It's actually a whole series. It is odd, it is his wife, the co-author/illustrator, that led me to the Decemberists. I was looking for a specific piece of artwork, a poster, for a friend, and I ran across one of her posters for the Decemberists, and it was so haunting & scary, yet lovely (almost reminiscent of Richard Scarry) and i found that poster so intriguing that I looked them up.

I wish they received the international credit they deserve.
I agree 100%. What a masterpiece.

At work on my phone, can't properly link it, but Radioheads new song Burn the Witch is amazing.

It's not much or anything special, but in case you feel like having something open in the background while working [like I am] or lounging, Sigur Ros are streaming a 24-hour trip on Iceland's Route One, mixed with a slow ambient (as far as I understand, random-generated by a programm from several samples) soundtrack.
Listening to some mid 2000s throwbacks and just needed to post my favorite song of all time. Yes all time!!! I listen to a lot of ~alternative~ stuff (although I hate saying that because it's so annoying/pretentious sounding) mostly nowadays (lol thanks to my days in #piano IRC in 2011? 2012? where users enrique and nutella seriously showed me so many great songs/artists and stuff wow the time i spent on that chat really influenced my music taste), I still really appreciate pop music and don't get me started with people who refuse to listen to any pop song! However, most pop music right now isn't really doing anything for me - how can we as a society let Carly Rae Jepsen flop, but let Meghan Trainor succeed? There is the occasional Beyonce/Ariana Grande bop (Into You song of the year?), but I am yearning for some Nelly Furtado/Gwen/Fergie/2007 Britney sort of sound.
Britney Spears honestly, although an icon, is someone who I still find criminally underrated! Her discography is full of certified bops, and I root for her so hard just because of her story. In 2007, she had a total breakdown while the paparazzi/media swarmed her, and it was honestly so sad to watch. Everyone expected her career not only to be over but for her to burn out in a blaze of glory and die or something! However, even while this was all going on, she released one of the best albums of the decade (Blackout), and don't forget that she was the executive producer!
Also, I've never been 100% sold on a song so fast. When I heard "It's Britney, bitch" for the first time in Middle School I was sold.

Sometimes I just remember that nothing else is quite as perfect as the bass riff of Where I End And You Begin

Nick Cave & The Bad Seed... my God. His 15 year old son died falling off of a cliff after the songs for the new album were written, but before they were recorded. Cave has admitted that he hasn't come to grips with what has happened, and it permeates every song on the album... he frequently sounds broken, old, tired, exhausted. It's like nothing I've ever heard from them before.

I'm in a funny mood tonight. Don't ask. Don't judge.
Another rec I got: Milo. Definitely a very different type of sound than the stuff I posted about earlier, but I'm really really digging it so far. Super chill, and his wordsmithing is amazing -- the lyrics have continued to impress me track after track.

I definitely meant to post that in the musical fascinations thread. But it works just fine here too so here it stays

Anitra's Dance. It's movement three of Grieg's first Peer Gynt Suite. Beautiful little piece.
Anyone who plays the game 'The Witness' (and, gamers out there... you should) might recognise it.

Golden I will talk for literally hours about The Witness. My housemates and I played it and have SO many thoughts about, well, how awesome it is.

Feeling a little sleazy and rebellious this afternoon:
This isn’t exactly true to the thread title but I spent my Friday at work stuck in the 90s. I listened to the following albums throughout the workday:
Let’s Face It- The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (1997) Tragic Kingdom- No Doubt (1995) Last Splash- The Breeders (1993) Definitely Maybe- Oasis (1994) Dig Your Own Hole- The Chemical Brothers (1997) Pinkerton- Weezer (1996) The Colour and the Shape- Foo Fighters (1997) Odelay- Beck (1996)
