I'm in too, but uhhh... I have a thing. I've got to do a paper where I participate/observe a speech community. Do any of you mind if I use the video mafia game as the speech event? I was going to use the Christmas game until I realized I missed the participation bit of it. Derp. Basically it would just be looking at the speech interaction to kind of learn about the community.

If there were to be HOF inclusion for these games, I suspect it'd be best to combine all of them within one day or sitting instead of adding a unique game for every "round" -- that's just too many to squeeze into the forum. So these'd be listed together as one game with all combined winners as the "winners". Maybe.

Compromise is a three player game with many variations. We played three versions—the first one is a stripped down basic version with two factions (red and blue in this case), each player has a 50/50 chance to be either faction. This was basically just to get the feel of the game.

Then a version with six possible roles—town cop, 2 VT, mafia godfather, two goons.

And lastly a version with eleven possible roles—town cop (checks mafia/not mafia), town seer (checks werewolf/not werewolf), three VT*, a mafia godfather (checks as not mafia to cop), two goons, an alpha werewolf (checks as not werewolf to seer), and two werewolves.


Nobody is told their teammates or if they have teammates. If you are a majority faction, your goal is to kill the minority. If you are a minority, your goal is to not die. If everyone is the same faction, your goal is to unanimously vote for a compromise—if you kill anyone you all lose. In the three faction version if you’re 1-1-1 you win by compromising as well.



*in games with a hammer it’s two VTs and a super saint (kills the player who hammers them), but the way we play doesn’t have hammers so I just made it a third VT instead.

It’s a scheme that a guy named Flavor came up with, there’s a bunch of different variations to it. We played 9 or 10 of these on 451, and ive run them as text turbos with another group too, they’re pretty fun and once you adjust to the slightly different goal structure it’s a pretty good game.

Oooh, I'd played under the assumption that you'd strictly removed supersaint, and not replaced it with a VT. I knew my calculations of a compromise win were off, but they were probably even further off than I thought

Yeah, it isn’t lol. Attendance varies week to week, we don’t really know for sure who will be there until we’re in the zoom playing. Thunal has made it every week I believe, outside of her we’ve had a rotating cast of characters based on who’s available and not sick that week.

Hastily and Poorly Improvised Four Person Compromise:

Eight possible roles:

Town cop with a random N0 (Night Zero)
3x VT
Mafia godfather (checks as town to cop)
3x Mafia goon

Minority wins by not dying. Majority wins by killing minority. If split is 4-0 or 2-2, a compromise wins and killing someone loses. Compromise can only happen D1 and must be a unanimous vote.

D1 plays as normal--if one side wins (or a winning compromise isn't made), the game ends. If neither team has won (i.e., a player in the majority dies), they do not flip and the game moves to D2.

Sparkles drew cop with a N0 (Night 0) green on Thunal. Thunal was godfather. Made and Daisy were goons.

Made was formalled and received no votes Daisy was formalled and received no votes, compromise was formalled and everyone but Sparkles voted for it (sparkles would've won by voting for it). Daisy was killed at random as time in the day had run out. D2 Made was killed which resulted in a Sparkles win. I don't have a picture of this one cause I didn't do stats for it.


Some interesting stats from the first three games today! There were 15 formals made, 6 of which resulted in a TK. Town made fourteen of those 15 formals and seconded nine, while mafia made one formal and seconded seven. Town collectively voted correctly (voted on mafia or no voted on town) 32 out of 51 times (62.7%), collectively no voted town 18/31 times (58.1%) and collectively voted for mafia 14/20 times (70%).
