Hello
Soo, you all can refer to me as Holden. It's my name in real life, and I think it might make it easier for me to catch when people are talking about me.
Also, I feel weird addressing others by their names when they don't know mine. So, hai.

Hi Holden! I am Jen IRL - but really - I've been bea for like ever so I'm cool with both names. I'm not used to being called Jen anywhere online but facebook though so don't be suprised if I miss it if you call me jen.

Re: Hello
It seems like the men on this site go by their IRL names often while the women go by their usernames.
Heck, I even refer to juliets (lowercase and all) by that name rather than the more apt Juliet.

Re: Hello
Nice to meet you officially, Holden. (Awesome name btw ) I am Mandi.
I don't mind being called either. I've ALWAYS used fingersplints. It's a username even my family associates with me.
juliets is a private lady I know a lot of people by their first names but I've learned to try and avoid it when possible and especially in games. A good example is the other day I was telling some mafia related story to my husband and I refer to SVS by her first name, but I pretty much will always call her SVS on forums. I think the only exception to my rule is Rox, who I tried to call Tricks on ksite but probably always called her Rox anywaysMetalmarsh89 wrote:It seems like the men on this site go by their IRL names often while the women go by their usernames.

Re: Hello
Hello Jeremiah I am Sherry.
Like bea, I came from a culture that kept rl private, so we never used real names. Like Bea, when I discuss her with someone else, even someone who also knows her in reality, like Roxy, I tend to call her Bea. She is Bea in my phone contacts. So the real names thing that we got from PA was kind of disconcerting for me at first, but i am getting used to it. I still prefer to used screennames or nicks derived thereof in game thread so as not to confuse the nubs.
My husbands name was Gerard, but everyone called him "Jer" as well, so i have a sweet spot for that name
And Holden, regarding the illegal Holy Grail, you are from the PacNW~ bea & I hosted a Stoners Mafia years ago, and are starting to gear up to make a sequel. Would this be a theme that interests you?

Re: Hello
I'm interested in Stoners 2! My husband might like the theme so I will try and talk him into a game when the time comes but I think he is done for good.
Come to think of it, I believe I call Bea "Bea" usually as well, but that could be also because one of my siblings name is Jen as well so it's more confusing. (Mongoose - another of my sisters is Alison with one l too! but she is named after my aunt) Chris will be here this weekend so I'll have to pay attention to what I call everyone since I am curious now

I also have an idea for a game, but I will have to draw it up more before I submit it. I think it will be dandy, at least for those who know about the theme.

And Holden, there are two threads, we had to do a reset, there was an info snafu with the first one.
http://www.dinasaurhedcult.com/forums/s ... ners-Mafia is the first
http://www.dinasaurhedcult.com/forums/s ... abula-Rasa is the reset. That game is 4 years old next month, so the roles are a bit outdated, and it was the first game hasted for either of us. We relied too much on the search mechanic for the civs, and we never should have merged the baddies when the civs failed to find each other. I learned alot about balance that game.
Now I am gonna have to go reread it.
Diggler is BDH, Mandy is Sorsha, Missy is Kate. Everyone else is either the same as here, Like Lorab & Splints, or they don't play anymore.

@ made - one of my bestest buddies from college is named Jeremiah. We called him Jer all the time. Are you very tall and very handsome in a nerdy sort of way? You wouldn't by chance happen to be located in the Cleveland area would you? If you tell me how much you love Thursday's and 80's/90's New Wave/Techno music I may have a heart attack!

Re: Hello
Hello, everyone! Wow, what a simple yet good idea for a thread, it's good to know the RL monikers behind the adopted screennames!
For those who don't already know, I'm Alex. Or MP. Or Sockface. Or some variation of those. I'm not too particular! My first major internet forum was indeed ProgArchives (though I do have a history of internet forums before that, but it's scattered, and I was young, so :P) because I'm an absolute music lover. I found out about mafia when I became obsessed with LOST and signed up at Lostpedia to discuss the last season with other LOST fans, and quickly became addicted completely. After a few months, I came to the idea to introduce the game to PA because, to my knowledge, no one there had played before, and I thought many of the JFF and Shred regulars would enjoy it too. It also gave me a chance to reconnect with the crowd after falling out of PA activity a bit. I hosted two games over there, then mafia kind of died out, because no one else was willing to pick up the ball, and that forum was the worst place to host a mafia game in terms of site capabilities (you could only PM one person at a time, there were limits on number of PMs per hour, polls were difficult and could only be created in a new thread, and didn't track who voted what, etc.).
Eventually, I had the idea to start this site because I wanted a place where people from many different facets of my life (the PA crowd, the LP crowd, people I knew from college, from high school, from work, etc. etc.) and from the lives of everyone else involved by tangent, could enjoy spending time together playing mafia! And by that time mafia had started to decline and many of the "old-timers" were not interested in playing anymore, so I was hoping to revive interest. And ta-da! That's part of what happened and why this site exists and stuff. Interesting, right? It's really because I think mafia is pretty much one of the best games and best forms of social interaction ever, and by getting to know other people through it, my life has changed dramatically (for the better), most noticeably in the fact that I would not have likely met my fiance if it were not for it. I know others in this community could say something similar -- that they really value the community that has been built around playing mafia and it's blossomed into many very great and close friendships. It's really amazing to me, and it's something I put high value in, and I love getting to play with people I know well and just as much getting to know new people I don't know at all yet!
To address some items that others have said in this thread:
- Yes, Devin signed up for my second game at PA, but he was only a member of PA for that game (because I had him sign up to the site specifically to play the mafia game), so I don't really consider him a PA member. I know him from college when we both took an Intro to Accounting class together.
- I can confirm that over at PA, it was normal for us to refer to each other by first name, whereas at LP, the general community referred to each other by screenname. The only reason it might seem like men are referred to by first name more frequently is due to the fact that PA was/is made up of 99.99% male and 00.01% female members. :P
- I think a Stoners 2 game would be a capital idea!

Whereas I'm an extremely private person, which you know if you've added me on facebook (mine is basically posts about yoga and cat photos), I weirdly don't mind whether you call me Alison, Mongoose, Alisonshine etc. (or even Scoop Chang -- you'll have to ask my LoBro).
That's cool, splints! thanks for sharing that. One L solidarity!

You wouldn't by chance happen to be located in the Cleveland area would you? If you tell me how much you love Thursday's and 80's/90's New Wave/Techno music I may have a heart attack!

Re: Hello
OK, well... since everybody seems to be doing it. My name is Enrique (who woulda known?), but I've been known by a few other names before. I joined Lostpedia as Eko way way back in 2007, I think before I had even turned 12. Summer before I started middle school, how crazy is that? This community has been a part of my life through all of my teenage years. I haven't been active in any of the forums for a few years; iirc, the only games I've played since 2012 are Lost in Rev (where I got NKd early on) and Recruitment 3, where I had to sub out after a couple days unfortunately after my laptop's screen broke But this whole time I've been on the IRC, so I never felt disconnected, either. I've talked to some of you most days since like 2011, so I think I'm good
I remember Ikkl Genius fondly for other things he brought to the table on Lostpedia (Lost the Alternate Story, participating in The Whispers RPG, etc.), but when he first introduced Mafia to the forums it just looked too complicated and I didn't wanna bother. Oh boy. It took me until Mike's "Ten Little Indians" (Mafia the Thirteenth) to sign up for a game, and this was still when the idea of themed games was being introduced. I wish I could check LP for this, but it was played concurrently with Frex's Star Wars and right before Trev's Simpsons Mafia?
I was Mafia in my first game. If I'm not mistaken, my teammates were LoRab, Diamond Dog and Ceb18. We were all making it until the very end when we started getting picked out one by one. I think this was one of the first games with two different Mafia teams, too, so the competition was a lot of fun. We lost, but whatever, there's no record of that since Lostpedia got wiped a few days ago
To be honest, I hadn't thought much about coming back to Mafia. I never played much outside of LP and TP, so with those sites gone, it just seemed like a chore to have to sign up to a new one and have to meet a bunch of new people, etc. This summer I watched the first 3 seasons of Misfits and got nutelLA really into the show, so she was ADAMANT that I sign up for Misfits Mafia. I said naaah not feelin it, but Dana and Jer (also from IRC) were intrigued so I explained the site to them and they decided to sign up. I followed Misfits Mafia somewhat closely, and even though I wasn't playing, it was still a lot of fun to see my new and old friends in action together. Whenever Dana messaged me telling me how hard of a time she was having not knowing who to trust, I was DYING to get back into playing. I even read up on some old games, and realized that: 1) I needed to bring Last Man Standing back, and 2) Indy roles are always the most fun.
So here I am now. A few days into Monty Python and the Holy Grail, it's been ridiculous amounts of fun. I'm a sophomore (Multicultural relations / Anthropology major) in college now, studying in Universidad de las Américas Puebla (did I mention I'm Mexican? Oh well, it's not too late) which can be VERY demanding. Mafia adds to the stress somedays, but I also love being back with you guys and being allowed to blow off some steam on this thing.
You might also know me as dl15 (my original handle on Piano), Enrico (HV), Rico Suave (HV derived nickname), etc. I know there was some confusion when I first signed up, but I think most of you have recognized me by now. Glad to be here! You guys are the best.

Re: Hello
It is seriously awesome to have you back, Enrique (I was so used to Eko, but now I'm used to Enrique). You, Dom, SoFi, and LA were the first people I really started talking to when I joined LP, good times.
I can't wait to play Last Man Standing since I never got the chance to play either of the first two.
I was mafia my first game too... in fact, I was mafia like 8 out of my first 10 games. :P

Re: Hello
Oh, man, you should definitely get on IRC more. Emma is usually on all the time during holidays, not so much during the schoolyear. Lizzie is on at least for a few hours pretty much every day. I keep telling Dom to get on, but the idea just seems too complicated for him

Re: Hello
That'd be great. With PhD, I doubt I'd have much time, but it'd be nice to pop on occasionally, for sure. I did go through a spell where I would get onto IRC and talk to people in the RM channel, mainly JC, leggy, reywaS, DP, etc., which was definitely fun. Then my laptop died and I lost the IRC software and I got busier.Enrique wrote:Oh, man, you should definitely get on IRC more. Re: Hello
Huh, really, when was this? I've been on #revmafia pretty consistently for a few years an I don't really remember you being there a lot. Maybe this April-July while my laptop was broken? Or maybe I take more breaks than I give myself credit for. But at least I'm there now

Re: Hello
Shoot, I don't remember... it wasn't for too long of a period of time, but off and on for a few months. Must have been some point in '13 because I remember it was when I was looking into PhD programs. I'll have to retrieve another IRC client so I can at least pop on from time to time. I've been meaning to, but life's been plenty busy, lol.

Re: Hello
Wow, Enrique, college sophomore? I remember when you and Dom & SoFi were in that teen thread at LP. And if any of you wandered into the DT, we threw you out, lol. Good Times

He was like half a year younger than me, so I guess he's in college now? Weird. Hadn't really thought about it. I probably still have him on Facebook, somewhere.
