(Fatmo moment) Back when I was 19 or 20 and worked at a coffee shop, there was this cool regular (mid 30's) who came in and we would talk about random music and whatnot all the time. He introduced me to things like Them Crooked Vultures and Thought Industry, among others. Anyway, he gave me a Mutemath CD one time, and I sadly misplaced it soonafter and never got around to listening to them. All these years later, I'm finally listening too them, and I must said, they're pretty sick.
I'm glad that eventually those shrieks and kickdrums because the synths are a little cheesy, and if any other part of this was cheesy I dunno if I'd like it. This combination is kinda nice though.

It's a little mellow for the cat, but wow that interlude around 1:32 is amazing. There's so many strings resonating at so many different pitches, wtf this is amazing.
Shad I thought you told me there wasn't enough Boris for a whole alt? I'm glad you found one cat. Yeah, this is probably as peppy as it gets for them. This is some hype shoegazey noise. Especially the percussion.

This was my introduction to Iron Maiden (or maybe it was the Number of the Beast, I forget), but this is easily some of the best metal of the 80's. Those galloping bass lines are amazing, and fit their lyrical content so well! O-oooooooooo AAAAE-A-A-I-A-U- JO-oooooooooooo AAE-O-A-A-U-U-A- E-eee-ee-eee AAAAE-A-E-I-E-A- JO-ooo-oo-oo-oo EEEEO-A-AAA-AAAA.
I like this very much. That final minute or so is It's like fun fun fun, and then the band decided to fuck all and start shrieking and make it more fun, and it's amazing!!!

Never heard of this band. 2000's marmot is a failure. This song is so catchy and interesting and layered and... I don't understand the song title because it sounds like they're singing about dancing shoes, but the play on words (if there is any) went over my head.
I admire what's going on here, but I think it kinda falls flat in the end. I forget what that other ""sad dude with guitar plays for 17 minutes"" song is, but what I like about that one is that there's a little bit more structure and build to it, and this one feels more like he's fooling around, but didn't realize he was recording it. I did enjoy the Simon and Garfunkel reference hidden in the song.

I enjoyed this more than I expected for Steve Miller Band tbh. That said, I never cared for his voice, as the way he often sings felt fairly one-dimensional, with its tripped-out, space-cadet vibes. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for a little bit of grit, and he doesn't really have it.
Ahh Rammstein. I love a lot of their music, but unfortunately this one falls flat for me. Tindemann's vocals I usually like, but they feel empty in a way (and not in a catfitty way). (There's also a stray guitar screech at 1:28 that somehow made it through production lmao). I did look at the English translation of the song, and the mood does fit mildly better, as it's a love song, specifically the kind about ""It isn't worth it to be here if it's without you"". Ohne dich trasnlates to ""Without you"".

Never heard of this song/band, ""Black Country"", this is a new road for me. I love the idea for this song. Super echoey instrumentation to add some layers. It's a little too repetitive, I wish the song had some sort of progression.

This is a good example of ""Yes I do quite like some boomer music"".
At first I wasn't sure about the catfit, but it does kinda work. It doesn't quite capture the bleakness I was looking for, but the lyrics do, and there are moments (such as when the flute shines through) where it really does.
Very interesting song structure. I'm amazed this was released in 1969, it seems quite ahead of it's time, especially for western US rock. I particularly like the interludes after each refrain, they give this song a little bit of extra fun and intrigue.

I'm so glad that summer is setting in rn, because this bloograss hits so much better. I don't usually think of this genre of being wintery, because it's often lively and peppery. But it is about snowshoes, I can't argue that logic.
Hot take: Snowshoeing isn't all that fun, but it's way better than walking through snow without snowshoes.

The first obvious pander of marmotrus has arrived (ignoring the Rush subs). I love a lot of things about Porcupine Tree. Their ambience, their songwriting, their occasionally good lyrics, the period where they had one of the best drummers around (Gavin Harrison, who unfortunately joined after this album), and their constant line-straddling between psychedelic rock and prog metal. I like Steven Wilson's vocals even if they are one-dimensional, but they do fit the vibe here.
The background strings around 4:30 really hit nice. It's things like that the make this song a great catfit. The song itself is about drinking (particularly over-inebriation): a common winter activity. Overall, it's a song I like, but one that I only enjoy when I'm in the mood to listen to it.

Solid catfit. Vacant desert vibes, complete with an album cover featuring joshua trees, and little other signs of life. I wish the bass did a little bit more in this song, as it seems to play the same 4-note sequence over and over. The percussion is pretty hype though.
Nerd alert. Yes this song is about the Necromancer from Lord of the Rings lore (as mentioned in the Hobbit).
I was wondering what you'd sub for this cat, and this one totally makes sense. The opening sequence (and most of the song) is definitely a catfit. I don't believe they had keyboards yet, so they did all of this with guitars and percussions which is amazing. It's too bad they hadn't gotten better at writing multi-part songs, and figuring out how to write transitions, as that always seemed to be Rush's bane, despite how excellent they were at nearly other part of music-writing. (I was also reminded of how bad the spoken narrative parts of this song are )
That said! There's some really excellent parts. Particulaly the guitar around 6:30, and the full instrumental section at 7:00. I do think they captured the mood of the different parts of the song just fine (like in that part, it is very obviously a battle scene). Also the soft closing segment I always found kinda hype. One of the highlights of this album for me (and better than all the short songs at the beginning).

This should be marmotcore, I didn't enjoy it very much at first, but it did grow on me a little. It's aaaalmost just white noise, but thankfully there's still a little bit of clarity in the individual instruments to make it somewhat enjoyable. I can't deny the winternyness of it.

Beautifully haunting. This song has such a plodding hypnotic vibe. It's kind wild to hear the singer sing basically the same note for 90% of the song, and it just works.
I like this song. Stead plod. The vocals reeeeeally match the song well. I think the pace is a little too quick to be a ture catfit, but that didn't diminish my enjoyment of it.

The claps really make this feel like any season but winter tbh. I don't think it's actual clapping, but it sounds like clapping, but to me it symbolizes energy/movement/joy. The rest of the song does kinda fit.
Catfit aside, this is a cool song. Various cool synths. The vocals are fascinating. And the skipping clappy percussion does add to the song well imo.

The first minute of this song, I feel like the sounds clash a little bit. It's the accordion. I love that the cover of this album is literally a skeleton plaing accordion, but I'm not sure if I love the result. But it meshes soo much better after that. These are some of the more understandable black metal vocals I've ever heard.
Upon further listen, I think the disscordant accordion bumps the catfit up. The song is definitely already kinda depressing-sounding, but the way the accordion is smothered on the mix just flattens it down even more. It did grow on me a little.

When a friend (who I was dating at the time) first played Death Cab for me, she played their famous ""I'll Follow You into the Dark"". I told her I thought it was kinda mediocre. I still do lol. I dunno, I just never quite got it as a song.
What I did get was most of the rest of Death Cab's discography. They've got stellar songs throughout most of their albums, but this one did not sound familiar to me, so I appreciate you sending a deep cut. While I do love grit in songs, For some reason, DCFC's sleek production just works. Like really well. This song in particular, I like how the guitars reeeeeally take a back seat, and let the soft percussion take the front. I feel like that sort of mixing choice really makes this a catfit. It does sing about burning grapevines, which while that is more of a summer wildfire thing, it does imply a vast sprawling death of sorts, which is also the vibe I was looking for for this cat. I also wonder if ""Grapevine Fires"" has some deeper metaphor about connection/communication burning, as per the phrase, ""I heard it through the grapevine"" .
This is from the era of Camel I'm much less familar with (which is anything after Moonmadness). Andrew Lattimer hype!!! It's got slightly more of a space vibe than a winter vibe, but space is a cold, dead place so that doesn't even lose points. For 10 minutes of guitar noodling, this sounds remarkably coordinated and delightful.
This isn't the song I would introduce someone to Camel with, but I like it.
