Moderators on Duty aka Facilitators

Both Scotty and Spacedaisy will be serving as MoDs for this game. They'll both keep an eye on the game as best as they can, and if they see fit, intervene when toxicity is too high. They should be your first points of contact within our staff if you believe someone else has broken a site rule. If you believe someone has broken a game rule, you can contact either of them or myself. Most importantly, they're here to listen if you are frustrated and need a space to air your grievances that you cannot air publicly in the game thread. They're both the perfect sort to lend an ear and allow you to say what you will without judgment (within reason).

Game cycle details

- Day phases last 48 hours and night phases last 24 hours. Night phases are closed and the thread is locked.
- Phases end/begin at 7:00 PM EDT. It is possible I might have to wiggle this a little bit if life demands it of me. I will make my best effort to remain consistent.
- We will not have a Day 0 nor a Night 0. The game begins immediately with Day 1.

Remember that the premier rules in any Syndicate Mafia game come straight from the site rules. Review those rules below, and direct any concerns you may have to the host or moderator(s) on duty.

Also always be mindful of the culture of respect that must be maintained in all Syndicate spaces at all times, to include this game thread and any external communication spaces relating to the game. Players must be respectful to one another, to the game host, to the members of the staff overseeing the game, to the game itself by way of its rules and spirit, to the Syndicate community in general, and ideally also to themselves. Voting and Claiming Rules

1.) Claim whatever you want if anything. The setup is described in the second post of the thread.
2.) Votes in the poll are official, and I will only consider the poll votes when I resolve a day phase. It is still obligatory to call votes in the game thread, as the poll does not track voting order. Call your votes to make it possible to discern timing and order. This is not optional. Please call votes with the [ vote ][ /vote ] tags (no spaces).
3.) Votes are changeable with no limitations.
4.) Voting is not obligatory. There is no requirement to vote in any phase whatsoever. There are participation standards though, which I'll cover separately.
5.) The player who has received the most votes at the deadline shall be chopped. If a majority vote is reached (next integer above 50% the number of living players), the day phase will end immediately. There will be no majority vote in effect on Day 1.
6.) In the event of a tied vote, the chopped player shall be decided among the tied names at random.
7.) A "no elimination" option will be included each day phase. This option must lead the tally with no ties to be enacted at any time.

Participation Standard

There is no rigid standard for participation; this will be at the host's discretion. All players are expected to make a sincere effort to contribute to the game thread consistently enough that their content can be fairly judged. Non-participation has an adverse effect upon the balance of the game. If I decide a player is not participating enough to facilitate this balance, that player will be replaced. If a replacement cannot be found, there might be a modkill. With this in mind I reiterate: it's very important that everyone try to participate. At least a few posts per day/night cycle are a bare minimum.

Other

1.) Respect all guidelines and rules found in The Syndicate's announcements section. Above all else, treat your fellow players with respect -- this is just a game.
2.) BTSC (behind the scenes chatter) is only permitted in host-designated locations.
3.) No editing or deleting of posts in the game thread.
4.) Just don't make posts when you're dead unless you have been given express permission by the host.
5.) Non-players may not post in the game thread.
6.) Living players wishing to discuss something off-topic may choose to do so in {Off-Topic} Green. There's an "OT" button for this in the post editor. This is not required.
7.) This is the Host Color. I don't actually care if you use it, just don't impersonate me.
8.) If you ever have any questions about the rules, roles, or setup, please ask me privately.

Game Setup

The game setup is a 3x4 matrix, and the alignments will be 12 town versus 3 mafia:



The true game setup can be any individual cell in this matrix. I determined the setup with the following order of operations:

First: I randomly selected a number -- 1, 2, or 3. This indicates the column of the matrix in which we will play, specifically what the mafia-aligned power roles will be.

Second: I randomly selected a letter -- A, B, C, or D. This indicates the row of the matrix in which we will play, specifically what the town-aligned power roles will be.

Given this arrangement, the number of power roles in the game (across both mafia and town combined) may be anywhere from 1 to 5. All town roles not listed in the matrix are guaranteed to be vanilla town roles.

The true setup will never be publicly revealed by the host. Regardless, all role claiming is legal.

Vanilla Mafia - You are aligned with the mafia team. You have no special abilities.

Mafia 2x Roleblocker - You are aligned with the mafia team. Twice during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. That player's role will not function, and if they use a limited shot role their shot will still be spent.

Mafia 2x Role Cop w/ N0 peek - You are aligned with the mafia team. Twice during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. You will be informed of that player's role. Additionally, you begin the game with a free peek at a randomly selected vanilla town player. That player is _____.

Vanilla Town - You are aligned with the town. You have no special abilities.

Town 1x Bodyguard - You are aligned with the town. Once during the game during any night phase, you may select a player. If that player is targeted by any fatal night actions, you will die in their stead.

Town 2x Doctor - You are aligned with the town. Twice during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. That player will be protected from any fatal night actions that night.

Town 3x JOAT (Jack of All Trades) - You are aligned with the town. Three times during the game during any separate night phases, you may use one of the abilities listed below. You may only use each ability once.
- Voyeur
- Motion Detector
- Tracker

Town 1x Jailkeeper - You are aligned with the town. Once during the game during any night phase, you may select a player. That player will be protected from all fatal night actions, and their role will not function that night.

Town Mason - You are aligned with the town. You begin the game knowing that _____ is also a town mason, aligned with you. Each of you may share a behind-the-scenes-chat space on Discord provided by the host, available during all game phases.

Town 1x Motion Detector - You are aligned with the town. Once during the game during any night phase, you may select a player. You will be told if that player performed any night actions or had any night actions performed upon them (with a "Yes" or a "No result").

Town 2x Tracker - You are aligned with the town. Twice during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. You will be told who that player targeted with their role ability that night if anyone.

Town 1x Vigilante - You are aligned with the town. Once during the game during any night phase, you may select a player. That player will be killed.

Town 2x Vigilante - You are aligned with the town. Twice during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. That player will be killed.

Town 2x Voyeur - You are aligned with the town. Twice during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. You will be told what abilities that player was targeted with that night if anything.

Town 1x Watcher - You are aligned with the town. Once during the game during any night phase, you may select a player. You will be told who else targeted that player that night if anyone.

Town 2x Watcher - You are aligned with the town. Twice during the game during any separate night phases, you may select a player. You will be told who else targeted that player that night if anyone.

Action Priority and Other Notes

All actions resolve simultaneously with the following exceptions:

1. Jailkeeper resolves first, and it overtakes Roleblocker in any direct confrontations.
2. Roleblocker resolves second.
3. All other actions resolve simultaneously after that.

If a Roleblocker targets a Mason, that Mason will be unable to participate in behind-the-scenes-communication with their partner during the following Day AND Night phases.

If a Roleblocker targets an investigative town power role (e.g. Motion Detector, Tracker, Voyeur, or Watcher), that power role will receive "No result".

If a limited-shot role (e.g., 1x, 2x, or 3x) is targeted by a Roleblocker while attempting to use one shot, that shot is not refunded -- it is spent.

If a town investigative power role (e.g. Motion Detector, Tracker, Voyeur, or Watcher) targets a player that performs/receives no actions, that power role will receive "No result".

A mafia-aligned power role may submit a night kill AND a separate night action on the same night and to different targets.

Role cards are all distributed. The mafia team is permitted to begin communicating in their Discord server immediately, and their chat will be open during all game phases (day and night). Day 1 will begin in slightly over 25.5 hours at 7:00 PM EDT on Wednesday the 3rd of August. The thread will remain locked until that time.

Phases will be 48 hour days and 24 hour nights. Nights will be locked.
