SETUP

Dogs (12)

Win when they eliminate the Cats.

Labrador

This dog has a great sense of smell, allowing it to track a player each night and learn who they targeted.

St. Bernard

This dog is very protective. Once per night, it can rescue another player from one kill.

Wire Fox Terrier

A very energetic dog. During the day, the wire fox terrier can burst with excitement and gain +1 vote power. Cannot be used two consecutive days, as the dog needs to rest.

Collie

A very intelligent dog. Once per night, it can investigate a player and learn whether they are a dog or a cat.

Pit Bull

A dog infamous for being ferocious, but often misunderstood. Any player who votes for it will feel intimidated, and become unable to vote for the Pit Bull in the following day. This effect will only affect each player once in the game.

Dachshund

The famous shaggy dog. Cute, but shot-tempered. Once per night, it can bite a player’s ankle, roleblocking them.

Pinscher

This dog is so small it might as well be a cat! It appears as a cat when investigated by the Collie or the Mutt.

But it is also very short-tempered. If it's still alive when there are 6 or less players left (counted at the start of a day phase), it will start barking angrily, which will reveal its identitiy publicy in the thread.

Siberian Husky

This dog is famous for being used in sled races. Thrice in the game, It can carry another player on a sled to safety, taking them out of the lynch poll in the next day.

Chow-chow

Silent and territorial. Twice in the game, it can sneak behind a player and kill them.

Golden Retriever

This dog has a very gentle mouth. Twice in the game, during the day, it can make its vote “soft” so that it will only work if the target is not a member of the Dog faction.

Fila Brasileiro

A guard dog that has existed in South America for centuries! Once per night, it can guard another player, redirecting all negative abilities that hit that player onto itself.

Mutt

A mix of many breeds! This dog is good for everything. It can use each of the following abilities once in the game: investigate a player to learn if they are a dog or a cat, track a player to learn who they targeted in that night, protect a player from a kill, or roleblock a player. It cannot use more than one ability in the same night.

Cats (3)

Win when they outnumber the Dogs.

Have BTSC. Kill every night.

Maine Coon

This cat is so large it might as well be a dog! It appears as a dog when investigated by the Collie or the Mutt. Once per night, it can pounce onto a player with its large body to roleblock them.

Siamese

Playful and extroverted. Every night, it can do one of the following: sit on a player’s keyboard, preventing them from voting in the next day, or drop a random object near another player, causing a ruckus and making a kill attempt on them fail.

American Shorthair

This cat is a great hunter! Once per night, it can spy on a player to learn their role and alignment. Also, twice in the game, it can use its claws to upgrade its night kill, ensuring it will neither be stopped by protective abilities or passive defenses, nor be redirected.

Rules

- This game is dividided in day phases and night phases. Day phases are when you post and make votes. The poll will lock exactly 24 hours after it is posted, and afterwards I will come here as early as possible to make the end of day post. Some abilities can be used in the day, but unless stated otherwise, all abilities are night-only.

- Night phases are when you are allowed to send actions, if you have any. Actions will be accepted 23 hours after the end of day write-up is posted. The final hour will be used by me to process actions, and to correct previous delays in day/night starts. Night posting will not be allowed, as the thread will be locked during the night.

- Voting is done through the poll. I do not require players to announce their votes in the thread or use fancy tags, though it is usually considered common etiquette to do so.

- Self-voting and changing votes is allowed. In case of ties, the lynch result will be resolved at random.

- You must post at least once per day phase. Failure to do so will be considered inactivity. If you are inactive for one day, you will be modblocked, which means your role will not be allowed to use any abilities during the night. If you are inactive in two different days, I may replace or modkill you. No replacements will happen after Night 3. if you are going to be unable to be online for a short period, please tell me in advance so I may give you some leeway.

- Double targetting is allowed.

- Role revealing and all forms of info dumping are banned. This includes info dumping by elimination, which is listing all the people you know are not a role.

- Do not engage in angle-shooting, which means using information from outside of the game to obtain advantage in it. That includes, but is not limited to, making bets or oaths in real life, asking people the color of their role card, or posting screenshots to prove anything. I will modkill players who break this rule.

- All players who die in the day or in the night will have their alignment and abilities revealed.

- All players will win with their teams, whether they are alive or dead.

- Talking with people about the game in any places other than this thread, or BTSC channels authorized by me, are not allowed.

- For the purposes of this game, positive abilities are anything you'd want to be target with, such as a protection, and negative abilities is anything you wouldn't, such as a roleblock. Information-gathering abilities are neither Positive nor Negative.

- Dead players must post in red. Non-players must post in blue. Off-topic posts should be in green. I will use this color, please do not use it.

- Your Game Facilitator is Quin. If you have any issues with other players or with me and you need to vent out, feel free to talk to him. For gameplay related questions, feel free to ask me and I'll help how I can.

Prologue

It was an uneventful day in the Syndicate Discord channel. People were talking about their trips and their meals, and posting pictures of their cats. They even had a chat dedicated to the later, Syndicats.

But one guy decided to break the peace and quiet:

- Why is the chat called Syndicats? I like dogs, too! - Long Con asked.
- Well, cats are obviously better, aren't they? - nutella replied.
- Actually, no. Dogs are better. They are more loyal and they are always up for fun and affection. - Dom replied.
- Well, they are loyal because they are idiots. Cats know self-respect. - Mac told him.
- Excuse me? How dare you insult dogs like that? - Dragomir yelled at him.

The channel was in the brink of war. The old Dog vs Cat conflict had gotten to it too, and unless it was stopped, that community would never know peace again.

Until one person made a suggestion:

- Guys, guys, why don't we decide which one is better with a mafia game? - DDL said.

This was an obviously dumb idea. But this is The Syndicate, and people will use any excuse to play mafia.

Alright gang. I know it's annoying, and I know it's token. I feel as though it has to be said though, even on Day 0 after four hours. The game must be active if it is to be balanced; and the civilians must engage if they are to have a reasonable chance. If circumstance has you inclined to take it easy for whatever reason, I get you. I kinda feel that too. We're here though, and I am not inclined to allow the kitties to do whatever they want for the next week plus. Whether you start now or wait for the beginning of Day 1, please ensure the thread does not stagnate. It's not even just of a benefit to the civilians. It's a benefit to the host! Allow DDL's game to blossom as he envisioned.

I cannot facilitate activity as I often would with my present schedule. At least I don't think I can. I will need help. novaselinenever has done well to start to take up that banner. Don't let him be the only one.
