment and caps exchanged, but not identities of customers).

Casino

Gizmo runs the casino. All players may take their chances at the games on offer here. They include: slots, blackjack, and mole rat fights. All bets are final. The casino has a finite amount of bottlecaps, and Gizmo doesn't take kindly to miscreants making off with too much cash. Be warned.

RULES

~ Role claiming and info-dumping will be illegal in this game. It is necessary for the functionality of a role-laden open setup. I'm not incorporating a soup kill.

~ Role HINTING is also prohibited. In my eyes this is hardly different from role claiming. If you are uncertain whether you're able to say something, ask me privately first.

~ It will be illegal to claim an alignment in this game -- any alignment regardless of whether it's true or false. An exception is that all players regardless of alignment may claim to be civilians/wastelanders (or townies, villagers, or whatever). Players may not claim to be mafia/supermutant-aligned or independent.

~ Let's just go ahead and reveal nothing at all pertaining to anything you do or anything you are not explicitly privileged to within this game thread. That applies to all night actions, all items, all bottlecaps, all purchases, all gambles, etc. You may not reveal what items do either.

~ All members of the winning faction will be declared winners, dead or alive.

Additional Rules and Notes:

1. The most important rule is to always remember that we are playing a game together on an Internet forum. Be kind and considerate as you are also being competitive, and be mindful of how your words might be received by others beyond the scope of a Mafia game.

2. Do not engage in behind the scenes chat (BTSC) with other player(s) unless your role gives you the explicit right to do so.

3. You may not edit or delete any posts in the game thread.

4. You may target yourself with night actions unless otherwise stated.

5. You may target the same player on consecutive nights unless otherwise stated.

6. juliets is your Facilitator for this game. She's the best. If you're getting irritated, frustrated, or pissed off, then I encourage you to send her a private message. She'll talk through it with you. She'll keep an eye on the game as play proceeds as well.

7. If you're dead, then please do not post anything remotely on-topic in the game thread. If you want to make an off-hand and off-topic comment, use this dead-read color. Please do not abuse this privilege by posting frequently. You're dead.

8. The same goes for non-players, who should use this non-player-blue color. Keep it off-topic.

9. Votes can be changed at will.

10. Day phases will last approximately 24 hours and night phases will last approximately 24 hours. I will adhere to this as strictly as possible, but if life forces me to make adjustments then I will do so.

11. All roles will be revealed to the degree I deem appropriate when players are either lynched or killed.

12. I will use this font. You can use it too if you want. Just don't impersonate the host.

Total Nuclear Devastation

It's remarkable sometimes how well human civilization has come to know itself. We all suspected that eventually we'd bite off more than we could chew from this world, and we would become our own destruction. We weren't entirely sure how or when it would happen, but there was always at least a faint understanding that it was inevitable. How can creatures with such volatile nature and history as ours survive once the resources ran thin? In October of 2077, we had our answer: they cannot survive. The world was essentially wiped clean of whatever civilization stood before it, cinders and ash replacing sprawling metropolises, and irradiated air and water ensuring it could scarcely return any time soon. I'm not sure we deserved better.

Image

A few of us who saw it coming took measures to prepare ourselves for the eventual disaster. We constructed massive underground vaults, designed to house select families who could one day emerge into the remaining wasteland to begin our way of life anew. Vault 13 was one such refuge, buried deep in the Sierra Nevada mountains of south-central California. We have persisted here for 84 years, generation after generation, waiting for our time to rejoin the world. As it happened though, no plan is perfect: our water chip responsible for all water sustenance throughout the complex has failed. We are forced to send someone out into the unknown hells above to retrieve a replacement. Jacoren, our overseer, has devised a means of selecting the right person for the job. To be honest with you, I hope it isn't me. I am not cut out for the world outside. God only knows what has happened out there over the last century.

- Jay Wimsatt
- Level 2 apartments, complex beta-6.

The overseer has made his choice. The one chosen will have to depart the vault as soon as possible to find a solution. Keep them in your prayers every day; we cannot survive if they fail. I hope they're watching every training video in storage to prepare for this.

Image

Phase 0 begins now, and it will last approximately 23 hours and 16 minutes until 5:00 PM EST tomorrow. I may extend this if I don't feel enough players have checked in. I need to know you're here and aware of the game.

Hi all, as Jay said, I am your facilitator for this game so if things don't go your way, or you're frustrated or angry or are just bored drop me a pm and I'll be happy to listen. I'm usually around during the week in the early morning and afternoons after about 2:00. Weekends I'm here a lot (sadly) so don't hesitate to give me a shout.

I have never played Fallout. I don't have time for video games with all my Mafia-ing.

So we can't discuss what items do. Can we theorize, or perhaps draw references from the game? For instance, a discussion about "is Nuka-Cola a desired item, or dangerous"?

Nuka cola is useful in the game and you collect caps from it which is currency.

Hilarious.

The two things I remember about Fallout 1 are how often this guy would accidentally shoot me in the back and using a bug to pause sneak into the super mutant base (late game area) right off the bat and then blowing it up, going instantly from level 1 to level 4 without firing a shot. :p

I am unsure how the economy of fallout works or how the economy of this mafia game works but my general guess is it’s important and we might as well figure it out while we’re doing nothing else.JaggedJimmyJay in case you missed LC's query -- to what extent can we theorize on what items do? Because I feel like if I made a general list of how good/bad I thought each item would be I'd be I think technically within the limits of the rules but it could end up very quickly at a point where everyone is making hints about extra info and that's against the spirit of the rules. Would it better to keep all that discussion to PMs?

Also I don’t like gambling it scares me.

Who, and why?
It's more fun if you guess.
Mac and Creature.

Regarding items and info-dumping. Don't dump. There's no harm in speculation though. If there are further questions please direct them to me privately.

The Casino

If you want to play the slots, I will be using this website: Slots
~ All slots available are "Rise of Merlin". 1 coin = 1 bottlecap. You may review the site if you want to see how the slots work regarding the use of credits and playing lines. I am the only one who can officially run you through a game though, so you'll have to PM me with your desired bet information.

If you want to play Blackjack, I will be using this website: Blackjack
~ Again, you can tool around with the site if you want to see how it works. I will be controlling everything though. If you choose to play Blackjack, please try to at least be around for a short period so that we can get through it. Multiple PMs will be required.

If you want to bet on a mole rat fight, I will tell you who is scheduled to fight that day and how the Casino sets the odds for each combatant (which will dictate payout). Just choose a fighter and place a bet.

I wish it were so. Unfortunately, the Deathclaw nest has not been eliminated. Come back when the job is finished.

The heck
You smart guys know that you can't actually vote for me yet, right?

1. We're not really civilians, so we don't care about rules. Prepare to die!
2. Um, no sorry. We didn't realize. Have you seen a water chip by any chance?
